Chased by Fred the stalking horse Mike goes for blood in Michigan

Fred Thompson is a marginal candidate on the way out. If he finishes in double digits in South Carolina it’ll be amazing.

So, why did he beat upon Mike Huckabee last night. It’s stalking horse politics. He is doing McCain’s dirty work. McCain benefits from Mikes beating upon and Fred Doesn’t care. He just needs a nap. Or a good job in the White House if Mac becomes POTUS. He’s doomed and has nothing to lose.

Meanwhile, Mike has decided to go for blood in Michigan. This should all but put Romney to bed or at least show him the way to the chamber.

Rudy is smiling all the way to the Graveyard. His future in Florida is more akin to the Shuffleboard court than appointing anyone to the supreme court.

So, it’s really only Mike and Mac. Good guys. I’m just waiting for the implosion. The ultimate Bad Mac Attack. That’s something John never fails to deliver. When he does, fire up the Sunbeam.

Who will that leave standing? HMMMM.

Of course Justin may be right. It may come to a brokered convention. That’ll be interesting and entertaining.

Mike is playing the political game precisely right. And it’s frustrating the heck out of all the institutional conservatives. David Limbaugh correctly identifies Mike as more Reagensque than he wishes Mike was. Certainly more like GWB than anyone wishes he was.

UPDATE: The long knives are out for McCain. Mark Levin lists all the reasons why everyone would vote for Romney or Fred. The politics of who and what I'm against and not what I'm for. This is a loser strategy. Keep it up and prepare to die (Politically).

And it will be a battle Huckabee cannot win because Thompson’s criticism last night that won him the debate was exactly and precisely on target.

Even if huckabee picks up roughly 1/3 of the delegates that are up for grabs in each stop, that still leaves him far short of the 1191 needed to get the nomination.  So what that means is that at least several hundred delegates have to switch over to support a guy that every other candidate is basically calling a Democrat.

And that’s where Fred comes in:

1. Huckabee would probably have the most delegates is we go into a broker convention.

2. McCain will be a close second, perhaps about the same.

3. Thompson will have enough to be either the fourth or fifth in the line.

4. Thompson gives his delegates to his old time buddy that used to ride with him on his pick up truck back when he was running for the Senate ..and who seem to have convince him to vote for MacCain-Feindgold. ..perhaps for the VP spot? ..and/or Some form of a tacit gentlement’s agreement McCain would probably only serve on term and endorse Fred as his sucessor? ..a Southerner/Western ticket will be hard for the Dems to stop. Some for of gentlement’s agreement McCain would probably only serve on term and endorse Fred as his sucessor?

5Thompson endorsment of a McCain for president with himself probably as the VP creates so much momentum that if McCain needs three or four more delegates to get to the magic number some super delegates switch who they vote for. ..or at least one of the other candidates throws in the towel and tell their delegates to vote for who ever the Heck they want.

Huckabee delenda est.

The Huck has to either win out right, or come with a comandding lead and close to the magic number, or else he won’t be the nominee.

McCain get the nomination if at the end of the primaries he’s close behind Huck in the delegate count, or goes into a brokered convention with the most delegates.

Gene is a marginal commentator on his way out. See? You just have to say it to make it so!
Not!

Gene,

I respectfully disagree.  It’s not just that Fred has been a lazy campaigner.  We are all familiar enough with the Legacy Media to know their tactics.  If they ignore you—give you zero press coverage—you don’t exist.  Out of sight, out of mind. How many are even aware that Duncan Hunter was even a candidate?

To get some press, even bad press, Fred needs to quit discussing things reasonably and more to the point, quietly.  To vote for him, the electorate needs to know he even exists.

What better way to gain voter awareness than to juxtapose his own track record against his rivals?  The Huckster and the recently-conservative Romney are Leftists that are just giving the Conservative line to get elected.  McCain and Giuliani might be Republicans, but they are in no way Conservatives.

Many of the religious types get the impression that if the Huckster is religious, he must be Conservative—as Mike Myers might say “shha-ahhh! And monkeys might fly out my butt!” The guy loves taxes and illegal aliens.  Fred will do well to bring those qualities out to the bright light of day.

...for great justice
