Sorry to see something like this going on more and more. I know my next statement in using a broad brush to explain the behavior but I think it has some truth to it. The College professors of this time are members of the Baby Boom generation and they beleive they changed the world for the better by their protests of the 60’s when they were in their teens and early twenties. I am still waiting to see if they improved the Country or not. My opionon is they had a good idea but lost control of their objective and fell in love with their perceived image of themselves as saviors of the world. Most of those protest in the 60’s were not debates. They did not want to debate the subject. They just did not want to go to Viet Nam or serve in the Military. Now some of them teach and still think of themselves as saviours. So now they back protests of shouting and pulling fire alarms. To block speech they do not want to hear. Even though during the 60’s they did their protest as a way to express their free speech. The fine art of discussing a subject is no longer tolerated on a lot of Universtiy Campuses. Shout, yell and be childish is now the norm. This is the sorry state of our Universities now and I can only hope that sometime in the future it changes. Being cynical I do not have high hopes at this time. My 2 cents for what its worth.

rich: As a Conservative and a Boomer, I can tell you that the antiwar types were in a minority then; they just shouted a lot louder than the rest of us who were getting on with our lives.  Now, the MSM has elevated those crazies into archetypes of my generation, and that is a lie.  They were fringies then, and they are fringies now, with a big megaphone with MSM written on the side.  Do not be deceived.  The antiwar crazies did not benefit our society at all; just the opposite.  The majority of the Boomers have benefited society greatly, though, while making the normal amount of mistakes.  The WWII generation rescued us from the totalitarianism that the antiwar fringies want us to surrender to, but the rest of us kept building America into what it is today.

Having been involved in the Conservative Youth Movement with the College Republicans and Leadership Institute, I will tell you that 96% of college students dont give a hoot about politics, 3% are active liberals and 1% are active conservatives.

Since 90% of professors are liberal themselves (yes, there are a few conservative profs out there) those few students looking for a political direction tend to gravitate towards the brainwashing they recieve from those professors

Half of conservative students are not that because they understand what conservatism is, at first.  Rather they are conservative as a form of rebellion against the establishment of the college.  The rest tend to be long time conservative/libertarian thinkers.
