Campus Editor Compares US Marines to Paris Hilton
For a little background on this story, The Appalachian is the student-run newspaper for Appalachian State University, which runs on a biweekly schedule here. A good majority of students, faculty, and staff here read it and use it as one of their primary sources of information throughout the week.
One of the Associate Editors for the paper wrote an opinion column which she starts off by comparing Paris Hilton to United States Marines.
It turns out Paris Hilton and a group of U.S. Marines have more in common than you might think.
On Nov. 19, 2005, a group of U.S. Marines killed 24 unarmed men, women and children in Haditha, Iraq.
The massacre is believed to have been an act of retaliation following the killing of Lance Corporal Miguel Terrazas.
Although the incident occurred over two years ago, the soldiers and officers involved in the killings will finally face court appearances this spring.
Similar to the minor charges leveled against Hilton after violating probation in June 2007, those involved in the Haditha case have experienced a decrease in possible punishment.
The very fact that she compares members of our armed services to a wretch like Paris Hilton is incredulous. I can’t believe the gall it takes to slander US Marines. Her line of reasoning follows that “Bush lied, people died” mentality, and so she like other liberals latched onto this story lockstep with John Murtha.
Nevermind that the “Haditha Marines” were set up by Al-Qaeda, who used innocent people as human shields to create this kind of tragedy.
It amazes me that liberals can claim to support the soldiers, but they can turn around and stab them in the back with the same breath of air.
Our military should view these incidents as real problems and look for ways to prevent them in the future.
Perhaps these horrific acts could be prevented if the U.S. Military offered additional mental, emotional and physical assistance to its employees?
Regardless, it is our job as U.S. citizens to hold the military responsible for its endeavors – no matter how far away they occur.
The problem for her is that the military does treat these as serious problems, and they do try and get to the bottom of the matter as quickly as possible. But to liberals like Ms. Tolleson, the Marines are already guilty of war crimes for fighting this war.
They don’t realize that we are not fighting an enemy you can beat with an air war or a 100 hour war. These are scared little cockroaches who will use anything they can to promote their fundamentalist agenda of cleansing the world of Western decadence. They will not stop until we submit or die. Iraq may not have been a hotbed for terrorism at first, but it sure is now. Or was anyway. Then we started succeeding and winning, which was too much for Dingy Harry.
