Burglar foiled after family thumped him with a brolly - and SAT on him until police arrived
By Daily Mail Reporter
A serial thief with 143 previous convictions hit rock bottom when a family whose house he had broken into sat on him until police arrived.
Homeless drug addict Kevin Waddington disturbed mother Julie Broadway as he broke into her semi-detached home.Rather than call the police, Mrs Broadway chased the would-be thief down. Her husband, Glenn, hauled Waddington back into the house as he tried to escape through a window - then sat on him.
And when the robber made a grab for a knife, the Broadway’s 16-year-old daughter Megan thumped him with a brolly.
‘I am just glad he picked the right house that night,’ said gym owner Julie, 43.
‘The cheek of scum like that who just think they have the right to go into someone else’s house to take bits and pieces they want to sell. I hope this has put him off doing something like this again.’
Mrs Broadway thought cats were to blame when she was woken at 2am in her home.
But then she saw a ray of light go past her bedroom and went after the burglar.
‘I was just angry. There was someone in my house that hadn’t been invited,’ she said.
Waddington seemed to think she was not a threat because she was a woman - then Mrs Waddington was was joined by her 19-stone, 6ft 4ins ex-forestry-worker husband.
‘The look on his face when he spotted Glen was ‘****’,’ she said.
The burglar pushed her out of the way and tried to climb out of a window at their home in York, but Mr Broadway pulled him back by the legs and sat on him.
Can you imagine the humiliation of the burglar in Jail? “How were you caught mate?” Bruno asks him. “Well,” he replies, “the man sat on me and the daughter threatened me with an umbrella!” This guy is not going to be considered a tough guy in stir!
