Boehner Shoots the Messenger

So now the new House minority leader, Mr Boehner, refuses to hear the truth about the 2006 election and banned the predictor of the election outcome from the recent republican retreat.

Frank Luntz, well-known republican pollster was conspicuously absent from the recent republican tete-a-tete.  His crime du jour:  predicting the 2006 republican election disaster.

Which is actually good news for the democrats.  The talented Mr Luntz has recently penned a new tome entitled, “Words that Work”.  I am looking forward to reading it next week.

Robert Novak’s recent column decries the casting out of Luntz. According to Novak: “The question is whether the party will heed warnings or follow the route of its leaders, who want to mainly trash Nancy Pelosi.

I think the republicans ignore Luntz at their peril.

Whoa now, Puzzled...the “truth” of the last election you and the rest of the libs have been pushing is that it was a referendum on Iraq.  Luntz is of the opinion that the Republicans lost because of runaway federal spending and an abandonment of the reform principles that swept them into power in 1994.

I agree with you that it’s stupid (though not surprising) that Boehner banned Luntz, but it’s amusing that you’d side with Luntz given that his (accurate, in my humble estimation) view of the Republican loss is so contrary to your own.

Rob, I think if you remember what I wrote, I said the Iraq war the major reason, not the only reason. You on the other hand totally relied on the spend and spend republicans.  I’ve seen Luntz on a number of occasions with Geoff Hart, a democratic pollster. They are very interesting together.

Puzzle, you and your fellow libs have been calling the last election a “referendum on Iraq.” That clearly isn’t so, as Luntz points out.

Go ahead and admit you’re wrong.  It’s ok.

Puzzle,

First, when referring to Republicans (or Democrats), or members of either party, it is proper to use a capital “R” (or “D").  Most Republicans are republicans, but you’ll have an awfully difficult time convincing anyone with a modest amount of sense that there are many Democrats who are democrats.

Second, since you are apparently now willing to acknowledge (at least somewhat) that Republican spending was partly responsible for the Democrats’ ‘06 mid-term election success, perhaps you’d be willing to expand on that theme and explain which specific GOP appropriations you Democrats would have cut instead?  (Careful… it’s a trick question!)

Or republicans, for that matter.

On a totally unrelated note, Puzzle, here’s a few HTML tags you can use to format future posts so that you don’t have to just past raw URL’s in the post (it looks ugly):

To do a link:

Bold:

Italics:

If you need any other help, let me know.

No problem.  It’s not that difficult once you get the hang of it.
