Bathed Barack Obama will Run -and- Is Michelle Obama Racially Biased and Articulate?

Bathed Barack Obama will Run in ‘08

Springfield, IL:  February 10, 2007 - Senator Barack Obama (D-IL), 45, is running for President of the United States, a freshly bathed Barack announced today in an historic moment set in the Land of Lincoln ’in the shadow’ of the old State Capital building in Springfield, Illinois.  In the state Obama has represented as Senator for the past two years, and the state he has made his home, residing there these past 20 years, he currently has a home on the south side of Chicago.  He was introduced by Dick Durbin (D-IL).  With his wife and two young daughters by his side, they soaked up the early applause prior to his making the historic announcement of the first articulate, clean, black man to seek the office of the Presidency.

The speech was cold and politically motivated, paling in comparison to the 2004 Democratic National Convention debut speech.  Unlike 2004, today’s speech did not appear to be a faith based one, was this non-inclusion decision based on fear?  He did mention that he began his career in Illinois making $13,000 per year with a job as a community organizer, which somehow ’strengthened his Christian faith’.  What, only poor people have faith?  Nor was there any mention of his family background, his childhood in Hawaii and Indonesia or that he would make history if elected president.  Inconvenient, at least for today’s historic moment, Global Warming be darned; the temperatures hovered in the teens, but Barack said he was fired up.  Promising to keep the promises of his particular 10 point plan, unlike those who came before him or those who will compete with him as they each run around the country laying out their own 10 point plans.  Unfortunately, Obama seems to be transforming himself into a good old-fashioned politician.  Shouting out slogans like ‘it’s not about me, it’s about us’ - ‘build a better union’ - ‘I have a plan to end the war by March of 2008′ - ‘the time is now’ - ‘march with you, work with you, we can finish the work that needs to be done’.  Worn out phrases and rhetoric that will still no doubt touch the heart of Democrats everywhere, at home and around the world.

The mainstream news media is calling this an historic moment, but is it really?  Other black individuals have run for President - Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson - to name two.  So why is this an historic moment?  Probably because Joe Biden was right.  Barack Obama is the first clean, articulate, black man to make a serious run for the Presidency.  Those are the facts.  If there have been others, they have not resonated with the American people; so they simply do not exist in a political sense.

Is Michelle Obama Racially Biased and Articulate?

Michelle Obama, wife of Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, will be appearing with her husband in a 60 minutes interview that will air on Sunday, February 11, 2007. CBS News features several excerpts from the interview online at CBSnews.com.

In an excerpt entitled ‘Michelle Obama on Security’ Michelle Obama is asked about whether she fears for her husband’s life as a black candidate.  It is obvious that Michelle is concerned about her husband’s safety as a Presidential candidate, however, she believes he is just as likely to be a target of assassination as any ‘black man’, whether he be a political powerhouse on his way to the White House, or just an average Barack on his way to the gas station. She is speaking from her own perspective, but her views do not reflect the reality of minorities in politics.

When was the last time we heard of a black politician being shot at? If such numbers do exist, they probably compare with the number of white or other races of politicos who have been shot at. There’s probably an attempt, or at least an evil thought of an attempt, on President George W. Bush’s life everyday of the year - if they could, they would.  So her fears appear to be unwarranted - there is nothing to fear but fear itself, as they say.  We must give her credit for trying to face her fears, but the question remains, is her fear based on reality or perception.  Is Michelle Obama racially biased towards other races?  If so, this simply will not do.

The Obama campaign managers should be concerned about Michelle Obama’s reply, as it is not likely to go over real well.  Will people understand her concern, does her response divide or bring people together?  Does she view the world through racially biased lenses?  Does it tell people of other races that they are different, that they do not have the concerns that black people running for political office have?  Has the ‘we are special’ mentality created by the civil rights movement gone out of style?  Is it time for this movement to move on?  Barack Obama’s mixed race has proven to be a unifier, will racial bias cause division?  Time will tell.

Hi, I’m Sheila and I write for the Daily News Rush.  This article was also posted on Newsvine, but was censored and taken down, not by Newsvine but by a few malicious users who reported it as inflammatory.  Freedom of speech applies only to liberals it seems.  I was just curious to see how it does here.

Comments

I watched this interview. One of the things I found enlightening was her comment, when asked about the possibility of violence toward him, was that “As a black man Barack could get shot going to a gas station.” Or words to that effect.

What did she mean by that? That kind of open ended comment made it sound like there are roving gangs of white men just waiting around for a black man to shoot. How is this any less offensive than last week’s “articulate” remark?

I, being white, am also pretty worked up about these black people getting involved in politics. I mean they don’t even have souls right?

/sarcasm

I think her comment was intended to mean anyone can have their life put at risk in any activity - seems obvious to me. The question was racially charged - hence the inclusion of ‘black man’ in the answer. Maybe your qualms are with 60 minutes.

what the f*ck about him being bathed?

A reference to the Biden quote, no doubt!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

I mean no offense to Mrs. Michelle Obama, but if I recall correctly, the last infamous spree of indiscriminate shootings at gas stations and such were carried out by a black man (Lee Malvo) and his young sidekick John Mohammed), both of whom had some poorly delineated historical ties to the Muslim faith.

Mrs. Obama would seem to be no more ready for national prime time than is her husband.  I repeat again, if Barack Obama was not an African-American no one would be taking him seriously at all.

Tis true.  His speech in 2004 was mesmerizing, but a speech does not a president make.  We will all be accused of being racist if he’s not elected, you know that, don’t you?  Just kidding, sorta.

I hate to have to burst her nationally striving bubble, anyone could be shot going to a gas station on the southside of Chi-town. Listening to these people speak evokes images of oh, so superior people telling all us white trash to mind our manners. Nanny and Michelle will get along swimmingly.

Too true! Back in the day, Mario Cuomo gave a real stemwinder of a speech at the DNC. His political career went the way of the Dixie Chicks.
Bill Clinton, the same year, gave a loooooong boooooring speech that almost got him booed out of the hall at the DNC. You remember him? He went on to stain the infamous blue dress. So ya never know!

I hope Barack Obama wins the presidency but it is highly unlikely. It is also unlikely Hillary will win. Both of these candidates will have to face Mitch Romney as the Republican presidential nominee and he looks a little too Presidential. Tall, slim, rich and white. He is just the kind of man white folks take a glance at then rush down to vote for him regardless of if he has substance or not.

Also, I believe a lot of whites are saying they will vote for Obama but let’s face it. What a person says and what they do are two different things.
