Army Lt Ehren Watada, off to Jail for Refusing to Fight

As A Soldier you can’t pick your battles.

Lt Watada, you signed on the dotted line and you do not have the right to pick which war you want to fight in or what battle you will fight in.

You are a coward and should be put behind bars for a lot longer than 4 years.

I am sure this moron will be the poster boy for the Hollywood left and the anti-American MSM.

So...it’s all Bush’s fault?  He was tricked into joining the military?

Sure.  Why not.  Let’s let every soldier get out of obeying an order or command that they don’t like or that they think is a mistake.

What’s the worst that could happen?

What a load of shit. This is an example of our college education in America. That booboo needs to sue whatever school he graduated from. They ripped him off.

I’m sure he’ll be very popular in prison.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Oh, yea. There are quite a few troops in stockade for beating the crap out of morons like him. And the guards, many of whom are combat vets, are going to make his life hell. Strictly within the bounds of regulations to be certain, but hell on Earth all the same. What a dumbass.

I wish he supported the truth as strong as he supports his misguided opinions.

The guy is a fool who joined up to fight in the war and only then decided that it was “illegal”. Yeah,..right. And I was born yesterday. This thinly veiled pathetic protest won’t get him or his cause very far. The people who are likely to be taking his side are already by his side. He isn’t going to win over new friends or allies to his beliefs with this action.

What a waste. The feds better charge him for the bill of training him and jailing him. We’ll never be able to get that lost time back though. Better charge him for that as well.

I would love to be a guard in his block. Prisoner attention. I am a 1st LT, you were son your now a crimimal convict.

I think they should start lining up these deserters like they did during other wars and shooting them. The ones that went to Canada, they should be incarcerated for life. I don’t care what the Hollywood liberals say these people are yellow. If you don’t want to go to war don’t sign up for the military.

The last time the US shot a deserter was at the end of the second World War. Pvt Slovick was the only deserter shot since the Civil War. None since.

If Watada wanted to take the easy way out he would report for duty or disappear. He chose the hard way.

If anyone remembers a little known war, often called WWII, and that SS prison guards of the concentration camps were summarily executed. But they were simply following orders. We expect the baddies to not follow orders (Bush said before the Iraq War “It’ll be no excuse to say `I was just following orders’"), but expect blind obedience from our own soldiers. Hypocrisy?

You lefties are unbelievable.

Comparing our soldiers who are establishing freedom in the middle east with Nazi concentration camp guards.

The hate of the left is boundless.

Whistler: What are you on about. What or whom do I hate?

Thanks to Iraq debacle, the people of countries with large oil reserves (Iran and Venezuela for example) will now be fearing `freedom’ (which seems to mean death?).

Actually, AV’s comment makes some sense if appropriately modified:

the dictators of countries with large oil reserves (Iran and Venezuela for example) will now be fearing `freedom

EHREN WATADA IS A MAN WITH NO HONOR, A COWARD, A SOLDIER WHO SWORN LOYALTY TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO THE SOLDIERS THAT ARE UNDER HIS LEADERSHIP AND BAILED OUT ON THEM. DON’T BLAME IT ON THE PRESIDENT OR THE MILITARY!  YOU VOLUNTEERED AND JOINED THE MILITARY....WHY?  HIDDEN AGENDA?  IT DOES NOT MATTER, THE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS SURFACE.  YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO YOUR OPINION AND IF YOU THINK THIS WAR IS IS ILLEGAL THAT IS YOUR OPINION, AND YOU WILL USE THAT ANGLE TO GET OUT OF YOUR OBLIGATIONS.  BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, 2+2 WILLALWAYS BE 4, BLUE WILL ALWAYS BE BLUE, AND EHREN WILL ALWAYS BE A CHICKEN ASS COWARD IN UNIFORM AND OUT OF UNIFORM.....

samuel on March 23, 2007 at 01:51 pm

samuel, on the whole we at SA agree with you. Only problem? Turn off the capslock. Your point is much better made when properly written. And yes, it is my considered opinion that Watada became an Officer for the sole purpose of doing exactly what he has done. That charge is the one I believe he should be facing.

AV,

Hypocrisy?  Hardly!  Part of the reason for winning a war, any war, is so that your side gets to make the rules afterward… a point you might try to keep in mind the next time you are tempted to disparage the war against global Islamist terrorist.  The very first rule in dealing with any sort of threat, is to take the threat seriously.

One other small point, if I may… if Lt. Watada had been a Nazi officer in WWII, he would have been shot on the spot for disobeying a direct order.  With no interviews, no press conferences, and no ACLU attorneys to his rescue.

2H9,

I fully agree.  Watada’s whole purpose was to make a political statement.

And why not?  John Kerry got his start in politics in much the same manner.

Anarchist Vegetarian can you tell me where I can go that Freedon is free and never was paid for with blood?  I am from a little town in East Germany-Zittau. My father was Czech and mother German.  I have lived the last 2 years of my 67 years here in America. I am so grateful to have this opportunity to live in a society that is so free they can speak bad about their country and all those who try to keep it free.  Americans are to spoiled and they take for granted what America offers everyday.  It seems to me that the people that speaks the worse about America is mostly Americans, but just like living in the communist block I have learned that it is just a few people that speak bad but the media blows it up.  Bush is not perfect but he is not a Brezhnev.  It’s funny how your media misses the millions of us who remember all the wonderful things America has done for the world, but they always seem to find the few who has bad things to say and show it on television and the papers over and over.  In the communist rule we call this propaganda, in America they call it freedom of speech.  Take it from someone who really knows the difference between a great country and a bad country.  I love America and for all those who are confused about bad goverments, and think this country is bad and it’s leaders are terrible...trying your luck somewhere else in this big planet of ours, remember you have Freedom, use it and get yourself out of America....you have the Freedom to move I did it and it allowed me to come and live in the greatest country in the world.....

ZDENKA on March 23, 2007 at 02:44 pm

Zdenka, thanks for the glowing praise of my home land. My apologies that you and all other German citizens east of the line had to live under communism for so long. And damn glad you have been able to come to America.

I have seen life and governance in several countries and am in complete agreement. I see people such as Watada as woefully misled or willfully ignorant of reality.

Where in the States have you been living? Have you gotten to travel and see much beyond the classic tourist package sights?

I am living in Federal Way Washington with my son and his family.  He became a citizen June of 2000 and joined the military I don’t really know to much of what he does, but he use to wear a tan beret in pictures during the war then he switch to green one, I think the tan one match the uniform better but he has no choice in the matter. I want you to know he joined with his own free will (not like his father who had no choice,) December 13, 2001 knowing the chances of going to war legally or illegal was most certain.  He is still serving, he can’t really tell me where he is when he writes, but he always say to don’t worry and if anything happens no matter how people twist it the truth is, freedom is an on going process.  I am a retired nurse, I still volunteer down at Madigan Army Hospital. And I love America.

Nice area. I never got to Ft Lewis, did spend some time at Yakima FR. Hope you get to visit Yosemite National Park and if you get a chance to come east I hope you visit Pennsylvania.

And please be sure to tell your son and his wife that we appreciate their sacrifice for America.
