Another Episode In The Benefits of National Health Care

This time the story is based on the national health dental care in the UK.  From the Daily Mail:

A grandmother performed her own tooth extractions in despair after being turned away by 12 dentists.

Elizabeth Green, 76, was in agony with two front teeth and after a fruitless search for an NHS practitioner, resorted to DIY.

Apparently this is a frequent occurence

Her case is the latest of many to highlight the dwindling availability of NHS dental treatment.

But you can get private sector dental care if you can afford it.

Mrs Green, a former chef, said it was made plain to her that if she could pay for treatment she would have been welcomed.

“I feel so angry,” she said. “I’ve worked all my life and paid taxes and then when I need help I can’t get it.”

Isn’t that wonderful!!  One has to support a system that DOES NOT provide the service that it has promised and still seek alternate measures.  That sort of describes the government school systems in this country, doesn’t it?  What we don’t need is another government system like national health that will be just as ineffective.

And it’s not just the Dept.of Education, the failure and inefficiency of government at all levels drives up the cost and does little to alleviate deficiencies.

Those who recieve entitlements and those that dole them out perpetuate this problem.

Anyone who has ever dealt with the VA can tell you how absolutely screwed anything run by any government is.

2Hotel9.  I worked for the VET Center and did outreach for returning combat veterans.  We had no trouble signing up every person for Health care (VHA) in about one week.  I get my annual preventive screening as well as flu shots annually for no charge.  They get my blood in about 5-7 minutes and I am called for the Dr. on time or even early!
However, landownSally is correct.  In countries where the entire population is mandated to take universal health care, it has failed miserably.  We do not need to go down that road.

Thats all well and good, you got a shop being run right, an anomaly. I will not, repeat NOT EVER, have dealings with the VA again. Period. And to allow the same incompetent morons who run any other government program to get their slimy hands into healthcare any further is insane.
