RBB, I was watching an encore Cubs game the other night, off and on when I got home from work, it might have been last night, not sure I’ve slept since then. I found it strange that, and I caught this comment offhandedly, that someone on either the cubs or Rays upper staff, not sure which team, was leaning towards following AL DH rules in the NL. FWIW.

I am a NL fan, it makes the game more interesting And quicker when the pitcher hits, plus forces the manager to manage.
Say anything?
Baseball is boring to watch.
American football games are too long with too much dilly-dallying about. It was good that they quickened the game by about a half hour during the last few years, but they still have work to do.
NBA has no “affirmative action”. For some reason, they are allowed to be exempt.
Redheads are usually kinky. I wonder why that is.

I just got done downloading the original Showtime series Weeds. It is most certainly recommended.
I can’t believe that this woman is 15 years older than me.
She’s a bad girl. This pose looks uncomfortable and does not do her justice.
I have a cat named Chloe. She followed me home for a mile during a walk about four months ago. It has recently cost me 352 bucks to get her preventive shots and spay. It will cost me another 109 bucks for the three week follow up. Does that strike anybody else as stupendously expensive? I feel ripped off. On the plus side, my cat is fine.

Both beer and pot are intoxicants, so having two is twice as bad as having one. Simple math. One bad act doesn’t excuse the other.
Save America; boycott the MSM.
Both beer and pot are intoxicants, so having two is twice as bad as having one. Simple math.
It would be that simple if, and only if, they had the exact same properties.
Alas, they don’t.
Your “simple math” is reminiscent of the “New Math” the new skool educrats teach the dipshits in this nation’s dumbed down Great Society school districts. Full of new skool logik, yet lacking in real world logic.
Life is short. Mind your own business and live and let live.
Now there’s a rant.
Now back to another episode of Weeds. I’ve got MILF weed on the mind and Mary-Louis Parker is calling. Cheers!
Both beer and pot are intoxicants, so having two is twice as bad as having one.
Or twice as good. Depends on your perspective, doesn’t it?
The future ain’t what it used to be.....
Your “simple math” is reminiscent of the “New Math” the new skool educrats teach the dipshits in this nation’s dumbed down Great Society school districts. Full of new skool logik, yet lacking in real world logic.
So, you have to go to personal attack. Sad.
Actually, they are different. Beer not only has nutritional value(real beer, not “lite” beer), but it can be consumed at less than a full level of intoxication. Pot, on the other hand, is consumed with the intent of getting “stoned”.
Or twice as good. Depends on your perspective, doesn’t it?
Definitely. Most of our inner cities are a testament to that perspective, along with Amsterdam, of course.
Save America; boycott the MSM.
likwid: I don’t think of “two is greater than one” as “New Math”, but maybe it’s new to you.
I think “Weeds” is mildly funny, although you have to ignore all the political correctnes and leftie propaganda. Also, MLP was much more attractive to me in the first season, before she got all “crack whore skinny”. Oh, well.
Save America; boycott the MSM.
robert108 - So, you have to go to personal attack.
Sure, if you consider taking one example and comparing it disparagingly to another example as a “personal attack”.
I don’t. It was an attack on one of your personally held opinions, but that’s not the same thing as a personal attack.
Beer not only has nutritional value(real beer, not “lite” beer), but it can be consumed at less than a full level of intoxication.
Now that’s a line of shit.
I can now get a buzz after drinking 8oz of any of the American light beers. Forget real beer! We’re talking about half a bottle of light here and I’m already feeling the effects.
Now what, exactly, can I consume without feeling a buzz? Maybe just a little sip and spit? Does that count as “consumption”?
Alcohol is an immediate quick acting intoxicant. Just because it is a drug that you legally approve of, doesn’t make it any less of an intoxicant drug.
People don’t drink to stay sober, so go peddle that bullshit somewhere else.
Now back to Weeds. I’m on season 3. As for “crack whore skinny”, you’re much too harsh. The woman is fine. 43 is the new 30. You heard it here first!
Oh, one more thing - likwid: I don’t think of “two is greater than one” as “New Math”, but maybe it’s new to you.
The comparison was between two that are not equal. It was then said that it was “twice as bad”, which only makes sense if the two being added up are equal.
My comment was never a question of whether “two is greater than one”.
Maybe this is all new to you, but we’ll work out this New Math bullshit that you’ve been taught if you’re willing to learn. You’ll come to find out that two different values added up or multiplied doesn’t necessarily equal twice. For all we know, it could be thrice!
I don’t watch TV, but I saw an ad for ‘Weeds’ in a magazine the other week.
I think the problem with the ugly pose is the skunk stripe she has dyed into the front of her hairdo. I go for the women with dark eyes/hair.
I agree with r108 about the crackwhore phenomenon. It makes no sense to me why the aesthetically valued women in this country have the build of male asian teens. I find nothing appealing about that. Also, the ‘hawky’ cheekless face cherished by the runways makes me think all these girls need to eat a few pork-chops.
It pisses me off when I go to Miami and see thousands of beautiful central and south American women with the hair died blonde, wearing blue or green contacts. I am reminded of a verse by ‘Tribe Called Quest’. Its amazing how much hip hop lyrics have changed since 1991:
Phife this, Phife that, where you goin’, where you at
These girls don’t know me from jack, yet I feel like the Mack
You didn’t want me then, so hon, don’t want me now
Here, Here - take the towel, wipe off your brow
And take the Ccontact out your eye, you’re far from lookin’ fly
You get an E for effort, and T for nice try
Now tell me what’s the reason, for dyin’ your hair
Slum village gold still danglin in your ear
You barely have a neck but still sportin’ a rope
Four-finger ring just so Phifer can scope
You looked in the mirror, didn’t know what to do
Yesterday your eyes were brown but today they are blue
Your whole appearance is a lie and it could never be true
And if you really loved yourself then you would try and be you
If your hair and eyes were real, I wouldn’t have dissed ya
But since it was bought, I had to dismiss ya
If you can’t achieve it, then why not try and weave it
If you can’t extend it then you might as well suspend it
If you can’t braid it, best thing to do is fade it
I asked who did your hair and you tell me Diane made it
If you were you and just you, talk to you, maybe
But I can’t stand, no bionic lady
Tryin’ hard to look fly, but yo, you’re lookin’ dumber
If I wanted someone like you I woulda swung with Jamie Summers
Yun Chu said, “You must strictly not express in words what is very significant. Both dragon and snake are killed in one blow.”
Mary-Louise Parker is smokin’ hot, and Weeds is a decent show. Entertaining, but nothing mind-blowing.
By the way, r108 talks about lefty propaganda in the show. That’s nothing unusual from Hollywood, but one interesting tid-bit about Weeds is that the song which opens the show (which is apparently sung by a different artist every time) “Little Boxes” was written by Malvina Reynolds (her version is the one that sounds like it’s being sung by an old lady). Reynolds was the daughter of two communist anti-war activists (their war being WWI, things never change do they?) and was herself something of a communist organizer.
“Little Boxes” was meant to lampoon suburbia’s “bourgeois conformist” values. It’s a catchy, if dreadfully sanctimonious, little ditty.
I think The Shins did a cover of it recently.
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Rob’s recently listened-to songs:
The comparison was between two that are not equal. It was then said that it was “twice as bad”, which only makes sense if the two being added up are

Wrong. I was talking quantity, you switched it to quality. In the real world, alcohol is a much bigger problem, overall, in quality of life than all the other drugs combined. My point is: If one drug is bad(alcohol), why add to the problem by socially approving all the rest? I know you might try to come back with how “harmless” pot is, but that’s not my point; illegal drug use tends to metastasize, and Amsterdam is a perfect example of that.
I’m open to a rational argument from you on the benefits of enlarging drug use, but you never seem to make one; you only attack me for not agreeing with your permissive stance on the subject, and never make a direct argument for drug use. You might say, like we erroneously believed in the Sixties, that pot, LSD, and other assorted hallucenogenics “enhance creativity”, for instance.
The only thing I remember from you is one about drug use being some sort of “civil right”, or words to that effect.
Awaiting a rational reply from you.
If all you have is invalidation and personal attack, don’t bother.
Save America; boycott the MSM.
Rob: Here’s my take on “Weeds”: it’s shot through with leftie propaganda. The youngest son regularly lectures on leftie topics, including antiChristian stuff during the last season, where all the Christians are portrayed as religion-obsessed bigots and hypocrites. This is the leftie talking point about Christianity, chapter and verse.
My main objection, though, is about the Politically Correct depiction of all racial and gender issues. The black women are portrayed as wise and all-knowing, and their criminality is justified, even celebrated. Next in the pecking order are the white women, who are good people fucked over by the men in their lives. The black men are criminals, even violent criminals, but somehow, it’s not really their fault(due to the obvious racism here in the US, of course), and they are generally portrayed as lovable rogues. The white men are at the bottom, being selfish, venal and thoroughly dishonest, exploiting everything for their selfish gain. Their drug use is portrayed as degenerate, although somehow they are immune from its effects on them, in that they maintain their privileged social and economic status.
I’m reminded Eddie Murphy’s whiteface skit on SNL.
BTW, I never said MLP was a crack whore; I said that, after the first season, she became as skinny as a crack whore. I didn’t say she was ugly, only that she was less attractive to me, as a result of her weight loss.
Save America; boycott the MSM.
I don’t. It was an attack on one of your personally held opinions, but that’s not the same thing as a personal attack.
You attacked not only my ability to understand and to do math, but mischaracterized my point(a simple quantitative comparison) in the process. It was personal, and it was off the point.
It is possible, despite what you say, to have a beer with dinner(I used to like Dos XX with Mexican food, for instance), without getting “stoned”, contrary to what you said. Contrary to the alcoholism propaganda, most people do drink without becoming drunk.

Personally, I prefer Nubian hair.

robert108 - Wrong. I was talking quantity, you switched it to quality.
No shit? It was hard to tell, because “twice as bad” was used.
That’s quantity?
My point is: If one drug is bad(alcohol), why add to the problem by socially approving all the rest?
Who is talking about socially approving?
...illegal drug use tends to metastasize, and Amsterdam is a perfect example of that.
Oh yeah. That’s where various studies, including one done by NIDA found no correlation between legalization and higher usage. In fact, usage is much higher in the United States.
Great example there.
I’m open to a rational argument from you on the benefits of enlarging drug use, but you never seem to make one...
This should be a clue to you.
I’ll never make that argument. So why do you keep asking for it?
You’ve been around long enough to know that I argue the other route.
...for not agreeing with your permissive stance on the subject...
Permissive? I just don’t believe it should be illegal.
I’m not “permissive” of disgusting language used in mixed company. But guess what? I don’t believe that disgusting language in the presence of mixed company should be illegal either.
...you only attack me...
This looks like a victim complex going on here.
...and never make a direct argument for drug use.
There’s that clue again.
You catching that it’s not my argument yet?
You might say, like we erroneously believed in the Sixties, that pot, LSD, and other assorted hallucenogenics “enhance creativity”, for instance.
Are you really trying to claim that the pretty fractal pictures one sees on acid, for example, doesn’t enhance the artistic creativity?
Okay there. A whole phalanx of artists would disagree with you.
The only thing I remember from you is one about drug use being some sort of “civil right”, or words to that effect.
That would surprise me considering that I don’t and have never believed in the whole concept of “civil rights”. Or anything to that effect.
I do remember making numerous arguments throughout the years of the right to own one’s own body. Crazy opinion there, I know. I also remember a tortured try from you at tying it into abortion by bringing up one of the left’s false “my body (even though it’s not just her body; a point we’ve both made in the past)” argument. That was fun to read.
Awaiting a rational reply from you.
And I’m awaiting for a time when you don’t manufacture your opponents’ positions and then demand that they answer for those manufactured positions. Considering that, I do believe you’ll be waiting for a long time, robert. You just don’t recognize many rational arguments. In fact, you twist the arguments of many here into irrationalities and then demand answers for those irrationalities.
If all you have is invalidation and personal attack, don’t bother.
Considering that opposing your positions is characterized as a “personal attack”, whatever.
Not sure what the “invalidation” part is supposed to mean. Maybe that’s when your opponent denies having the opinions you claim that he must answer for. Who knows with you.
It is possible, despite what you say, to have a beer with dinner(I used to like Dos XX with Mexican food, for instance), without getting “stoned”, contrary to what you said.
There’s that manufactured irrationality again.
I don’t use that word and didn’t say that.
Contrary to the alcoholism propaganda, most people do drink without becoming drunk.
Quite correct.
I believe the word used was “buzz”. The vernacular intoxication scale starts with a buzz. Or maybe a tickle. Drunk is a bit down the line. People with normal metabolizing livers and normal bodies don’t get drunk on 8 ozs of beer and if you can find any alcoholism propaganda that states otherwise, I would like to see it.
But they do get buzzes!
the dirty little secret of black culture: skin bleaching cream and hair straighteners
i don’t know about the cream, but chemical straighteners are no secret. snoop dog uses them.
Yun Chu said, “You must strictly not express in words what is very significant. Both dragon and snake are killed in one blow.”
No shit? It was hard to tell, because “twice as bad” was used.
That’s quantity?
It’s real simple: “Two is twice as much as one, quantitatively speaking.
You catching that it’s not my argument yet?
Despite your denial, that is the outcome of legalizing(permitting) drug use. You can produce a blizzard of verbiage about “body rights"(sounds similar to a civil rights argument to me), but the bottom line is that it will encourage drug use by mainstreaming it. One of the arguments parents use to keep their children off drugs is that it’s a crime. You would eliminate that barrier. “Hey, Dad; it’s legal, so get off my back, OK? It must be OK if it’s legal! Stop trying to control me!” I’m sure this will be beneficial to society.
Considering that opposing your positions is characterized as a “personal attack”, whatever.
Now you’re just lying. Instead of facts or logic, you speak of my supposed inability to do math, try to lump me in with govt schools, and assume a lack of either education or intelligence on my part. That’s personal attack, no matter how you try to deny it.
You go into this frenzy every time I state my views on drug use. At the very least, you are intolerant, while masquerading as an advocate of personal freedom.
I know drug use is bad, and will never pretend otherwise. I have lost many friends to the escalation of drug use, starting with pot, and it didn’t benefit me all that much, either. You can try to sell drug legalization to me, but I’m not buying.
The “it’s no worse than beer” argument is a bad one, which I have already pointed out. You never gave a logical or factual argument against what I said, only tried to shift the playing field from quantity to quality, and you lost on that one, as well.
I’m sorry that my lack of support for drug legalization upsets you, but it’s not going to change, and especially not without any sort of valid argument showing the benefit of the outcome, which would be increased drug use, especially among those too young to make a good judgment on the subject.
Save America; boycott the MSM.

I do view alcohol as requiring a more difficult case to be made for its legalization, compared to marijuana, despite our current laws. LSD should be regulated a little more heavily than the former two. But it should be prescribable, IMO.

Actually, the “body rights” argument makes it difficult to prohibit anything.
Despite all the lies to the contrary, I don’t personally favor legislation; I favor shunning.
However, I can appreciate the position of those who want to keep drugs out of our society(and especially away from children) much more than I appreciate the drug users’ position. I have seen the real world consequences of the latter.

Yeah, everyone that goes to the beach or fishes is attempting to be black. Maybe the people that go to tanning beds aren’t trying to be black, but are trying to be Spanish or Middle Eastern? Maybe they want to be Brazilian? The stupidity that is compressed in the above quote is simply amazing. Quite an achievement.
