Al Gore III - A Lesson in Privilege

Al Gore’s son pleaded guilty Monday to possessing marijuana and other drugs, but a judge said the plea could be withdrawn and the charges dropped if he successfully completes a drug diversion program.

Authorities have said they found drugs in Al Gore III’s car after the 24-year-old was pulled over on July 4 for going 100 mph in his Toyota Prius.

He pleaded guilty Monday to two felony counts of drug possession, two misdemeanor counts of drug possession without a prescription, and one misdemeanor count of marijuana possession…

But if he completes rehab,
“At that point, he will be able to withdraw his guilty plea as if he never entered it,”
according to Jaime Coulter, senior deputy district attorney.

Wow! I’m sure they extend the same courtesy to poor whites and blacks caught in similar circumstances! Besides, who’ll remember all this in 2009?

Deputies who pulled Gore over said they discovered less than an ounce of marijuana and a variety of medications, including Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall. Authorities said Gore did not have a prescription for any of those medications. (Wow! A walking drugstore!)

Gore also was charged with a traffic infraction for speeding.
Oh, yeah! That minor 100 MPH chase!

Here’s the kicker...irony alert in 3...2...1:

He (Gore III) now lives in Los Angeles and is an associate publisher of GOOD, a magazine about philanthropy

Philantrophy! Bet he learned that at his Daddy's knee! (When Al Gore was pulling down six figures as Veep and reported a few hundred dollars of charitable giving on his income taxes!)
Yup! Better to give than to receive. That’s probably where he was heading so fast with all those drugs! He just couldn’t wait to give them all away! (snort!)

Gore III Pleads Guilty in Drug Case

why is that privilege? many states offer ‘diversion’ as an option to first or even second time misdemeanor drug or alcohol offenders. i got one of my ‘possession of malt beverage by a minor’ charges scrubbed from my record like that.
frankly, i think it should be for minors and people who aren’t driving cars while they are inebriated, popping pills and smoking joints.
if you make fun of mini-gore, do it because he’s a hideous little thing. if my dad was al gore, i would probably be living in a cardboard box and shooting up.

why is that privilege?

How many felonies does it take before you consider that it is not?

Yes, in fact it is offered to first time offenders in most states, along with deferred sentences that never get entered in the record if you complete your probation.  In fact it would be unfair to not offer this to him because than he would be treated differently than other people.

So, “taxing the rich” is OK, but punishing the son of a rich Dem politician for his criminal behavior is “unfair”?

He is getting the same punishment as everybody else in his situtation.  He’s not getting any more or less punishment.

He’s not getting any more or less punishment.

Exactly.  We should punish the rich with higher taxes, though, eh?  You really didn’t understand what I wrote, did you?

This thread is not about taxes.  Its about whether Al Gore III is getting special treatment.

Lestat on July 31, 2007 at 06:52 am

My comment wasn’t about taxes; it was about rich people getting special punitive treatment, and a rich Dem boy not being punished for his crimes - it was about typical leftie hypocrisy.
Are you really that dense?

No, but it appears you are.

He did get punished for his crimes, the same as everybody else.

So why shouldn’t the rich get to pay the same taxes as everybody else?  You really are that dense.

This is his second offense. He was caught with some weed back in 2003. He completed “counseling” in order to settle those charges.

Now granted, he got caught this time in a different state, but that usually doesn’t mean anything when it comes to drugs.

Got caught again for drug possession?  Maybe he can blame it on global warming.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

Proof,

Instead of just making accusations, why don’t you go look up the law and show why he was not eligible for this sentence?  My guess is because you can’t and attacking somebody is easier and more fulfilling.

go look up the law

I believe it is the application of the law that is in question. If III got a free ride on his first offense, got his slate (and not his clock) cleaned after some token rehab, so that he could once again qualify as a “first” offender, I’ll pose the question (a question is not necessarily an accusation- you could look it up if you’re still confused!) again:

How many felonies does it take before you consider that it is not (priveledge)?

Driving 100 MPH under the inifluence of drugs poses a danger to society. Or wouldn’t you mind have your loved ones share a highway with an impaired, speeding Gore III? If in 2009 his slate is wiped clean again, will the NEXT time he is caught endangering the public be considered a “first offense”?
