A Winning Plan For November

This morning Glenn Beck commented that at one time or another he has been a social conservative or a fiscal conservative. Now he is both.

This afternoon Rush Limbaugh told a listener that, “Barack Obama must not be allowed anywhere near 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue”.  He stopped short of explaining how that could be done.

Like many, he cannot bring himself to say that the only way to stop Obama is the election of Senator McCain.

In today’s Washington Times, Tom Delay (R) of Texas analyzed why the right is in a losing mode and a downward spiral.

After considering these sources and the many positions outlined on SAB and other blogs, I come to the following strategy for winning in November.

1.  Go out and get every sensible person we know registered as a republican and then make sure they vote. The dems have been building their voter-rolls at the grass-roots for the last 3 years.

2.  Engage every potential voter we know who is anywhere on our side of the fence. Stop applying strict conservative litmus-tests to people who could help us in the cause.

3.  Open up our wallets! Campaigns are won on money and votes.  The liberals are swimming in both.

4.  Stop pointing the blame-finger. It won’t help.

5.  Accept the fact that we don’t have a presidential candidate who is strong on energy or immigration. Focus on the fact that he is strong on the war, federal court appointments, the 2nd Amendment, Right to Life, lower taxes and smaller government.  We could do worse.

6.  Stop attacking each other and our candidates and go after the real enemy… Senator Barack Obama and the liberals.  Give up the false idea that 4 years of Obama will make everyone wake up.

7.  Work to get republicans in office at every level where we can help make it happen; city councils, state and county governments, congress and the White House.

8.  Wake up and smell the coffee.  We are in an all-out war for the future of this country. The liberals smell victory like never before and they mean to transform our culture if they win.

9.  Get real.  There is no point in our daily assaults on Obama and the liberals if we turn right around and shoot our own candidates in the foot at the same time.

10 Get over the defeatist attitude. We are not “so screwed”!  People want a reason to vote republican.  It’s time we unify our brain-power and and our party and give them a reason.  The alternative is unthinkable.

But we lose either way.

Don’t you think you’d be better served by trying to get your candidate to take positions that will get him electable.

He’s made a calculated decision (wrong in my opinion) that he doesn’t need my vote.

McCain does need your vote.  He just can’t tailor his campaign to suit every single voter’s desires.

You’re going to have to do whatever suits you, but me and lots of others will not stand by and see the country turned over to Barack Obama without a fight.

Hell, even I don’t mind a McCain presidency.  You guys are screwed any way you look at it.

He is not that difficult of a guy to get him to lean towards the left side of the mainstream.

Hannitized on June 9, 2008 at 06:42 pm

The voters gave McCain the nomination.  Doing nothing is a vote for Obama, but then you’ve already said that and so have I.

This conversation is pointless.

Hannitized makes my point.

I’ll be voting, probably for Bob Barr.  If the Libertarian ticket jumps up 5 points or so it will be a good message to future Republican nominees that they can’t promise to communize the economy and win.

McCain does need your vote.

Then he needs to earn it by making a strong reason to vote for him, and he doesn’t seem to care about doing that.  All you can come up with is “he’s not as bad as Obama”, which is extremely weak.  Give us a positive reason to vote for him, if you can.
I don’t believe he will stand up to the Dem Congress when they try to withdraw the funding for Iraq; he will “cross the aisle” to get along, just like he has always done.  I want the damage from the global warming and “tax the wealthy” nonsense to be on the Dems, not a guy masquerading as a Republican.

The risks to this country are too horrible to contemplate if Obama wins POTUS with a filibuster- proof Leftist Congress. It will be two to four years of unmitigated hell on earth and we could lose this country in the process; but, hell it is better to make a point by not voting and letting Obama into the White House, because hell, it will make you feel better even as the country implodes to say you were right.

It is true that McCain is a liberal in many ways, he is not selling us on why to vote for him, it is a weak damn campaign to say vote for me because the other guy is worse, and if he won’t fight POTUS he doesn’t deserve to win. But, I guess people like me and Pparets are suckers for preferring a feckless, liberal leaning McCain as POTUS versus a pure Leftist of the worst order, an appeaser, a naive fool like Obama that can destroy this country.

It is no suprise at all that Conservatism is dead in this country - it is dead, that liberalism or moderate Republicanism (RINO’s) will rule this country for decades. There is more than enough hatred among conservatives for each other, as often displayed here at SA; so little tolerance for differences of opinion among conservatives; and each one, a king unto himself demands that every other conservative accept their rigid views of conservatism or shut the hell up.

Everything said here about McCain is mostly true, he is a sickening choice for POTUS, until you seriously consider the purely evil alternative and by that comparison he looks pretty good. When they swear in Obama this country moves drastically Left overnight and we all lose big time. Obama calls the Democrat Party “his party” now, Ted Kennedy with a well deserved brain tumor has promised to help Obama make National Health Care into Law, Obama’s promises of high taxes, class warfare and even racial warfare will be a reality overnight, but by all means let us be stylish and as my father once told me, out of anger “cut off our noses just to spite our faces.” Only this time the people not voting for RINO McCain will be cutting off our national future, just to satisfy our pride.

The only good thing is that they’ll be screwing themselves up as well.

Besides watching Obama self destruct will be fun.

Finally I don’t think it’ll matter.  When the election gets close we’ll hear so much about Charles Keating you’ll wonder why it didn’t come up in the primary season.

In fact I look forward to the deer in the headlights look when McCain tries to explain he didn’t do anything really wrong.

Whistler: I have said for a long time that we must hold McCain accountable, the Party must make that crystal clear to him, we need to elect a lot of conservative legislators to prevent a filbuster-proof congress and get some strong, electable conservative candidates groomed to take over from McCain in four years.

I don’t like this guy any more than you do, it is just that I truly fear an Obama Presidency more.

Whistler: I share your feelings about not liking this situation at all. But, considering your children’s future, you must seriously ask yourself if four-years with a Leftist of the most extreme nature (Obama), with a solid Socialist, filibuster-proof Congress, willing to do his bidding will do to this country is a risk you really want to assume on their behalf. Isn’t a half-loaf Republican like McCain less of a danger to their future if we all work to take back the party during that time?

I also hate this election cycle, I have voted since the early Sixties and I have never seen the nation facing the danger it will face with an Obama presidency. It is truly sickening! But, if we can rebuild the Conservative base and take back over, at least in Congress, in four years, won’t we have a better chance at rescuing the nation from Obama and the Democrats destructive folly.

I am second to none in my respect for you at SA, but on this one occasion I sincerely believe your are absolutely wrong to risk even a few years of an Obama presidency and a Leftist Filibuster-Proof Congress, because I think there is a real risk that things could be so bad in a few years, the Democrats will ensure a century or more of unchallenged political power absent violent revolution. Just think of the fairness doctrine being resurrected in the first year and conservative thought being denied the American people. That is just one tiny thing they can do to dstroy us in a few years.

For one thing his whole career has been to split away from the party.

After 2000 he was ready to leave the party, there’s even a story out there that he didn’t vote for GWB.  (Boy and PP get’s on me).

But more importantly I think his policies will be so bad that they’ll lead to no end of problems for the country.  Of course the Republicans will take the blame.

Not only that his personality is such that it’s ripe for full on attack from the press.  That’s going to be bad for the party.

Plus his ethical lapses are going to do more harm for the party than this November than Mark Foley and more deservedly so.

GWB has been bad for the party.  Now I respect him and aside from his idiotic stand for amnesty I think he’s stood for the things.  But he’s been bad for the party mostly because he won’t or can’t stick up for what’s right.  McCain will be much worse.

I don’t believe that is true.  I haven’t done the research but I believe McCain supported the Republicans on Supreme Court nominees, tax breaks, gun control, Iraqi/Afghanistan wars, traditional marriage, late term abortions to name a few.

But more importantly I think his policies will be so bad that they’ll lead to no end of problems for the country.  Of course the Republicans will take the blame.

And that’s not going to happen with Obama?  Anyway the Dems will find a way to blame the Republicans when their socialist programs implode.

robert108 on June 9, 2008 at 08:53 pm

Interesting choice of examples:

McCain will not give up the war on terror.

By closing Gitmo and getting every terrorist a lawyer.

He will keep taxes low.

I would believe him more if he hadn’t voted against these tax cuts as going to the wealthy.

He will nominate conservative judges and justices.

But he sabotaged conservative judges in the name of getting along with the Dems.

He will defend the 2nd Amendment.

With his GAO “F” ratings?

He will support right to life.

By compromising with the Dems on judges.

He will resist bigger government.

Right Tax, Cap, Regulate and Trade is “smaller government.”

Maybe he will do some of those things or at least try(which is all you can expect), however his senate record on any of them isn’t that good.

robert108:  I apologize.  Whistler does not think Obama will be good for the nation.  He and you have both - on any number of occasions - argued that an Obama presidency will hasten a conservative resurgence. It’s the party you are concerned about.

Goon does not think he will be good for this nation but it might be what we need to get on the right track.

My Rush quote is no diversion. It is the second paragraph in my original post which, obviously, you never bothered to read.

Once again, I asked you for a positive reason to vote for McCain; I’m still waiting.  I didn’t ask what Rush said, so yes, you did try to distract.

It’s the party you are concerned about.

Wrong.  I care about keeping America about American values.  As of right now, neither the Dems or the Republicans stand for American values(conservatism), so I don’t support either one.  Now, there is no chance in hell that the Dems will embrace American values anytime soon, but the Republicans(McCain) only recently strayed from American values, so I think supporting that Party might be a better way to return to American values.  Clear now?
It’s really tiring to have to continually correct your mischaracterizations; it’s like trying to discuss something with a leftie.

pp: You have failed to give the very best reason to oppose Obama: Michelle Obama.  Even if you missed Barack’s obvious racism, you just can’t ignore Michelle’s.  She’s your best bet to foist McCain on us, IMO.

Very good point, robert108:  Hard to imagine a more desructive, racist First Lady role model than Madame Michelle.

And, in my humble opinion, she is the one of that pair who actually has a spine.  Look for her to call the shots from behind the scenes.

Goon does not think he will be good for this nation but it might be what we need to get on the right track.

What galls me on this is that you and others are willing to gamble on the future of the nation on the remote chance that it might be beneficial for the long run.  If anything, history shows (look at Europe & Canada) that once a nation becomes socialistic it stays socialistic because welfare programs once implemented are virtually impossible to reverse because they develop so many vested interests.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

So Obama would be Reaganesque?

Wasn’t one feature of that transition the fact that the “conservative” faction accepted the premises of the left.

Sound familiar?

Sound familiar?

Nope.  Europe went socialist because people like hand-outs and leaders like Barack Obama were more than willing to offer them.

Maybe that explains why Obama is the darling of the European press and John McCain is not.

robert108 - Once again, I asked you for a positive reason to vote for McCain; I’m still waiting.

McCain gets the war. He understands that it has to be fought.

The Democrat candidate, on the other hand, wants to practice appeasement and surrender.

You may not believe that McCain will stand up to the Democrat Congress when they try to withdraw the funding for Iraq, but ask yourself this: who would you rather have as CiC when and if the shit hits the fan?

McCain would endorse fighting to protect America.

Barack Obama would bend over to take it in the ass.

It’s a night and day difference, and it is the seminal issue facing us in this election. There’s a war going on! Only one candidate knows this, and that candidate is John McCain.

He will begrudgingly get my vote.

likwidshoe on June 10, 2008 at 09:04 am

McCain would endorse fighting to protect America.

He will give it lip service, but won’t fight the Dems when they start gutting the military.  In reality, the only difference between McCain and Obama is about 6 months or so.  Obama will appease the Islamics immediately, and McCain will bluster and foam, then do the same thing by going along with the Dems, like he usually does.

Europe went socialist because people like hand-outs and leaders like Barack Obama were more than willing to offer them.

Wrong.  Europe went from monarchism to socialism without ever going for our type of system.  It’s the fundamental difference between Americans and Euroweenies.  Compared to their former status as peasants under a Monarch, the euros think they are doing very well under socialism; we know better.
Big difference. It’s not the system, it’s the people.

It’s not the system, it’s the people

Which is exactly why your monarchy-to-socialism analysis doesn’t fly.  People like handouts!

Look at our own history.  A slow, steady creep to entitlement socialism.  No king here.

Not if you take McCain at his word: he has already promised to “cross the aisle” and to “hire Democrats in my administration”.  You do the math.
Like I said, he may talk tough on the war, but when it comes to fighting the Dems for funding, he will go along to get along. It’s in his history.

All presidents cross the aisle.  Show me one who hasn’t.

McCain has already fought the dems repeatedly on war spending right in the well of the Senate.  He will continue to do so.

I’d like them to get something in exchange for crossing the aisle. It should be worth more than we give up.

I doubt McCain will do that.

Nice try at distraction, but beside the point, and misleading.  He has historically stabbed Republicans in the back, in order to build his reputation as a “maverick”, and you know it.  Right now, he’s running by appealing to Dems and “independents”.  He’s betraying his own Party.

If it’s a distraction, it’s a distraction you made up.

So, show me a president who hasn’t.

I don’t see any other way for conservatives to gain their mojo back, is to have the left run the country into the ground. The dems are already in charge of both houses and what have they done, blame republican more specifically Bush for the countries problems.

I don’t agree. What it will take is a leader to emerge.  I don’t think we have to go down a craphole to get one, at least we shouldn’t.

But sure as shit, McCain’s not that leader.
