A Congressman for D.C.?

The Washington Post reports on a bill which clears the way for the District of Columbia to elect its very own Representative. Eric Muller wonders about the constitutionality of this development. Fun speculation ensues.

Getting D.C. representation in Congress would require amending the constitution, I think.  I also don’t think D.C. should have any representation in Congress.

D.C. was never meant to be a place for citizens.  It was meant to be the seat of government, with the vast majority of residents being there only temporarily while they served the interests of their constituents.

Giving the citizens of D.C. would mean giving representation to all the government bureaucrats who live there.  Meaning that the government itself would have a vote in Congress.

A conflict of interest we should avoid at all costs for obvious reasons.

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Its a safe Dem seat.

Hence the drumbeat for it every few years from the Dems and the libs...trying to artificially increase their political advantage.
