17 Years Later…160 Years Sentenced

Oh boy.

Jeffrey Pelley, 34, was sentenced to 160 years in prison, for the killing of his minister-father, and 3 others with a shotgun. Police said that back in April 1989, he was mad at his father for grounding him the day before the LayVille High School Prom.

Alright, that’s a little sickening. Why must it take this long to sentence the guy? It’s just ridiculous, can’t we put him to death and get it over with?

Comments

The kid was 17 yrs old when he committed the crime… and his father was a minister… God (no pun) knows what kind of responsibility inhibiting abuse happened to him when he was younger. Maybe we shouldn’t ‘just put him to death and get it over with’.

He’s got no responsibility.  Nobody does.  It’s just one of those things.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Whistler
I feel some types of extreme abuse or perhaps the inheritance of a poor, imcomplete, or bizarre values set can mitigate responsibility. While we may not be able to kill the murderer, as he lacks the sufficient control/intent to justify it, I no doubt feel we have an abligation to protect the greater society from these people. So… ‘just put him to death and get it over with’ seemed to also be lacking the appropriate values set that, if present, would be neccesary for the strong type of responsibility one would wish to have present in order to justify capital punishment. In other words, if they don’t know what’s right to a certain sufficient extent, where to we ground the huge amount of responsibility needed for capital punishment?

Do you have any evidence that this person was abused to that point or is it just your anti-religious bias showing through.

I am not talking religion here. Didn’t mean to offend your Calvinist morals either. According to my math the KID was 17 when he committed the crime. Whether or not you are fully in control of an adequate value set at that age is debatable and is probably why we consider adults to be 18 in this country.

Yep, he’s not responsible for the crime.  He was 17.

Everyone’s got a fricken excuse but it doesn’t fly with me.

If you want to talk about being too young to know right or wrong let’s talk under 10.

I guess it would depend on who brought those 10 years olds up. Frankly, most people in this country don’t raise adequately responsible 20 year olds, let alone 10 year olds.

You’re right, let’s just jail the parents, however in the case that’d be hard to do since he murdered them.

Imagine that, grounding him from Prom.  He deserved it.

While we’re at it, let’s jail his teachers Kindergarten on.

After all they had him for thousands of hours.

Was the “kid” ever in daycare?

Avatar for whatthe...

Ok...I can tell that both of you clearly have not researched this case at all and just read the headline. He was convicted on very, very circumstantial evidence that could barely link him to the crime. He was not even grounded from prom. The police work in this case has been very shoddy and narrow minded they did not even take finger prints at the crime scene because they thought they already had there man who had to of shot four people, one up stairs and three in the basement, take a shower, wash his clothes, and be in a tuxedo for prom in 20 minutes, so i don’t know if i could go ahead and fry him up based on these couple of examples out of many, it would be hard to live with if it were me...and his dad and family were very loving and not abusive, at all.

whatthe...Frankly being as removed as we are we have to assume that the information in the news articles is correct.

Now if you want to post some other sources I’m sure that would be interesting.
