The Butterfly Effect – On Guilt
The butterfly effect – The Butterfly Effect is a phrase that encapsulates the more technical notion of sensitive dependence on initial conditions in chaos theory. The idea is that small variations in the initial conditions of a dynamical system produce large variations in the long term behavior of the system.
Feelings of guilt can change behavior. Guilt can make a person dour. Guilt tends to reduce self esteem. Guilt can manifest physical ailments. Guilt can manifest emotional and mental conditions. Guilt can cause death.
When a person feels guilty about a situation, they tend to avoid the people they feel guilt about. A guilty person will develop a negative aura that others try to avoid.
A guilty person is less likely to be involved in business or social opportunities.
One of the things I love about most religions is the notion of forgiveness. Forgiving yourself can remove guilt. Removing guilt can be the single biggest improvement any of us can ever make in our lives.

Plame Writes Memo Before Cheney Asks Question
Excuse me if I copy anyone… I searched…
On February 7th, 2007 Byron York wrote and article about how Joe Wilson was picked to go to Niger.
According to the Senate report, Valerie Plame Wilson sent her e-mail on February 12, 2002 — the day before the vice president was briefed on the African uranium matter. The discrepancy between the two dates seems glaring, but was not included in the Senate report. That is because, according to a source familiar with the committee’s investigation, the CIA did not include the document in the materials it turned over to the committee. Senate investigators apparently never knew the exact date of the vice president’s request, so they never knew it came after Plame’s e-mail.
What does the new information mean? On February 12, 2002, the Defense Intelligence Agency released — inside the government, not publicly — a report covering the Africa uranium issue; its title said that Niger had “signed an agreement to sell 500 tons of uranium a year to Baghdad.” CIA officials told Senate investigators the report spurred requests for information from both the State Department and the Department of Defense. Knowledgeable sources speculate — and they stress, they are speculating — that those inquiries from State and Defense were made on the 12th, the day the Defense Intelligence Agency report was sent around, and that Valerie Plame Wilson, in suggesting her husband be sent to investigate, was reacting to those requests, and not to the vice president’s question, which came the next day. In this new version of events, Dick Cheney was the last guy to request more information, not the first; the notion that his request started the whole affair seems wrong.
Read the whole thing… It’s like she lied or something…
Can’t Win
Story Here
The Honley Church of England Junior School in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, decided that since pigs are offensive to Muslims, it should rework the classic tale and call it “The Three Little Puppies” instead, according to the Daily Mail of London.
Did it work? Did the act of capitulation make Muslims feel more at home?
Islamic leaders, however, condemned the move as misguided and said decisions like this were turning Muslims into “misfits” in society.
The moral? Changing everything in an attempt to NOT offend is, perhaps, MORE offensive than not changing…
This line of thinking:
“We have to be sensitive if we want to be multi-cultural. It was felt it would be more responsible not to use the three little pigs,” said committee member Gill Goodswen, head teacher of Stile Common Junior School.is likely to do more harm than good, but is indicative of the left’s desire to make sure that no one has hurt feelings.
Morons!

The Debate Over Iraq - Part Duex XXXLBIVIXX
Okay… I’ve been debating with GEEZ PPL in this thread
GEEZ PPL
My question to you is how can you stand by a government who invades countries who have “committed acts of terror” without any conclusive proof?
I responded with:
First and foremost, the US had a cease-fire agreement with Iraq that was broken nearly EVERY SINGLE DAY for 12 years.
Second, there is massive amounts of proof that Saddam had WMD and used them.
Third, Saddam funded suicide bombers by paying $25,000 to the families of a successful terrorist attack against Israel.
We have found WMD in roadside bombs. Papers have been found showing that Saddam was very readily able to restart his nuclear ambitions. Joseph Wilson lied in his OP-ED to the NYT, but was mostly honest in his testimony to the Senate and his report to the CIA (perhaps you could read that text)…
You said that you agree that Saddam needed to go… but you would leave a power vacuum? Do you think the job of overthrowing a dictator is like a video game or an epic movie???? Do you think that it should be over in 20 hours? 20 days? 20 months? These things take time and every situation is different.
How long was the US military in Japan or Germany after the end of WW2?
How long did it take to stabilize the government? We have a large group of people actively trying to thwart the new government in Iraq. They are not retarded. They are religious fundamentalists who see Britney Spears and Paris Hilton as representatives of the West. They want the West to fail in setting up a Western style government because they do not want the perversion that comes with it.
Education and TIME (and blowing the crap out of the enemy) are the only ways we can fight the zealots.
As for bombing civilians. The US has spent BILLIONS and BILLIONS on making weapons that are extraordinarily accurate. Why do we do that? Because we don’t want to take innocent lives!
Yet, the freaks we are trying to kill hide among the civilians… use them for shields… and then people like you claim that we kill civilians on purpose.
Thanks for helping the terrorists! That’s just great. :(
If you have just missed all the news about WMD that has been found, or missed all the news about the good things we’ve done in Iraq, then fine… It doesn’t make the news… But stop being a willing accomplice to the enemy. Stop aiding them.
The US doesn’t want LAND or Iraqi OIL… we’ve proven that OVER AND OVER!
We are not evil people looking to destroy everyone. We just want to stop those that would kill to further their political ends. We want peace, but peace doesn’t mean allowing the enemy to kill you. Peace doesn’t mean “capitulation”.
GEEZ PPL replied:
BLAHBLAHBLAH….
I’m assuming that you believe in freedom of speech, democracy and all the things that make living in the free world great?!?
How is bulldozering your way through a country without any thought to the aftermath helping the ppl of Iraq?
The only reason that troops are still there is that there is a big ‘ol mess to clear up. Why did all those nations vote against invasion? Not to save themselves. Maybe they believed as i do that stomping around with ya oversized army boots will just cause anger in the ppl you’re trying to save.
Are you saying that there was no otherway to help those ppl?
Or was it just that Bush wanted to finish off the job his dad started?

Carbon Credits
How does one purchase a carbon credit and once purchased, can you return it or exchange it for some other type of credit?
Would these make good Christmas presents?
Maybe Earth Day presents?
Does the purchase of a “credit” force CO2 out of the atmosphere?
When a credit is purchased in 2007 does it hold the same value in 2008?
Can I pre-purchase carbon credits for my children like I did their pre-paid college fund?
Maybe I can leave carbon credits to people in my will?
Are Carbon Credits Taxed? At what rate?
Do you get a tax break for buying them?
A Message From Hillary - What Crap!
I am on Hillary’s mailing list. Today she writes:
Dear Seth,
Today I called on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to resign. Join me in calling for him to step down.
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/resignnow
Why should Gonzales resign? Because he is at the center of a widening scandal over the firing of several U.S. attorneys—firings we now know to be political. These attacks on the impartiality of the federal government’s prosecutors are a genuine threat to the foundations of our justice system.
But what did Bill do when he was in office, just before his inquest?
From The MRC
Bode did note Reno’s unprecedented decision to fire all 93 U.S. Attorneys “has become a highly visible test of how political the Justice Department will be under Bill Clinton and Janet Reno.” But Bode let Reno declare herself non-political in three soundbites—while GOP officials never appeared in the story.
Chaos Rising
It occurs to me that the Left is fond of chaos.
The Left will readily use scare tactics, which can cause chaos.
The Left will give light sentences to egregious criminals, creating chaos in the backlash and for the community where the criminal lives.
The Left employs mobs as a means to political ends.
The Left is adamantly anti-faith (read Christian) which is where most people find their “order” in life.
Whenever there is a problem, the Left tries to instigate as much rage and hate as is possible… to create Chaos?!?
Why does the Left like Chaos? Chaos doesn’t create anything positive.

Questions For Global Warming Zealots
2. Exactly what global climate change is “normal” (Eg. if man wasn’t around what would be happening to the planet?)
3. Exactly how much reduction of our use of energy would be required to return to a natural climate change?
I posted these questions as a comment here.
- Update -
The Wistler adds:
4. If the US were to completely quit producing CO2 (I don’t know how) would that satisfy question #3.
and ManOfFireAndLight says none of these can be answered, so he wants to know
5. How long is a piece of string?

My First Post
I guess everyone does their initial blog posts where they say “Hi”, “How yah doin’”, etc. Fact is most of the regulars here know me. I’ve been posting and commenting here on Say Anything for a while now. I had a lengthy hiatus from posting, but might have some time now and again to write some of my thoughts.
A few years ago when I was introduced to SayAnything, I fell in love with the forum, the look, the IDEA of a medium that can reach so many… I love the thought of education.
One of my basic driving principles is that more education is better for everyone. Educated people can make better choices. etc… I’ll expound on that in a while.
I think I am going to use this forum to jot down and rationalize many of my own beliefs. I imagine that it will be therapeutic as well as educational.
