Obama Confident Congress Will Pass New Stimulus Plan…
...like the winner of a hot dog eating contest following it up with a good dose of Ex-Lax. $825 billion???
“But what I think unifies this group is recognition that we are experiencing an unprecedented, perhaps, economic crisis that has to be dealt with, and dealt with rapidly,” Obama said. He thanked the House and Senate for “moving forward very diligently” on passing what he called a “recovery and renewal plan,” adding, “I know that it is a heavy lift.”
A heavy lift for who? Oh yeah, us, the public, perhaps.
Urgency evidently is its own justification for anything. Funny how that rationale didn’t work for terrorism according to the liberals.
Some conservative Democrats are joining Republicans in complaining that the package is too big and some of the spending plans too wasteful.
NO! There’s no such thing or so some wags from the wacky world of liberalism keep saying, sometimes right here in the Say Anything commenter line-up. Consider me surprised.
Meanwhile from the Republican minority…
“There’s unanimity that our economy needs help, and there’s also a desire to move a package that would help rescue our economy,” said House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio). “We expressed our concerns about some of the spending that’s being proposed in the House bill and the fact that it doesn’t spend out very quickly.” He said there were also “concerns . . . about the size of the package.”
The GOP proposes “fast-acting tax relief” in the form of bigger tax cuts, Boehner told reporters outside the White House.
Make of that pregnant pause about the size of the package what dirty thing you will. I am pretty sure the size of the package will soon become an SNL punchline and possibly the epitaph for the American economy.
Fast-acting tax relief? Maybe, but does it have to sound like Alka-Seltzer? Oh, they clarify.
“At the end of the day, the government can’t solve this problem,” he said. “The American people have to solve it. And the way they can solve it is if we allow them to keep more of the money that they earn.”
Okay, that first sentence is correct. Government can create problems very well. Solve them not so much.
Yes, the American people DO have to solve it. Very good. Question is, do they understand what it is they are solving or are they nailing jelly to a tree?
Allow us to keep more of the money we earn?! Caution, paradigm shifting without popping the clutch!
Memo to congress, you do NOT “allow” us anything. We the people allow you to have our money at all, and we allow you to say how much you need and we decide to cooperate with you. So far. Don’t push it. We didn’t let King George get away with it forever. Remember from whence the power flows before the public does, and preferably soon so you can get it across to the Messiah-In-Chief.
Thanks. We the gainfully employed appreciate it. While you’re at it, take a few bucks from petty cash for some hankys. The next few years are gonna have you sweating a lot if the MIC has anything to say about it.
