Cheney has taken the lead in assailing President Obama’s national security measures and defending his own administration’s policies on the treatment of detainees, among other issues.
He took his case to the airwaves again Tuesday, and lashed out at the Obama team’s decision to soon hand over 44 photos showing abuse of detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan to the American Civil Liberties Union as a judge had ordered. Cheney said releasing the photos would only make the country less safe.
“What I think (heh.) is important is that there be some balance to what is being released.
Apparently Cheney has now come out in advocacy of the infamous ‘fairy doctrine’.
The fact of the matter is the administration appears to be committed to putting out information that sort of favors their point of view in terms of being opposed to, for example, [sub-human, brutal, sadistic torture] techniques,” Cheney said in a F[*cks] News interview.
I called Cheney up yesterday on my little blue phone, but all he would say is: “Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me!”
“This is an incredible opportunity and I am excited to work with HarperCollins to tell my story and Alaska’s story,” Palin said in a statement.
That would be plausible premise, if she could speak English.
“There have been so many things written and said through mainstream media that have not been accurate [enough], and it will be nice through an unfiltered forum to get to speak truthfully (heh.) about who we are and what we stand for and what Alaska is all about,” Palin said.
I just want to be clear as I can here, so Palin doesn’t get confused:
I think Palin is a stupid bitch.
I don’t think Alaska is a stupid bitch.
I hope she appreciates the difference, but I fear she might not, because she is a stupid bitch. I wonder why she is claiming I might think Alaska is a stupid bitch…
He says conditions are difficult for everyone in the West Bank because of the Israeli partition walls.
He says the walls are hindering commerce, stopping people travelling to the holy places in Jerusalem and stopping relatives from visiting.
Israel says the system of barriers it is building around the West Bank, sometimes cutting deep into occupied territory, is a security measure, although Palestinians call it a land grab.
Jonny says the exodus has affected members of the Christian population in particular. He says they have left in greater numbers than Muslims because they are “learned people”.
....
Saleem is the main contractor for what had been planned as the stage for the Pope - right next to the separation barrier surrounding one side of the camp with a nine-metre concrete wall.
I guess the Israelis are having a Porsche shortage. Alas.
He and his colleagues were told weeks ago by the Israeli authorities that they would not be able to use that stage.
A smaller stage has been erected for the Pope just across the street in a school instead.
Despite this, Saleem says the stage next to the concrete wall was finished last night.
He said it was important to carry on building because: “This is such a great event, the size of the stage was more important than any order from the [Israeli] administration.
“They don’t want the Pope to be seen close to the wall with the world’s journalists here because this would be a disastrous thing for Israel.”
More cutting (and nipping and tucking) commentary from Sparkie Arbuckle…
Check out these cartoons - esp. the one entitled ‘Plastic surgeons without borders’.
Then check out this guy from Miami - free plastic surgery (not really, its a means to advertising ends. He calls it ‘pro bono’, but he means ‘pro boner’ as it ain’t free if he gets tons of advertising.).
Moral: Surreal cartoons = reality in America!
Titty socialism! Redistribute the titty! This year we have gained a right to houses that we cannot pay for, next year we will be taxed to make sure that we encourage proper breast inflation.
The US truly is pro-growth. If it doesn’t happen naturally, we will inflate those suckers until the bubbles are about to burst!
I don’t remember when I started ‘trolling’ here, but it was sometime in early 2006. Poofy said something today that made me want to do a post to celebrate all the offensive avatars I have used since arriving here… I don’t think I have them all, but here’s a few…
And the only avatar I have ever used actually featuring yours truly.
What’s your fav? I tend to think that the Satan-Reagan committing suicide is very blunt and effective, but I have a real softspot for the two ‘Jesus and dinosaurs’ themed ones. The one with the original artwork is probably the best, but I had to stop using it for pretend legal reasons.
You know, you go against the status quo and folks think you’re a nut bag, an aberration, a kook. Everyone should be happy and content in society—especially in a first world society like the US. Feeling unhappy for no discernible reason is a serious and troubling phenomenon. This is why many people, young and old, have turned to medications such as Wellbutrin. In fact, antidepressants became the most widely prescribed meds in the US in 2005. Wellbutrin is taken daily by millions of people.
In the elite, Ivy League, graduate and law schools, a majority of people take it. Investment bankers—a majority of them take it too. Tons of people take this stuff because they no longer take pleasure from or enjoy so-called normal activities.
My benign skepticism tells me there is something wrong when millions, literally millions, of people are taking these meds to be ‘normal’. How the eff do we gauge what normal activities we should find pleasurable when millions of people are taking this stuff?
I don’t know about you, but the millions of zombies taking this stuff creeps me out. I’ll take sadness and affect any day over a constant baseline of mild pleasure and zombie-hood. Go read your Aldous Huxley, come back… and then tell me what normal affect is. There ain’t no such thing.
Also, if you read up on this stuff, it only affects developed countries, and in high percentages. Why aren’t poor, starving people upset? What gives? What affective reactions to current societal ills are these people stifling and not sharing with us?
Why are there so many happy zombies? Do people really trust big business and Western-style doctors to know what normal affect is? Why isn’t depression, which plagues millions in our society, being added to the canon of normal affect? I am utterly confused and alarmed by all this. Perhaps someone can spell it out for me and help me excise some of the non-PC ‘zombie’ references. Until then, I cannot help but think its f*cked up. I’ll be goddammed if I am ever going to take that crap or give it to any of my kids.
...in a democracy ‘reason’ has just as much a right to be heard as ‘unreason’, especially in view of the fact that one man’s ‘reason’ is another man’s insanity. But one thing must be avoided at all costs: the special standards which define special subjects and special professions must not be allowed to permeate general education and they must not be made the defining property of a ‘well-educated person’. General education should prepare citizens to choose between the standards, or to find their way in a society that contains groups committed to various standards, but it must under no circumstances bend their minds so that they conform to the standards of one particular group.
Things are not well in the Grand Olde Partay. A new ad betrays a lack of innovation, and a tacky use of the 9/11 terrorist attacks for partisan divisiveness. See for yourself:
Perhaps the fearmongering will work, but IMHO it channels all that people do not like about Bush’s mode de l’emploi. It's truly amazing that one cannot tell the difference between GOP ads and al Qaeda promotional materials. Wow.
Boehner ‘the Boner’ is in trouble all of the sudden. ‘Spotlight Jones’ is giving him a hard time going into the next season and could prematurely ejaculate to the press about Boehner’s boners.
“Congressman Boehner continues to proudly serve Ohio’s 8th Congressional District, working hard to develop better solutions for his constituents that will create jobs, lower taxes and put our state and nation on the path to prosperity,” said Boehner spokeswoman Jessica Towhe[ad].
Again, time will tell if Jones can steal the spotlight from Bones. In other news, Miss California has come out as a anti-gay marriage stumper, drawing admiration from the far right who like their women purty and dim, toting the antiquated party lines, like que sera Sarah Palin. Palin graciously accepted stimulation from Obama just recently. Rejecting the entire package (apparently it was too big), she settled for 97%, which may still be too much for her far right constituency to swallow. Speaking off vacuums, the Detroit Lions have been sucking pretty hard recently. At 0-16, they are listening carefully to the GOP BIGWIG POWWOW which just happened. Apparently the answer is to start making more websites n stuff. Gingrich thinks they are precious little bitches.
Gingrich said RNC members “all think they’re precious, and they all think they should be taken care of, and they all think the job of the chairman, first of all, is to make the RNC members happy.”
Those expectations were part of the reason Gingrich “would not have dreamed” of running for RNC chairman. And Gingrich speculated that Steele “probably has not yet learned the art of massaging the egos of RNC members.”
Ah, the arts of massage. Something that Ted Haggard, former advisor to President Bush / preacher / hypocrite / bisexual meth user, knows all about.
“I am so ashamed that I misrepresented the body of Christ and that I hurt people and caused them pain,” Haggard said Sunday at Elevation Church. “I am so deeply embarrassed and sorry that that happened, and I don’t think that’s ever going to happen again.”
He won’t rule out a relapse. Meanwhile, a new film documents the severe hypocrisy of closeted gay Congressmen in DC.
...the gayest city in America is not San Francisco or Key West: it’s D.C. where gay pages and staffers and assistants run virtually the entire dog and pony show.
No wonder there is so much precious stroking needed from Steele! Speaking of self-hating hypocrite lawmakers, this one’s a gem:
“It’s pretty blatant - the purpose of this,” Hilton said as he held up a small glass tube with a rose in it.
....
“When they start using the glass stem, that’s when they became really addicted,” he said.
Some community activists and state leaders fear addicts could use the product that made in China as a crack pipe.
....
There’s more than one reason Whitley started focusing on the vials.
“I’m a recovering addict and 16 years ago - it was my method of choice,” he said.
Goddamn these self-hating parenting lawmakers are just too effed up. Speaking of vials...
Vials of a potentially harmful pathogen have gone missing at Fort Detrick, the Army’s main biodefense lab. But don’t freak out. The samples of Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis (VEE) virus are relatively small. The Army has found “no evidence yet of criminal misconduct,” the Washington Post reports.
After the anthrax thing, I am glad to see they have stepped up their security. (Jeez.)
TOo bad she wasn’t running against former terrorist socialist academics.
The people no longer gives a crap about Palin.
She accepted the stimulus funds (no pride I tell you!) and has recently got a twitter account (how apropos!).
She is praying ‘in tongues’ for relevancy, but apparently her witch-proofings have not worked. Confidential sources tell me she is seeking out an exorcist to treat her ‘private problem’.
Next Monday she is going to change her position yet again, blaming all 10 of her previous personalities on ‘those pesky PR folks who just don’t understand us moderates, us real Americans.’.
Oh man! What could they be talking about whilst relaxing and sippin’ on ZIMA? (Is that r108 and jimmypop I see in the background? Is zig’s stomach nice and flat or what? DocDave in an odd cameo?) I do not have anything on the forum, you’ll have to post responses here.
Governments around the world rushed on Sunday to check the spread of a new type of swine flu that has killed 20 people in Mexico and infected around a dozen in the United States.
Mexicans huddled in their homes while U.S. hospitals tracked patients with flu symptoms and other countries imposed health checks at airports as the World Health Organization warned the virus had the potential to become a pandemic.
....
The new flu strain, a mixture of various swine, bird and human viruses, poses the biggest risk of a large-scale pandemic since avian flu surfaced in 1997, killing several hundred people. A 1968 “Hong Kong” flu pandemic killed about 1 million people globally.
New flu strains can spread quickly because no one has natural immunity to them and a vaccine takes months to develop.
The italicized portion is clearly a false, or highly speculative, claim. Pig, Bird, and Human viruses… all mixed together? Makes you wonder what sort of drugs Haggard has been abusing recently, no?
Meanwhile, one of the GOPs core demographics, the midwestern and southern pig-lovers, have been dying in droves as the US DHLS launches a giant ‘condom and face-cover’ campaign to spread awareness of safe pig-lovin' practices.
“I invented safe pig-lovin',” Al Gore was consulted, “and I think its despicable that so many people wish to pretend this isn’t a CEREAL problem we are facing here. We have to take pig-lovin' CEREAL!” Speculators indicate that all this CEREAL may also cause the price of milk to go up.
Meanwhile, US officials are checking the dictionary for the exact definition of “quarantine” and “border security”.
In the crowded Mexican capital of 20 million people museums were closed and public events scrapped, from concerts to a running race. Sunday soccer matches were closed to spectators.
Locals hoarded bottled water and canned food, churchgoers were told to stay home and follow Sunday services on television and bewildered tourists were made to wear surgical face masks.
“It’s all a bit alarming because as a tourist you don’t know if you’re going to be allowed home. It’s worrying because there’s not much information,” said 29-year-old Sandy Itriago, waiting at a tour bus stop with her parents.
Nightclubs closed on Saturday night along with stadiums and cinemas. At least one open bar stationed medics at its doors to check clients’ throats and take their temperatures.
All schools in the city, Mexico State and San Luis Potosi were closed until May 6…
About five years ago, one of my best friends found out he had cancer. It was bad, but treatable. It would be expensive.
He was a house-painter. Not from a fancy family. No insurance. Hard working guy who loved his mom and brother. He had dreams. He liked to play the guitar and talk about old delta blues players. He liked girls and beer. He liked movies, especially Scorsese films. He loved to dream about making films, about love stories, how to structure a plot, classic suspense tactics, film editing tricks and techniques.
He didn’t want to be a burden to his family. He knew that money wasn’t coming out of the woodwork.
He shot himself at 25.
There are ways to make insurance available to hardworking, poor Americans under thirty that are not expensive. We should think about it. It would be unnoticeable next to all the bullshit we spend money on. If we are tending to the health of richguy’s banks, let’s help our citizens at least make it to thirty.
