The Bushes are Looking Better Already

Find it here

HillBuzz is a blog by Hillary fans

Thank you former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush

We know absolutely no one in Bush family circles and have never met former President George W. Bush or his wife Laura.

If you have been reading us for any length of time, you know that we used to make fun of “Dubya” nearly every day…parroting the same comedic bits we heard in our Democrat circles, where Bush is still, to this day, lampooned as a chimp, a bumbling idiot, and a poor, clumsy public speaker.

Oh, how we RAILED against Bush in 2000…and how we RAILED against the surge in support Bush received post-9/11 when he went to Ground Zero and stood there with his bullhorn in the ruins on that hideous day.

We were convinced that ANYONE who was president would have done what Bush did, and would have set that right tone of leadership in the wake of that disaster.  President Gore, President Perot, President Nader, you name it.  ANYONE, we assumed, would have filled that role perfectly.

Well, we told you before how much the current president, Dr. Utopia, made us realize just how wrong we were about Bush.  We shudder to think what Dr. Utopia would have done post-9/11.  He would have not gone there with a bullhorn and struck that right tone.  More likely than not, he would have been his usual fey, apologetic self and waxed professorially about how evil America is and how justified Muslims are for attacking us, with a sidebar on how good the attacks were because they would humble us.

Honestly, we don’t think President Gore would have been much better that day.  The world needed George W. Bush, his bullhorn, and his indominable spirit that day…and we will forever be grateful to this man for that.

As we will always be grateful for what George and Laura Bush did this week, with no media attention, when they very quietly went to Ft. Hood and met personally with the families of the victims of this terrorist attack.

FOR HOURS.

The Bushes went and met privately with these families for HOURS, hugging them, holding them, comforting them.

[...]

We hope someday to be able to thank George W. and Laura in person for all they’ve done, and continue to do.  They didn’t have to head to Ft. Hood.  That was not their responsibility.

The Obamas should have done that.

But didn’t.

Wouldn’t.

[...]

And we are blessed to have Dick Cheney, wherever he is, keeping tabs on all that’s going on and speaking out when the current administration does anything too reckless and dangerous.

Cheney’s someone else we villainized and maligned in the past who we were also wrong about.  There has never been a Vice President, including Gore, Biden, or Mondale, who was more supportive of gay rights than “Darth Cheney”. There has never been a Vice President more spot-on right about the dangers facing this country from Islamic terrorism.

We live in strange, strange times indeed.

We are now officially committed fans of George W. and Laura Bush.  We are fans of Dick Cheney.  Our gratitude for them makes us newly protective of them, and the continued role they play in this country.

[...]

We will never look at the Bushes, the Bush presidencies, or their legacies the same again…and someday when his presidential library is built, we will be so proud to visit there and tell anyone will listen about November 10th, 2009, the day we finally appreciated former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura.

Thank you for your service, Mr. President.  We’re sorry we didn’t appreciate you while you were in office, but we thank Heaven we’ve wised up and can see the good you are out there doing, under the radar, today.

[...]

A real, heartfelt apology, not the phony “if anybody was offended” tripe that is usual for lefties.
I’m glad that some Hillaryites are wanting to come back to America and American values.
Good for them!

A Lesson in Biofuels from Tennessee

By Jeffrey Folks

In 2007, to great fanfare and amid ever-greater expectations, a large-scale demonstration project was initiated to turn switchgrass into biofuel. For an investment of $70 million, the taxpayers of the state of Tennessee were promised a lucrative new industry that would benefit farmers and create thousands of other “green jobs.” The project, which was expected to produce five million gallons of biofuel from switchgrass within two years, would soon be fiscally self-sustaining and afford a “significant return” on investment. As the largest switchgrass demonstration project in the country, it was to have been the foundation for a whole new industry.

Sounds great, and it is just what the Tennessee legislature approved in 2007. When it began, “the University of Tennessee Biofuels Initiative,” as it is called, excited favorable comments in newspapers and media across the country. Finally, there would be a practical alternative to those nasty fossil fuels, and the great thing was that it would be produced from a hearty plant that could be grown on marginal land almost anywhere. Switchgrass was the answer to America’s dependence on foreign oil. It would restore the trade balance, boost the economy, and save the earth, all at the same time.

Now, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel, the Biofuels Initiative has reported that it is not yet producing 5 million gallons of switchgrass fuel. In fact, according to published reports, it would seem that it is not producing any fuel at all. The 250,000 gallons of ethanol that it is producing have been distilled from corn cobs—a process akin to one already quite common, if not notorious, in the state of Tennessee.

According to figures from the U.S. Department of Energy, a biofuels facility of the sort envisioned would not be feasible unless it produced five million gallons per year. But according to a report by the executive director of the Fiscal Review Committee of the Tennessee state legislature, it appears certain that the Biofuels Initiative will not be “self-sufficient,” as promised, within five years. Having initially promised that the plant would produce five million gallons with the goal of demonstrating the feasibility of switchgrass, the project director now seems to regard the initiative as a “research project.” The feasibility issue will have to wait until some time in the future.

The project has cost the state $55 million, not counting additional federal funding and state subsidies to farmers growing switchgrass. Now members of the legislature are quoted as saying that the project is “not good stewardship of taxpayer dollars” and that continued funding “may need re-evaluation.” The director of the project insists that the State Building Commission approved changes, but it appears that the legislature at large was not aware of them. Whether the legislature will continue funding the Biofuels Initiative, and at what level, will be determined after November 15.

Altogether, more than $90 million has been spent on the University of Tennessee Biofuels Initiative with no end in sight. On the national scale, tens of billions of dollars are being spent on similar alternative energy subsidies and research with little to show for it.

[...]

At that point, that $90 million spent on switchgrass research, and all of the other funds squandered on alternative energy research, would certainly come in handy, but it will be too late. China will be sitting pretty atop the world’s largest fossil fuel reserves. Americans will be sitting around hoping the wind keeps blowing.

The idea that any of the “green” projects have any real economic potential is pure fantasy.  We already have the most efficient energy sources available to us: the stored and concentrated solar energy contained in coal, oil and natural gas.

Blackouts Plague Energy-Rich Venezuela

By SIMON ROMERO

CARACAS, Venezuela — This country may be an energy colossus, with the largest conventional oil reserves outside the Middle East and one of the world’s mightiest hydroelectric systems, but that has not prevented it from enduring serious electricity and water shortages that seem only to be getting worse.

Power failures have plagued Venezuela in recent years. At the Caracas home where María Gabriela Cabeza Pompa, 5, sat with her cousin Andrea Acosta, 9, blackouts damaged the TV.

President Hugo Chávez has been facing a public outcry in recent weeks over power failures that, after six nationwide blackouts in the last two years, are cutting electricity for hours each day in rural areas and in industrial cities like Valencia and Ciudad Guayana. Now, water rationing has been introduced here in the capital.

The deterioration of services is perplexing to many here, especially because the country had grown used to cheap, plentiful electricity and water in recent decades. But even as the oil boom was enriching his government and Mr. Chávez asserted greater control over utilities and other industries in this decade, public services seemed only to decay, adding to residents’ frustrations.

With oil revenues declining and the economy slowing, the shortages may have no quick fixes in sight. The government announced some emergency measures this week, including limits on imports of air-conditioning systems, rate increases for consumers of large amounts of power and the building of new gas-fired power plants, which would not be completed until the middle of the next decade.

[...]

In response, the president is embarking on his own crusade: pushing Venezuelans to conserve by mocking their consumption habits.

He began his critique last month with the amount of time citizens spent under their shower heads, saying three-minute showers were sufficient. “I’ve counted and I don’t end up stinking,” he said. “I guarantee it.”

Then he went after the country’s ubiquitous love motels and shopping malls, accusing them of waste. “Buy your own generator,” he threatened, “or I’ll cut off your lights.” He similarly laid blame with “oligarchs,” a frequently used insult here for the rich, for overconsumption of water in gardens and swimming pools.

Mr. Chávez is even going after his countrymen’s expanding waistlines. “Watch out for the fat people,” he said last month, citing a study finding a jump in obesity. “Time to lose weight through dieting and exercise.”

While Mr. Chávez zeroes in on such issues, Venezuela’s declining public services offer what may be a view into the “resource curse”: the idea that some countries with abundant natural resources have societies hampered by sometimes sharp political discord, stunted growth and glaring inefficiencies.

On paper, at least, Venezuela should be swimming in surplus power. The country has huge reserves of oil and natural gas and sizable coal deposits. Its Guri dam complex, built with postwar oil riches in the 1960s, ranks as one of the world’s largest hydroelectric projects.

[...]

Most significant, though, may be the government’s failure to use its immense natural gas reserves, the second largest in the Western Hemisphere after those of the United States, to fuel existing power plants.

[...]

As a result, there is a disconnect between Venezuela’s energy potential and its ability to keep the lights on. Billboards here extol a “natural gas revolution” and the prowess demonstrated by a satellite put into orbit last year with China’s assistance, while daily blackouts plague poor areas where the satellite was supposed to help provide phone and Internet services.

“The problem isn’t a lack of money,” said Víctor Poleo, a former Energy Ministry official under Mr. Chávez. “It’s the irresponsible and corrupt militarism that has replaced the professionalism of the industry.”

Meanwhile, homes and businesses across the country are adapting to the erratic supply of power and, here in Caracas, of water. Sales of small generators, candles and water storage tanks are surging. Reflecting the unease of the already strained industrial base, which developed around access to ample and cheap power, Sidor, a steel maker in Ciudad Guayana, said it was shutting down its furnaces five hours a day because of the cuts.

“If this crisis teaches us something,” said Fernando Branger, an energy expert at the Institute of Superior Administration Studies, a Caracas business school, “it is that the immensity of our energy reserves means nothing if we cannot even get them out of the ground.”

This is where Obama wants to take America.  As opposed to the free enterprise system, which increases supply to meet demand, and creates wealth by doing it, collectivism seeks to decrease demand to meet supply, thus ensuring poverty for everyone outside of the ruling elite.

Baltimore mayor’s trial set to begin
Dixon faces seven theft-related counts, another trial in March

Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon is accused of buying personal items using gift cards donated to her office.

By The Baltimore Sun
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, November 11, 2009

The jury of nine women and three men chosen for Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon’s trial on theft charges will begin work Thursday, but first a judge will weigh new allegations involving another batch of gift cards said to have been donated by a developer not previously named in the case.

Two city developers, Patrick Turner and Ronald H. Lipscomb, have been identified as potential witnesses in the case, and a defense motion filed Tuesday reveals that prosecutors want a third developer to testify. The mayor is accused of buying personal items with at least $1,500 in retail gift cards donated to her office for use by needy families.

The newly named developer, Glenn Charlow, donated gift cards to Dixon to be used “in connection with her church activities,” according to papers filed in court by the mayor’s attorneys in an effort to block his testimony.

Dixon’s attorneys object to the new testimony because, they say, prosecutors interviewed Charlow in June 2008 but did not disclose key information until Friday, on the eve of the trial.

[...]

Dixon, 55, faces seven theft-related counts in this trial. She is also scheduled to stand trial in March on perjury charges. In that case, she is accused of failing to disclose gifts from Lipscomb, her former boyfriend. At the time, she was president of the City Council, and Lipscomb was doing business with the city.

If convicted on any charge in either case, Dixon would have to step down and would lose her annual $83,000 pension. She could also face a fine or jail time.

[...]

A half-hour later, as she left, Dixon was asked whether it was awkward to attend public events while on trial.

“I’m the mayor of the city,” she said. “I represent the city. I love going out to events. I don’t feel awkward at all. You might feel awkward, but that is on you.”

Right.  This is an accusation at this point, but the real significance is that her Party affiliation is never mentioned in the source article.
Had a Republican done this, he or she would be indentified with Party affiliation, along with the assumption that the accusations were true.  Furthermore, a Republican would have already resigned, where this Dem has no shame, and arrogantly declares how much she enjoys the perks of her political position.
What a contrast in values!

Confessions of an ObamaCare Backer - A liberal explains the political calculus.

Find it here

The typical argument for ObamaCare is that it will offer better medical care for everyone and cost less to do it, but occasionally a supporter lets the mask slip and reveals the real political motivation. So let’s give credit to John Cassidy, part of the left-wing stable at the New Yorker, who wrote last week on its Web site that “it’s important to be clear about what the reform amounts to.”

Mr. Cassidy is more honest than the politicians whose dishonesty he supports. “The U.S. government is making a costly and open-ended commitment,” he writes. “Let’s not pretend that it isn’t a big deal, or that it will be self-financing, or that it will work out exactly as planned. It won’t. What is really unfolding, I suspect, is the scenario that many conservatives feared. The Obama Administration . . . is creating a new entitlement program, which, once established, will be virtually impossible to rescind.”

Why are they doing it? Because, according to Mr. Cassidy, ObamaCare serves the twin goals of “making the United States a more equitable country” and furthering the Democrats’ “political calculus.” In other words, the purpose is to further redistribute income by putting health care further under government control, and in the process making the middle class more dependent on government. As the party of government, Democrats will benefit over the long run.

[...]

No wonder many Americans are upset. They know they are being lied to about ObamaCare, and they know they are going to be stuck with the bill.

CNN Misquotes Ft. Hood Private to Cast Doubt on Cries of ‘Allahu Akbar’

By Lachlan Markay

CNN misquoted a soldier at Fort Hood who was wounded in last week’s shooting to suggest that the soldier’s recollection that Major Hasan shouted “Allahu Akbar” before firing was in doubt. Many in the media have been doing their best to downplay evidence suggesting Hasan was acting in accordance with radical Muslim beliefs.

“I was sitting in about the second row back when the assailant stood up and yelled ‘Allahu Akbar’ in Arabic and he opened fire,” Pvt. Joseph Foster recalled yesterday on CNN’s “American Morning”

[...]

To which Foster replied with all of the modesty one might expect from a 21-year-old Army private: “I had realized it at first, but with that much adrenaline, you tend to forget things.” It should go without saying that Foster was noting that with his adrenaline pumping, he did not immediately realize that he had been shot.

But CNN, in its written report on the interview, quoted him completely out of context in an effort to dismiss his claim that Hasan shouted “Allahu Akbar”. “Foster, 21, said he wasn’t clear about whether the gunman said those exact words, noting that ‘with that much adrenaline, you tend to forget things,’ ” CNN reported.

Some might claim that if Foster’s adrenaline rush could cause him to forget he had been shot, surely he could have heard Hasan wrong. But Foster heard the cry before he was wounded. It could not have been distorted by the adrenaline that follows a gunshot wound, as no shots had been fired when Hasan screamed the call to jihad.

CNN’s blatant distortion of Foster’s account seems to be an attempt to downplay any evidence that Hasan was acting out of a radical Islamist hatred of the United States military. The cable news network is terrified of the “backlash” that could ensue against Muslims in the military (even though it hasn’t), but doesn’t seem to have much concern for the facts surrounding the deaths of 13 of our men and women in uniform.

Once again, the Dem Ministry of Propaganda has been caught manufacturing the news.
Pathetic and dishonest.  We deserve better than this from those who claim to be a “news network”.

First Day Contrast: Olbermann Called Tiller Shooting ‘Terrorism’ and a ‘Jihad,’ But Avoided Those Terms for Fort Hood

By Tim Graham

On June 1 of this year, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann devoted most of his hour of Countdown to his withering outrage at the shooting of late-term abortionist George Tiller in Kansas (and how it was caused by Fox News).

The tone was dramatically different than his tone on November 5, the night of the Islamic terrorist shooting rampage at Fort Hood in Texas. Here’s Olbermann’s very dry opening: “Nightmare at Fort Hood: How could a soldier kill at least 12 other soldiers and wounded at least 31 more? And why?”

Here are words that Olbermann did not use on that first night last week: jihad, fundamentalist, crusaders, extremists, terrorism, zealot, Taliban, Hamas, al-Qaeda. All of these, however, were used in the first seconds of the Tiller show in June. That began this way:

Domestic terrorism: Dr. George Tiller—women’s health physician, performer of legal abortions—is assassinated in his church. And in the very same sentence, anti-choice zealots wash their hands of his murder and say he had it coming.

After all the promotional lingo, Olbermann grew even hotter:

A religious jihad by fundamentalist crusaders who believe that murder is justified, their acts of violence having the intended effect of changing behavior. Our fifth story on the Countdown: Not the Taliban, not Hamas, not al Qaeda. If the brutal murder of Dr. George Tiller—the Wichita OB/GYN who, among many other things, provided abortions—does not qualify as an act domestic terrorism, what does?

When comparing the two programs, it’s quite apparent that Olbermann has a lot more ardor and distaste for conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Michelle Bachmann than he does for Major Hasan. In fact, the Fort Hood shooting was demoted to story number four (it also got second billing in the show’s introduction), so he could lead with the conservative-bashing:

[...]

Olbermann also saved his “Worst Person in the World” awards for Rush Limbaugh (Worser) and Rupert Murdoch (Worst). Bizarrely, there was no room in that contest for the mass murderer of 13 Americans.

Olbermann failed to close the show with any suggestion of thoughts or prayers or gratitude for the lost at Fort Hood. He was stuck in conservative-bashing mode:

  [...]

Fort Hood Suspect Warned of Muslim Threat Within Military

Find it here

The Army psychiatrist suspected of killing 13 people at Fort Hood reportedly warned senior Army physicians in 2007 that the military should allow Muslim soldiers to be released as conscientious objectors instead of fighting in wars to avoid “adverse events.”

According to The Washington Post, Major Nidal Malik Hasan was supposed to make a presentation on a medical topic during his senior year as a psychiatric resident at Walter Reed Medical Center.

Instead, Hasan lectured his supervisors and two dozen mental health staff members on Islam, homicide bombings and threats the military could encounter from Muslims conflicted about fighting against other Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A source who attended the presentation told the paper, “It was really strange. The senior doctors looked really upset.”

The Powerpoint, entitled, “The Koranic World View As It Relates to Muslims in the U.S. Military,” consisted of 50 slides, according to a copy obtained by the Post.

“It’s getting harder and harder for Muslims in the service to morally justify being in a military that seems constantly engaged against fellow Muslims,” Hasan said in the presentation.

Under a slide titled “Comments,” he wrote: “If Muslim groups can convince Muslims that they are fighting for God against injustices of the ‘infidels’; ie: enemies of Islam, then Muslims can become a potent adversary ie: suicide bombing, etc.” [sic]

The last bullet point on that page reads simply: “We love death more then [sic] you love life!”

On the final slide, labeled “Recommendation,” Hasan wrote: “Department of Defense should allow Muslims [sic] Soldiers the option of being released as ‘Conscientious objectors’ to increase troop morale and decrease adverse events.”

[...]

A classmate of Hasan, meanwhile, told FoxNews.com that the warning signs were all there — the justification of homicide bombings; spewing anti-American hatred; efforts to reach out to Al Qaeda — but that the military treated Hasan with kid gloves, even after giving him a poor performance review.

And though he was on the radar screen of at least one U.S. intelligence agency, no action was taken that might have prevented the Army psychiatrist from allegedly gunning down 13 people and wounding 29 others in the Fort Hood massacre last week.

“There were definitely clear indications that Hasan’s loyalties were not with America,” Lt. Col. Val Finnell, Hasan’s classmate at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. He and Hasan were students in the school’s public health master’s degree program from 2007-2008.

“The issue here is that there’s a political correctness climate in the military. They don’t want to say anything because it would be considered questioning somebody’s religious belief, or they’re afraid of an equal opportunity lawsuit.

Owens Breaks 4 Campaign Promises in first hour in Congress

Written by Nathan Barker

GOUVERNEUR, NY - Congressman-elect Bill Owens was sworn in at noon today.

Owens indicated in a press release released shortly afterwards that he was now in favor of the the “Affordable Healthcare for America Act” bill in direct contrast to his earlier position during the election campaign.

According to Politico.com, Mr. Owens assured voters that he felt the public option had no place in the health care reform bill.  Contrary to that position, Mr. Owens now indicates that he intends to vote in favor of the bill even though it now contains a public option.

UPDATED: A spokesman for Congressman Owens indicated correctly that Mr. Owens had recanted his solid position against public option later in the campaign, clarifying that he did not wish public option to be a ‘litmus test’ for the Health Reform bill and that on Oct. 30th, several days prior to the election, in a debate had stated that he generally supported the public option as it was now written (at that time.)

Mr. Owens also indicated during his campaign that he was firmly opposed to cutting Medicare benefits, taxing health care benefits, and increased taxes on the middle class in any way as you can see clearly in the screenshot below, taken directly from Mr. Owens’ campaign website.

The House Health reform bill contains sections that cut Medicare benefits, tax existing health care benefits, and increases taxes on the middle class, yet Mr. Owens stated today that he will now vote in favor of those things contrary to what he had promised the voters of NY’s 23rd Congressional District that he would vote against.

Mr. Owens indicated in his press release today that “This legislation will reform the insurance industry and provide increased access to affordable healthcare without taxing healthcare benefits, cutting Medicare benefits or raising taxes on the middle class, and that is exactly the direction we need to go.”

When The Gouverneur Times attempted to contact Mr. Owens to clarify this information, we received no direct response to our phone or email inquiries.  Both FactCheck.org and the Congressional Budget Office agree that HR 3962 contains potentially hundreds of billions of dollars in planned cuts to Medicare, yet Mr. Owens indicates that he supports this legislation and says that it does not cut Medicare benefits.  Either Mr. Owens has been snowed or the public is about to be.

HR 3962 also includes a range of various taxes on middle-class families as well as language to repeal tax relief already in place.  Has Congressman Owens blindly followed Ms. Pelosi’s rhetoric in believing that the end to a tax cut is not the same thing as an increase in taxes or is he hedging his bet with very carefully chosen words?

HR 3962 now also contains language that allows illegal immigrants to be covered under the legislation.  When The Gouverneur Times attempted to contact Mr. Owens for clarification of this language, we received no response other than the press release heretofore mentioned.  Specifically, we asked if illegal immigrants would be forced to purchase healthcare insurance as citizens will be and whether or not they would be forced to do so at standard rates or if they would qualify for the public option subsidy.

[...]

In a speech made to Congress a short time ago, President Obama had stated that the bill would not contain support for illegal immigrants - a statement for which he was called a “liar” by Rep. Joe Wilson.  Rep. Wilson was severely chastised for his comment at the time though it would now seem to be true.

The mixed-up mess that was the 23rd Congressional District Special Election was a close race between Democrat Bill Owens and Conservative Doug Hoffman.  Many feel that it was unlikely Mr. Owens would have won those crucial few thousand votes if the voting public was aware of his intent with regard to the Health Care bill.  The majority of residents in this district do not support the Health Reform bill as it is now written and many feel like they’ve become victims of a fraud perpetrated by their chosen candidate.

Breaking campaign promises is not unusual for politicians… it’s a cliche.  This is almost certainly a record though.  Mr. Owens broke no less than 4 promises in his first 24 hours in office.

After the election, when he got the power, Owens, like Obama, shows his true colors.
This is what you get when you vote for a Dem.

Bush or Obama: The Quiz

By Randall Hoven

1. President Bush was famous for lacking “intellectual curiosity,” while President Obama has been called “the smartest guy ever to become President.” Who reads more books: Bush or Obama?

2. Bush was often considered to be in the grip of Big Oil. In contrast, Obama is a Harvard-educated lawyer. Which industry contributed more than five times as much as the other to politicians: the oil & gas industry, or lawyers/law firms?

3. Bush’s Christian faith was at the core of his political identity, and he was considered to be in the grip of the “religious right,” while Obama is considered more open-minded. In fact, Obama has said, “my faith is one that admits some doubt.” Which one refers to Jesus more in public speeches?

4. Bush was criticized for excessive federal spending and running up huge deficits.  Bush’s deficit in 2008 was the largest in history.  In fact, President Obama said,

It’s a little hard for me to take criticism from folks about this recovery package after they’ve presided over a doubling of the national debt ... What I won’t do is return to the failed theories of the last eight years that got us into this fix in the first place.

Whose deficit was more than triple the size of the other’s: Bush’s in 2008 or Obama’s in 2009?

5. While Obama criticized Bush for “a doubling of the national debt,” the federal debt held by the public went from 35.1% of GDP in 2000 to 40.8% of GDP in 2008—an increase of 16% as of fraction of GDP. What is it expected to be in 2016 under Obama’s budget plan?

6.  Obama criticized Bush for Guantanamo, military tribunals, wiretaps, troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and “signing statements.” Which one of these Bush practices has Obama ended?

Answers:

1. Bush. Obama started reading a book in April and had not finished it by June, putting him on a pace of no more than ten books per year. Bush read forty to ninety-five books a year while President, not counting a new and complete reading of the Bible every year. Bush scored 1206 on his SAT, putting his IQ in the 125-130 range, smarter than 95% of the population and in the company of Lincoln, Rousseau, and Thackeray. He graduated from Yale and earned an MBA from Harvard. Obama earned a law degree from Harvard, but has not released any of his academic records. Despite what you might have heard, we know nothing of his IQ, test scores, or grades from any of the schools he attended.

British spies help prevent al Qaeda-inspired attack on New York subway

The plan, which reportedly would have been the biggest attack on America since 9/11, was uncovered after Scotland Yard intercepted an email.

The force alerted the FBI, who launched an operation which led to airport shuttle bus driver Najibullah Zazi, 24, being charged with conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction.
The Afghan is alleged to have been part of a group who used stolen credit cards to buy components for bombs including nail varnish remover.

The chemicals bought were similar to those used to make the 2005 London Tube and bus explosives which killed 52 people.

Zazi, from Denver, Colorado, is understood to have been given instructions by a senior member of al Qaeda in Pakistan over the internet.

The alleged plot was unmasked after an email address that was being monitored as part of the abortive Operation Pathway was suddenly reactivated.

A British security source told The Sun: “This was excellent work and highlights the fact we produce good information.

”(The US authorities) were delighted with the intelligence we gave them and believe it helped prevent a catastrophic attack.”

AP: ObamaCare May Be DOA in the Senate!

Big question mark: Fate of health care in Senate

By RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR (AP) – 2 hours ago

WASHINGTON — The glow from a health care triumph faded quickly for President Barack Obama on Sunday as Democrats realized the bill they fought so hard to pass in the House has nowhere to go in the Senate.

Speaking from the Rose Garden about 14 hours after the late Saturday vote, Obama urged senators to be like runners on a relay team and “take the baton and bring this effort to the finish line on behalf of the American people.”

The problem is that the Senate won’t run with it. The government health insurance plan included in the House bill is unacceptable to a few Democratic moderates who hold the balance of power in the Senate.

[...]

“The House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said dismissively.

Democrats did not line up to challenge him. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has yet to schedule floor debate and hinted last week that senators may not be able to finish health care this year.

[...]

Lieberman said he opposes the public plan because it could become a huge and costly entitlement program. “I believe the debt can break America and send us into a recession that’s worse than the one we’re fighting our way out of today,” he said.

Good news for America!

As the Clock Struck Midnight the Left Rejoiced

Monte Kuligowski

H.R. 3200 didn’t make it to a House vote. So the Democrats doubled the size of the bill by adding another thousand pages of bureaucratic madness, imposed a mandate on purchasing insurance, cut $400 billion in Medicare to partially pay for it, and passed it at the midnight hour on a Saturday. Here are the results (220-215) for the roll call vote on H.R. 3962.

Regardless of whether H.R. 3962 survives and merges with the Senate’s proposal, I believe the clock has struck midnight for the Dems. The Democrats and their colleagues in the news media are misreading the will of the American people in a major way.

The cry, “Read the bill!” obviously has not resonated with 219 members of the ruling Democrat Party. The average citizen wanted the bill to be read and debated prior to voting. And some are wondering if they missed the promised C-Span debates.

On the morning after its passage, Chris Mathews, revealing the tone of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid coalition, dismissed the Bachmann protesters as “wing nuts” several times. I have a feeling the protests in this country have only just begun.
