I rarely post my own opinions, but events of the last three months compel me to speak up.
The outrage and frustration of the left regarding Tea Parties and the challenges taking place at townhall meetings across the country is beginning to show.
The president’s declining poll numbers coupled with a gradual increase in the approval ratings for the GOP is worrisome to them.
Red herrings are being tossed around by the White House like candy: The president is recieving 40 death threats a day! Protesters at health care townhall meetings are paid surrogates of the insurance industry! The Republican Party is a collection of ‘birther’ loonies! ...and so on.
Yet, in the real world, liberal democrat governor John Corzine of NJ is way, way behind in the polls. A republican candidate in Delaware won a state senate seat in a solidly democratic district. Arlen Spector is in serious, serious trouble in Pennsylvania. A republican is headed toward the Governor’s mansion in Virginia. The people of Maine submitted a referendum petition with TWICE the required number of signatures to put homosexual ‘marriage’ on the ballot.
Liberal shills who blog at SAB are raising silly, even hysterical issues: “Good Job Nutters Thanks A Lot”, or this gem, “The Alabama Economic Miracle”. Lacking anything genuinely substantive, they resort to “assassins”, “nutters”, “stems”, “savages”, and the like.
All of this is happening because there is a genuine mood-shift taking place; a lifting of the fog; a national awakening from the Bush Derangement Syndrome of the election and the realization that the Hope & Change of the campaign has morphed into the Hype and Chagrin of an administration run amok in Washington. Obama remains popular, but his ideas do not, as Boston policeman Crowley can attest to.
The GOP is beginning to find it’s voice again. The grassroots movement is alive and well and John Q. Public is listening more carefully. John McCain, who lost the election, has not lost his voice and will vote no on Sotomayor. RNC Chairman Michael Steele is beginning to live up to his name.
After the despair of ‘06 and ‘08, Republicans are beginning to hit their stride. There is genuine excitement about the off-year election in 2010. Much, much more remains to be done. There will be keen disappointments, but the message is clear… Keep it up!
