A Winning Plan For November

This morning Glenn Beck commented that at one time or another he has been a social conservative or a fiscal conservative. Now he is both.

This afternoon Rush Limbaugh told a listener that, “Barack Obama must not be allowed anywhere near 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue”.  He stopped short of explaining how that could be done.

Like many, he cannot bring himself to say that the only way to stop Obama is the election of Senator McCain.

In today’s Washington Times, Tom Delay (R) of Texas analyzed why the right is in a losing mode and a downward spiral.

After considering these sources and the many positions outlined on SAB and other blogs, I come to the following strategy for winning in November.

1.  Go out and get every sensible person we know registered as a republican and then make sure they vote. The dems have been building their voter-rolls at the grass-roots for the last 3 years.

2.  Engage every potential voter we know who is anywhere on our side of the fence. Stop applying strict conservative litmus-tests to people who could help us in the cause.

3.  Open up our wallets! Campaigns are won on money and votes.  The liberals are swimming in both.

4.  Stop pointing the blame-finger. It won’t help.

5.  Accept the fact that we don’t have a presidential candidate who is strong on energy or immigration. Focus on the fact that he is strong on the war, federal court appointments, the 2nd Amendment, Right to Life, lower taxes and smaller government.  We could do worse.

6.  Stop attacking each other and our candidates and go after the real enemy…  Senator Barack Obama and the liberals.  Give up the false idea that 4 years of Obama will make everyone wake up.

7.  Work to get republicans in office at every level where we can help make it happen; city councils, state and county governments, congress and the White House.

8.  Wake up and smell the coffee.  We are in an all-out war for the future of this country. The liberals smell victory like never before and they mean to transform our culture if they win.

9.  Get real.  There is no point in our daily assaults on Obama and the liberals if we turn right around and shoot our own candidates in the foot at the same time.

10 Get over the defeatist attitude. We are not  “so screwed”!  People want  a reason to vote republican.  It’s time we unify our brain-power and and our party and give them a reason.  The alternative is unthinkable.

Tom Delay: It Will Take Years To Rebuild The Party

Tom Delay, former republican power-broker in congress, says the GOP and conservatives failed to adapt to the new realities of the McCain/Feingold campaign laws, while the democrats and liberals did.

Delay believes that republicans have not hit bottom yet following their losses in ‘06 and that it will take years to rebuild the party and it’s base.

The conservatives refuse to accept that the left is cleaning thier clock and until you hit some bottom, wherever that is, to where it says, “Well, maybe we aught to do something different, little or nothing is going to change.”

Delay argues that the left has mastered the art of using independent groups, while republicans lag far behind, still focused on a party-based strategy that can’t compete.

They’re living with 10 - 15 year old technology. They still believe if you raise enough money, go on television enough, you’re going to win. Those days are over.

Delay will spearhead an effort to bring together different conservative groups, but admits the process will be slow and new leaders will have to emerge.

Delay will vote for John McCain but says his wife may vote for Bob Barr, Libertarian.

In short, while conservatives cursed the McCain/Feingold legislation, liberals sat down, studied it and learned to adjust. The GOP and conservatives failed to adapt to the new realities, are losing the war of words and ideas and must find new ways to package their message.

Maryland High School Students Must Study Islam Says Textbook Group

FOXNEWS and the New York Examiner are reporting that, starting next year, students in the People’s Republic of Maryland will be required to study a ‘softened’ version of Islam.

There will be no mention of war or violence on the subject of jihad, and “inconvenient truths” about sharia law will be expunged.

Montogemery County Schools, apparently bowing to pressure from Muslim groups, is providing the mandatory curriculum as the “politically correct” thing to do.

Barr Selects Professional Gambler As Running Mate

Wayne Root’s website clams he is now Bob Barr’s running mate on the Libertarian ticket. His credentials? He’s a professional gambler.

An excellent choice actually, since anyone who wastes their vote on either is doing just that… gambling on the nation’s future!

The New Battle of Britain: Doctors Oppose Socialized Health Care As Cruel And Perverse

There’s a follow-up in today issue of The Times regarding my recent post on how the NHS, Britain’s National Health Service, murdered Linda O’Boyle, a cancer patient.

More and more physicians in the UK are expressing their outrage at the NHS policy - a policy vigorously supported by Alan Johnson, Health Secretary - to deny services to any person who, using their own funds, seeks treatments or medicines above and beyond those provided by NHS.

Johnson’s argument is that if patients are allowed to supplement NHS services out of their own pocket, it creates a two-tier system in which those who can afford to do so, get better care than those who can’t.

In other words, everyone must be prepared to die equally in the name of socialized medicine.

The Times is reporting several more deaths caused by NHS and Johnson’s draconian, bureaucratic policies. Sandra Baker, a bowel cancer victim, was denied further treatment when she scraped together enough money to purchase a cancer drug not provided by NHS, but recommended by her NHS doctor!  She died a few months later.

The late John Burrell, told that he would have to retroactively pay for all of his NHS care because he too had purchased treatment outside the system, became so fearful that he would not be able to pay his bills to NHS, that he fatally delayed further treatment.

Now physicians, doctors and the Royal College of Surgeons, led by Baroness Iiora Finlay, are demanding that the NHS revise it’s policies.

Of course, revision isn’t really the issue or the solution. Control of people’s very lives is the issue! Britains were far better off before NHS and should never have allowed government-controlled health care - a major plank in Barack Obama’s campaign - to be imposed on them.

OMG!! Another Dem In Trouble

Associated Press * June 6 2008

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md: Federal agents siezed bank records, tax statements and correspondence, and found marijuana during a search at the home of state Sen. Ulysses Currie, (D), according to court documents.

The documents show agents found marijuana and “drug packaging materials” in a bag on a dresser and in other bags on the floor of a room in the house last week.

Currie, 70, is one of the most influential lawmakers in Maryland.

A Second Open Letter To John McCain

Dear Senator John McCain:

The primaries are now over and the battle lines are drawn. For better or for worse, you are now the standard-bearer for the Republican Party and our last, best hope to halt the Obama juggernaught. You and we are in the fight of our lives. Barack Obama is a formidable candidate. He is a uniquely gifted orator and he has the prevailing mood of the nation behind him. His adoption of the slogan ‘Change’ was a brilliant move.

Your challenge in this race is daunting. You must convince the nation that you are the right man to be president of The United State at a time when the GOP is out of favor, and you must heal the sharp divisions in your own party over it’s fractured ideology and you, yourself!

I do not presume to speak for anyone other than myself, but in my humble opinion, you can and must take the following steps to unite the party and the country and win this race.

1.  Take the gloves off. Go after Senator Barack Obama in a civil but thoroughly aggressive campaign, for he and his minions will savage you relentlessly.

2.  At every opportunity, define the vital differences between him and you. Inform us and the nation in clear terms why his presidency would be a disaster.

3.  Hammer home the message that character and experience matters; that who you choose to call your associates and mentors for twenty years matters.

4.  We are painfully aware that you are not a conservative in the classic sense of that word. But you can and do appeal to us on a number of key issues:  The war on terror, the federal bench and the Supreme Court, the 2nd Amendment, Right to Life issues and lower taxes. Remind us constantly that you mean to defend those issues without flinching.

5. Where possible, rethink your energy policy as it relates to environmental issues. We need to hear you say uniquivocally that you favor tapping our own oil and coal resources, including ANWR, and that you want to make us free of dependence on foreign markets and ‘global warming’ hysteria.

6. Be visible and affirmative in your support of republican candidates across our land. Never forget - as you have said - that this election is not just about you.

7. Finally, understand, as we do, that your choice of running mate is of paramount importance. The person you select could do much to heal divisions within our ranks and convince Americans that you are more than just another politican; that you are the statesman many of us believe you to be.

Senator McCain, remember that many in your own party are skeptical of you, but don’t flinch and don’t pander! Lead us. In the next 150 days, if we become convinced that you are the right man for this job, our efforts on your behalf can and will be formidable.

We know, as you surely must, that this election, more than any other in recent memory, represents a turning-point in our nation’s political fortunes. The stakes are high! We wish you well.

Rush Just Said It….

Today, while Rush was talking with a caller, he opined the following:  “After November, the Democrats will fill the federal bench with liberal judges and the bureaucracy with their cronies.  That way, they won’t have to worry about the future make-up of congress.  They can just make laws in the courts for years to come.”

[WARNING!  A paraphrase, but I hope an honest and accurate one.]

Food for thought for conservatives and republicans.

GOP Fears Massive Defeat In November

In a wide-ranging article, Washington Times writer S.A. Miller sees the potential for massive losses by the republicans in congress and the loss of the White House.

Focused on comments by voters, observations by Newt Gingrich and predictions by Rep. Chris Van Hollen, (D) MD, Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Miller paints a gloomy scenario in which disaffected republicans and bitter conservatives will simply “stay home” or vote democrat, giving the Dems a potentially historic margin of victory in November.

Considering that much of the article is reminiscent of observations made right here on SAB over the last 6 months, one could well ponder whether a sweeping victory by the left would inevitably mean sweeping changes in the way Washington does business for years to come.

Read and weep - or cheer - depending on your take on this election year.

The Sad Case of Linda O’Boyle

Linda O’Boyle is dead of cancer at age 64. Her death certificate says so. But the truth is, she was killed by the NHS, Great Britian’s National Health Service, and Alan Johnson, the Health Secretary.

O’Boyle, while being treated under England’s socialized medicine scheme, committed a fatal error.  Desperate for a cure, she sought and paid for private medical care and purchased a drug for her condition not available from the NHS.

Outraged, the NHS and Johnson ruled that if she could afford to purchase any private care, then she would have to pay for all of her care provided by the NHS.

She could not, and the NHS let her die.

Johnson’s response was cold and marxist:
Co-payment would create a two-tier NHS, with preferential treatment for patients who could afford the extra drugs.

[Emphasis on afford]

By their very nature, national health care schemes are socialist bureaucracies run by bureaucratic socialist pin-heads whose highest priority is always “One Size Fits All”, and whose hidden agenda is to always punish those with means; the rich !!

Considering that National Health Care is near the top of Barack Obaba’s to-do list once he is in the White House, voters might do well to keep the late Linda O’boyle - and themselves - in their thoughts and prayers.

The Slow, Steady Implosion of Barack Obama

Here is a man who said from the outset that he was not politics as usual. From the start, Senator Obama presented himself as a fresh, new face with a gift for oratory and armed with the audacity of hope. No less a personage than Oprah Winfrey - whose own fortunes are now suffering - stumped for him.

But from the beginning, those who watched and listened carefully to Barack Obama - free from the messiah-complex which seemed to affect so many of his adoring followers - saw something quite different.

Here was a socialist, plain and simple, and a newbie whose own personal traits and experience - much less his political acumen - seemed fragile and contrived.

There was the ‘sweetie’ gaff.  The silliness about his uncle liberating Auschwitz.  The 57 states thing and the eyebrow-raising endorsement from Hammas.

But there was more, much more. There was his off-camera analysis of rural white Americans as bitter people clinging desperately to their guns and bibles.

There was his stunning pronouncement that he would hold unconditional talks with America’s enemies.

From the beginning he has firmly maintained that the war was a mistake and that he would bring the troops home, apparently without regard for the consequences.

His wife publicly stated that for the first time in her life she was proud to be an American.

He has declared that as president he will names judges and justices who ‘empathize’ with the plight of the little guy.

In an effort to clarify his position on race, he defined his own grandmother as a racist, thus throwing her under the bus.

He has embraced and then denounced his life-time mentor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

He has defended and now withdrawn from Trinity United Church of Christ, his spiritual home for 20 years where - to the utter amazement of many - he managed never to have heard the blatantly racist sermons of it’s rector.

He has unexplained, long-term associations with socialists and radicals the likes of William Ayers, co- chairman of the Woods fund with Obama and Father Pfleger, chairman of Catholics for Obama until his hasty resignation yesterday.

In his brief tenure in the senate, Barack Obama has earned a 100% rating from the ADA for his liberal voting pattern.

Add to this, the disturbing sense that when he is not orating, but responding in Q & A sessions or interviews, Obama frequently flounders, seeming uncertain when unscripted.

No doubt others can and will add to this list. But as the weeks and months go by, the once monolithic campaign of Barack Obama seems more and more a devious and deceptive paper tiger and less and less the audacity of hope.

UN Praises Progress In Iraq

Almost overlooked today in the McClellan book controversy is this shocker. UN chief Ban Ki-Moon praised the progress being made in Iraq.

Iraq is stepping back from the abyss that we feared most.

What is troubling here, is the failure of the main-stream media to pay any attention whatever to a completely unbiased - indeed, frequently critical - source on the current progress in Iraq.

If Ki-Moon had savaged conditions in Iraq or blasted the United States, it would have been front-page news in the NYT and WP.

Al Queda To Call for WMD Against The West

Drudge is currently headlining an ABC News bulletin which says that in the next 24 hours, Al Queda will release a tape calling for “jihadists to use biological, chemical and nuclear weapons against the West.” There's more and it's scary.

http://www.drudgereport.com

John McCain may not be all things to all conservatives, but on the most critical issue of all - the very survival of our nation and our way of life - he is the only candidate.

Unless folks think that Obama can talk our way out of the coming showdown.
