How our Veterans SHOULD be Treated

We as a country are not treating our returning veterans right. They are coming back from war without a Job, without a future, without limbs sometimes, under stress, and many end up homeless.

Our private sector is not responding to the cause. Without a private sector to respond, we need to at least make the public sector a place where these defenders of our freedoms can make a living.

It used to be that if you were a vet you were nearly automatically hired in a public sector job. Now it’s minorities. I want our vets to take all precedent over anyone from the country or city no matter what in any public job. If we are providing a free living for those who know how to work the welfare system in the city or those who know how to work the welfare system in the country otherwise known as farm subsidies, then we need to see to it that first the needs of those who served and the families of those who didn't return know that we are a grateful country.

It’s veterans day, my hat is off and my thanks is real. It's time to do right by them all.

Merck, The Lawyers and McDonalds

The big headline in the business news today is that Merck company has settled with 47,000 plaintiffs regarding it’s Vioxx which according to the plaintiffs caused heart attacks.  That at first blush seems to mean that the 47,000 who were awarded a total of 4.85 billion according to my math should be getting a check in the mail for say, a hundred thousand dollars each.  You’d think that but then you wouldn’t understand how these deals really work.

I’m not discussing the merit or lack of in this case.  I am discussing the injustice system that allows lawyers to take all the money without a gun or mask.  I have personally known these lawyers who chase down and mug big companies.  One was a big time lawyer in Florida who was a key lawyer in the Tobacco settlement of some years ago.  He became an incredibly rich man overnight as a result of this settlement.  It’s all a scam to enrich the legal trade.

This wasn’t a class action suit like tobacco exactly, but it acted like one.  The plaintiffs “Won” $4,850,000,000.  Sounds like a lots doesn’t it.

Hold on, Have you EVER been part of one of these mass settlement cases?  I have.  Class action.  Three times.

The one that was the most discouraging was after the settlement, I got a letter from the class action attorneys that said in essence, “here’s the settlement, here’s how much money we took, and here’s what you get”.

I got enclosed in the envelope, and this is no lie, a coupon to get a discount on McDonalds hamburgers amounting to about ten bucks.  The settlement was for billions.  In all three class action suits the biggest I ever got was a check for $18.

So, let’s see how this goes.

$4,850,000,000 ( a little over a hundred grand per plaintiff average)
Lawyers get about a third off the top
minus Administrative expenses
minus Costs to Distribute the Money (the settlement is paid into a fund)
Then is comes to you, it comes as a structured settlement, that means over time, like winning a million dollars at a dollar a year for a million years
and there will be rules on who and how the payouts happen.

The average payout is expected to be between $10-40,000 paid over several years.  What happened to the Million each.  The lawyers got most of it.  Oh, there will be a half dozen instant millionaire stories as fodder for the press that will make everyone think everything worked out.  It didn’t.

Merck made a good deal,

The lawyers made a better one.

Only the plaintiffs got screwed.  The Understatement of the year is from this story:

“I think many individual plaintiffs are going to be disappointed with the amounts.”

YA THINK?

I hope they don’t eat up all their hamburger discounts at one time, that might cause a heart attack and then we’d have to sue McDonalds.  Wait, I take that back, I’ll bet right now some lawyer is punching up his spreadsheet to see how much money he could skim off a deal like that.

What Writers Strike, We’ve Got the Say Anything Consortium

I see that the Daily Show, The Tonight Show, The Colbert Report, Jimmy Kimmel, Saturday Night Live, Conan O’Brien, and lots of other shows are shut down because of a lack of writers.  It’s rerunville.

And you thought John Stewart was creative and funny.  He has good writers.  In real life he’s just a bore.

It is interpreting that the political bent of most of the people who write for these shows are left and in some cases way left of center.  George Bush is their favorite whipping boy.

In the same universe at the other end of the political spectrum are clever writers who write for the pure joy of it all.  FOR FREE.  Bloggers.  Clever People who comment for free.

So, I’ve been thinking of some of my favorite blog authors and what shows they should start writing for at once.  We don’t need no steenking writers.

I’m guessing they would be funnier, have a sharper edge and be more balanced politically.

The Colbert Report - With 2hotel9 (Colbert likes to think he can be acerbic, but in real life 2H9 would cut him off at the knees
The Daily Show - Robert108, bright insight would be a rarity R108 would bring
The Tonight Show ?
Conan O’Brien ?
Jimmy Kimmel Pilgrim, He’d clean that filthy mouth up.

I have my own list, but I wonder if there is anyone who would like to nominate their favorite and why.

Of course, the easy one is Rob who is the creator of this mess and so he would have to be the head writer, the chief of Saturday Night Live.

Now, Live From Minot,
It’s Saturday Night Live.............

Starring RO.....B PORT.......

I can see it all now, name in lights.....

Stepping out of that big limousine.

HOW TO: 6 Months to Oil Independance

Let me be clear. The oil shortage is not about oil, it’s about liquid fuels that we use every day to keep our economic engine running for transportation and heating. We don’t have a fuel shortage, we have a liquid fuel shortage. Here are immediate remedies that we could and should implement at once to roll back our foolish usage. The USA is the biggest user of oil by a long shot. That means you we can make a huge impact with little change. It’s time to see what can be done about all that without the blinders put on by global warming eco-nazis and the sycophantic politicians that bow to them. IF I were King:

Use ONE only year round formulation for gasoline and diesel. Only ONE. Allow the refiners to gear up and produce this in spades. The more they produce of one formulation the more efficient they will get recovering more and more from narrow cracking procedures.

Abolish public education under the age of 13—Full Stop. Home, church and chartered coop neighborhood schools do so much better than all the teacher union driven messes called schools do now. Oh, it would be publicly funded, but privately run. Think of the fuel just closing those big drafty buildings would save. PLUS, think of the savings from all the wasted money on school busing little kids. Then, if a child graduates from elementary school (8th grade) they can go on to “Prep” school or another route like a technical school for a couple years. That would use SOME of the buildings and we could bus some of those kids but some of those kids would stay in dorms on campuses. The better buildings could be used for Prep schools, the poorer ones in a city converted to living quarters. Public education has failed horribly in the USA, let’s put a fork in it and save fuel we waste doing nothing.

Recognize that Kyoto, carbon dioxide reduction and all related is inconsequential to the natural cycle of climate change. Pollution in sparse population centers is not an issue. If a coal plant somewhere in the Dakotas or Wyoming is located a hundred miles from any Major population areas then let her rip. Take off all restraints, scrubbing, all the other foolishness. Burn all the coal you can an generate electricity. Some of that electricity can be used to create liquid fuels from coal.

Quit creating ethanol at a net BTU loss. It wastes fuel, unless we can do it burning other lost resources such as used tires. Tires should be used as a fuel source in coal plants and these ethanol plants to capture the liquid oil sluffed off for refining. You get a lot of liquid oil from a single tire when you burn it.

Make backhaul trucking a reality again. There are too many trucks making too many empty trips because they can charge consumers for the whole turn. Trucking has become an inefficient transportation system. Mandate a load both ways. Use the ICC to influence truckers to maximize the use of the fuel they are buying. Finding a back haul is a lost art for many truckers. Too many trucks are dead heading home wasting fuel.

Limit the amount of police do patrolling in vehicles (read that just driving around wasting gasoline). Put cops on the beat on feet. Use technology to dispatch for emergencies. There are too many cops on the road and not enough ready to respond. In the 50’s the amount of driving around was unthinkable. And, some of that neighborhood patrolling can be done in very high mileage automobiles or on Segways, Bikes or electric vehicles. In Germany all the patrol cars are little tiny Volkswagens or Bicycles. Not the big gas guzzlers we use in the USA.

OFF ROAD. Agriculture should pay the same price for fuel as everyone else, tax included, as should construction. Fuel is fuel and the advantage causes uses that are not worthwhile. It’s false competition for resources.

Burn wood instead of Heating oil in centralized outdoor boilers. Use high smoke stacks to shunt the smoke high into the air and avoid local pollution. If every freestanding community under 5000 population in America allowed this for homes heated currently using oil to heat hot water boilers it would save huge amounts of fuel for other purposes, not provide any serious pollution since it’s only in very small towns and it has a zero net effect on CO2 generation if that’s a concern for you. One wood boiler per block would heat all the homes on that block for far less money than we are spending now. Plus it would use surplus wood for fuel saving landfill space and cleaning up the underbrush in forests. Most of these big boilers only need to be stoked once per day. They are sophisticated operations. People would only pay based on the heat they use.

Make it legal with incentives to burn used engine oil, waste oil, lard, cooking oils, industrial oils, any oils for energy production. This could be implemented thru adaptive technologies for commercial businesses. Recovery of these oils adds back to liquid fuels. The fact that we waste ANY liquid oil in any form whatsoever in any way is a crime. It should all be burned.

For anyone who currently own an automobile older than 1987 can turn it in for a subsidized purchase of an automobile that gets 27 MPH highway. These transactions would have far more incentive and effect than the current foolish incentives to buy a hybrid car. The net effect would be getting a large number of 15 MPH vehicles off the road in favor of those that get 27 MPH. This is a financing tax incentive program and would have the most impact on the fuel use. It is a zero cost impact on the government.

All of these things could be done in 6 months and would have an impact on oil usage.

Other areas of examination shortly after that:

Commercial and municipal buildings heated by oil to be converted to Natural Gas, coal or some other form. Remember, the shortage is LIQUID fuel. Not gas.

Airlines should do ride consolidations. Some flights shouldn’t be made. Before deregulation you could in fact fly any flight with any flight coupon. That saved fuel.

Get all permits for state of the art refining systems on line now. Same for all permits for Nuclear. If we are going to become energy independent we are going to need alternatives.

The conversion of poly and tires and any other organic materials to liquid oil and gas is very exciting. The technology exists.

The apparent practicality to take 10 million acres of the poorest desert (about 1/6th the size of Nevada) and waste land in areas near the ocean to produce algae that is 50% oil is an expensive undertaking but very practical. 10 million acres replaces all the oil we use now. It could be distributed into 250 acre farms. This is something needing to be done quickly.

Human and animal waste streams should be bioreduced to produce methane (natural gas). It is a crime to sluff off these gasses without making use of them.

We can and should be smarter in freeing up liquid fuels for transportation and use the easier to find gas and alternative fuels quickly. The technology exists to do all this.

I didn’t mention wind and photo voltaic power. Frankly it’s a long way off and still a pipe dream. IF there were a power shortage after we crank up more coal and nuclear plants in more places and let em rip. Supplement if you want the wind and solar but it’s peanuts.

Anyone have any other ideas? I know there is stupid waste in the system I know someone can put their finger on and we can put our finger in the leaky liquid fuels dike.

GLOBAL DISASTER SCARE

I liked the song 2525. Looking ahead just a hundred twenty years (one long lifetime) is the world a better or worse place?  I was thinking in particular about all the scary climate change and population explosions the MSM keeps harping on.  I am not a doomsayer at any level.  The are lying to you for control of your life.  The UN, the most corrupt organization in the world, is at the heart of all this.

Here are some truthy truths for those who love VERITAS:

Forecasts of doom and gloom are bad Halloween tricks meant to scare you.  Don’t fall for them.

Now, where’s my ALGORE costume...............

I hope this the end of Farming as we know it

Not the end of the world, the end of foolishness in farm policy.  That’s what this writer says we need.  I agree with him.  We are paying farmers money so they can grow crops they sell at big profit at taxpayer expense and get a check besides.

Farming is and should be a business driven by businesslike decisions.  What to grow, where, when and how based on enlightened self interest.  Not some bureaucratic “Working the System” welfare cheat state-gery that those down on the farm do better then those do even in the city.

I have Friends who live in the innermost inner city who are lovely people.  What bugs me is when they pronounce how they have figured out how to
“work the system”.  The system wasn’t put in place for them to work. It was put in place to help them so they can get out of the system.

That’s what was farm policy was supposed to be.  A safety net.

But like the folks from inner city Chicago who have learned to live without having to work ever again for the rest of their life if they choose to, these farmers have learned how to “farm the government” without every having to be responsible for running the business they own for the rest of their lives.

I’m so glad the whistle is being blown on this foolishness.  Time for these chickens to come home to roost.  Insert your own metaphor here.

Here’s the dirty little secret.  Allow farming to become what it was supposed to be, a business, and you will see the great plains prosper once again.  Real farmers farming for real means prosperity for all.

Six Degrees of Separation, You can Blame BUSH for Everything

I have a fun little game that you can play along with the liberal press and wacko lefty blogs. It has been going on for quite a while but it’s really fun when you get the EYE SPY award.

If you watch, nearly everything bad, evil, mean, nasty, undesirable or just plain annoying can or will be blamed on George W Bush, President USA.

I challenge you to find one thing that the liberals can’t or won’t blame on him. He’s like the universal JEW. It’s anti-Semitic (and wrong) to do what Hitler did, blame all the ills of the world on the Jews. But, George Bush is no Jew. So, blaming him for everything is safe.

I’m up for a challenge. I can blame George Bush for ANYTHING you come up with. ANYTHING it in less than 6 steps. I have gone to school at the hands of the experts. The liberal left wing wacko press and blogs.

Let’s play.

How the Iranian News Networks Reported the Columbia speech

What Follows is what the Iranian Press (which the world’s press will quote as gospel) said about Ah-bin-a-nut-job’s appearance at Columbia yesterday:

Despite entire US media objections, negative propagation and hue and cry in recent days over IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s scheduled address at Colombia University, he gave his lecture and answered students questions here on Monday afternoon.

On second day of his entry in New York, and amid standing ovation of the audience that had attended the hall where the Iranian President was to give his lecture as of early hours of the day, Ahmadinejad said that Iran is not going to attack any country in the world.

Before President Ahamadinejad’s address, Colombia University Chancellor in a brief address told the audience that they would have the chance to hear Iran’s stands as the Iranian President would put them forth.

He said that the Iranians are a peace loving nation, they hate war, and all types of aggression.

Referring to the technological achievements of the Iranian nation in the course of recent years, the president considered them as a sign for the Iranians’ resolute will for achieving sustainable development and rapid advancement.

The audience on repeated occasion applauded Ahmadinejad when he touched on international crises.

At the end of his address President Ahmadinejad answered the students’ questions on such issues as Israel, Palestine, Iran’s nuclear program, the status of women in Iran and a number of other matters.

That certainly worked out well, didn’t it? Ah-bin-a-nut-job cleaned our clock and we looked like fools to the rest of the world. Thank you well meaning liberal academics. You were warned.

He (Ah-bin-a-nut-job) got the platform, the forum and the legitimacy he sought by coming to America courtesy of the useful idiots.

Let’s not do that again, shall we?

Here’s Your Rear End, Thank You Very Much

That's what nutcase of Iran did today. Handed us our Rear Ends (That's Ass for you of Biblical Literacy).

He went to Columbia, highly protested, lambasted at the outset, he spoke answered questions and turned around at the end and handed our rear end back to us.

I knew it was wrong to let him speak. Now I know why. He made the USA look like fools. He now has the perfect propaganda tool for all the world to see.

He's the devil. You don't ever engage the Devil.

Dots Connected

Now I get it. Ahmadinejihad is speaking at Columbia University.

One of it’s alumna has been held in Iranian jail.

That Alumna works for George Soros, noted American Hater and Treason sponsor.

Iran releases the jailed Alumna.

Soros contributes big bucks to Columbia.

Ahmadinejihad speaks at Columbia.

No quid pro quo there.

Dots connected.

This is not Free Speech - just stupid

Liberals will stand up and cheer, you just wait. They have no patriotism.

Iran’s nutcase president Ahmadinejihad is visiting the USA.

He wanted to go to ground zero to present a plaque. I have my doubts if that was a plaque commemorating the firefighters or those who died in the towers.

My guess is it was in honor of the 19 “brave Islamic martyrs” who flew the plane into the things on 9-11 and murdered 3000 people. It would have somehow noted Islam’s greatest victory over the west in 800 years.

But in view of liberal idiocy, Columbia University (which took out an 18” cross so from the chapel in fear it might offend someone), yes that same Columbia university that invited a big-time Nazi official in the late 30’s and gave him an honor after he spoke. Yes that same university who while Hitler and his goons were burning books written by Jews they sent delegation to Heidelberg in honor of the 550th anniversary. The same college who’s President just said they would have invited Hitler to speak back during the war.

That renowned institution is having nutcase Iranian president Ahmadinejihad come to speak.

Here’s is what Ahmadinejihad, if he were honest, should explain to the Columbian audience:

* How he will deal with the homosexual population in his country and in ours when he invades.
* What he will do about abortion when he comes.
* What he will to encourage feminism when he takes over
* How he will encourage free speech when he becomes our leader
* The approach he will use to dealing with labor unions
* The transsexual in Iran and how they are tolerant towards them
* His platform regarding religious freedom
* The way his administration will embrace openly lesbian people like Rosie.
* The way he plans to have tolerance for drug use and alcoholic beverages
* His personal opinion on Same Sex Marriage

All this will be forgiven when he describes what he will do when he takes over the USA, just as long as at the end he says, “I hate America and George Bush” The liberals will clap, cheer and give him a standing Ovation.

They hate Bush much more than they love this country. This is not free speech. This is stupid is as stupid does. These are the same people who can’t pass a 60 question civics test. People who don’t understand our history, our country and our government. These are dupes. They shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

PS: If you are a liberal I’m still waiting for the report on well you did on the civics test that most liberals can’t pass.

This guy in Colorado is going to be first on his feet for the standing O.
He can’t pass a simple civics test either.

Kid Nation

When liberals are in charge you get the one word children learn first.  NO.

The kids from congress are now running the country .  They whine, wail and refuse to cooperate.  Just like little kids.  Then accuse and play all kinds of power games.  Just like little kids.

I know this is a phase, but when do the adults come home?  I’m really sick of this foolishness and so should you be.

Harry Ried wants to blame the Republicans for everything. To paint all Republicans with the same Iraqi brush.  To heck with the country, My party tis of thee.

Nancy Pelosi is acting like a spoiled child.  She says she feels insulted.  WAAAAA

If Jesus himself was nominated to be Attorney General the kiddies in Congress wouldn’t confirm him.  Ted Olsen is a good man and should be confirmed.  They won’t.  This is what you get when you let the kids try to run the nation.

Reid has declared any plan for Iraq unacceptable.

What that means is we will now have any movement, any cooperation, any progress because of the so called progressives.

The kid leaders only say NO.  And those are the leaders.  How about the ones who don’t get so much sycophantic press.  The real nutcases.

If you voted for any Democrat in the last election I hope you really like what a mess we have now.  Anarchy and stagnation.

We need the parents to come back home and spank these children.  I sometimes wish Bush had the power to just wipe the slate clean like Putin did yesterday.  I don’t really but when I see this kind of stupidity I understand it a little.

OBL is Max Headroom

Looking at the video of OBL it suddenly hit me, This is Max Headroom. You remember OL Max.

He wasn’t real either.  There’s nothing but Bones lefr where OBL once was.  Worms have taken him long ago.

What we are seeing here is a video computer produced. I could have done it better.

What a joke, and the world buys it.

I’m just waiting for Max OBL Headroom to say, “I-I-I-I’m B-B-B-Bombing America, A-A-A-A-Americccccaaa”.

Larry Craig, Trapped or Entrapped?

I have been pretty quiet about the whole Larry Craig Brouhaha. I don’t have a dog in that fight. I never knew who he was till this whole thing blew up.

Now I do.

I am somewhat disturbed by it all. I can’t tell you why. It’s like a bad movie. When the cops seem to be above board but something stinks. My skin crawls a bit. I think there may be more than meets the eye here.

First, let me say I am not a big fan of Minnesota and particularly Twin Cities law enforcement. I very much remember the child molestation charges leveled against some people who never did anything wrong in a daycare some years ago. That was typical Minnesota. There is a liberal self righteousness that exists that I am uncomfortable with. A witch hunt mentality among law enforcement people.

As I have watched this whole Larry Craig thing develop I’m no longer convinced he wasn’t entrapped. I have trolled the blogosphere and professional opinion for insight. There is no true consensus.

The Right Wing wants to show itself clean and perfect. They’re not. But that’s what they want to show.

I am as concerned over this whole thing as potential entrapment as I am over the sexual predator shows on NBC. I think something stinks about all that deal too. I want sexual predators in jail. I’m just not convinced we are catching predators but just stupid people entrapped by a clever scheme.

Color me sceptical.

Back to Larry Craig. I listened to and read his interview with the cop. I thought the cop was a bit overboard in his comments.

Here are several other opinions worth considering:

A guy who is convinced that this is all over but the shouting.

This guy thinks Crag was trapped in a sting operation and shouldn’t have been maybe.

This professor insists it’s NOT entrapment. My answer, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and has feathers like a duck I think you may have a duck on your hands.

This Woman insists it’s all hypocrisy and cultural drift
This College Girl thinks it’s kinda weird

The Best Take on all this in “Defense" of Larry Craig You really have to read this one.

Classical Values does a great review and linkology of the whole thing

Newsbusters (who I like) does a Why Do The Liberals Pile On review

I actually think the liberals on this one have been pretty evenhanded.

My real concern is what in the world are the Republicans thinking of in having the REP convention in The Twin Cities next summer? If I were a delegate I would hold it for the whole 5 days. You never know if the toe tapping sting squad is going to be watching.

How bout Sunny St. Charles? We promise not to ask or tell. Give up on MPLS/ST PAUL. They’re out to get you. On the other hand, if you come here, don’t tap your foot or wave your hand.
