Steady Diet Of Mistakes And Inefficiency

Gather ‘round children, and a true tale I’ll tell, about how privatization does not go well.

In the past decade or so, there has been a rush by public officials to privatize government functions. Corporations, they cried, can do any public job better and cheaper. So, on that theoretical assumption, everything from water systems to social services have been turned over to corporations for their fun and profit. In case after case, the profits came, but at the expense of the public, for the corporations achieved their so-called “efficiencies” by replacing experienced government employees with low-wage workers and cutting service to the people. WHO’S LOBBYING CONGRESS

How about that messy, silk-stocking coup pulled off this summer by business elites in Honduras? They got their government allies to depose the elected president, Manuel Zelaya, deporting him at gunpoint and installing their own guy as the nation’s unelected jefe.

DELL TAKES THE MONEY AND RUNS

Only five years ago, political poobahs in North Carolina were crowing loudly, laughing giddily, and slapping each other’s backs. We won, they hooted!

Truth revealed. Con wants seniors dead.

Rob.  I know you want all seniors to die soon, Rob, but blaming them for something over which they had no choice is just wrong.

Dick Morris Lies, The Loons From The Right Wing Buy.

On July 15, 2009 The Whistler posted a piece titled Dick Morris: Obamas Healthcare Will Ruin Seniors’ Medicare..

In that post I called Dick Morris a hack and a book peddler, who is devoid of facts.
The Whistler said this: “Nice refutation of the obvious fact that they will have to take away services from seniors.
This is the kind of cutting edge response we expect from you E.”

Bat One attempted to ridicule me by saying that… (more...)

Prescription Handguns For the Elderly and Disabled

Thanks to the Second Amendment, even the elderly have the right to keep and bear arms. The problem is that many of the guns out there are a bit unwieldy for an older person to handle. However, the inventors of the Palm Pistol are planning to change all that with a weapon that is ideal for both the elderly and the physically disabled. In
a statement submitted to Medgadget, the manufacturer, Constitution Arms, has revealed the following: ‘We thought you might be interested to
learn that the FDA has completed its “Device/Not a Device” determination and concluded the handgun will be listed as a Class I Medical Device.’
Physicians will be able to prescribe the Palm Pistol for qualified patients who may seek reimbursement through Medicare or private health
insurance companies.”

Researchers say voters swayed by candidates who share their looks

http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2008/october22/morph-102208.html
Made up your mind who to vote for?

Maybe it’s because you like the looks of the candidate. Or maybe it’s because the candidate looks a little like you, even if you don’t realize it.

In a paper slated to be published in the December issue of Public Opinion Quarterly, Jeremy Bailenson, an assistant professor of communication, and Shanto Iyengar, the Harry and Norman Chandler Professor in Communication, say that people are subconsciously swayed by candidates who share their facial features.

“The field of political science has been dominated by the main ideal that voters are rational and that voters base their decisions on substance and issues and policy,” Bailenson said. “We wanted to say, ‘Well, how much of our decisions are actually based on superficial qualities?’”
