Rep. Collin Peterson D-MN
Rep. Peterson was one of seven Democrats who voted no on the stimulus bill because it was loaded with non stimulating extras. Read his statement here http://collinpeterson.house.gov/press/111th/stimulus%20statement.html
He has it right.
Another area in which I have admired the congressman for is his willingness to go on talk radio and discuss his positions, especially on conservative talk radio. Something that is nearly foreign to our entire ND delegation. Tho I align myself with the Republican party I appreciate the congressman’s input.
Minnesota is lucky to have him.

Mandated abortion?
With the nationalized health care package in the stimulus bill will mandated abortion be on the door step? Health care will be determined by the new health czar not your local doctor. Will all pregnant women be required to be tested to see if their(oops, government’s) child has a birth defect? If a defect is found will the appropriate treatment, determined by the czar be abortion? Very likely. Time will tell if this is just an hypothisis or reality.

Anna’s “Dirty” Linens
My neice is a young mother of 2 and who’s husband is career military. In about two weeks her husband and his unit will be returning to their California base from a 15 month deployment to Iraq. This is his third deployment to Iraq. As on many bases the wifes of soldiers are involved in groups to aid and assist families while their soldiers are away.
When these troops return it can take several days before they get there personnel items out of storage so one of the pojects the wifes do is to buy sheets, blankets, food, etc for the single soldiers in the unit.
This past Saturday my neice went to Victorville, Ca to purchase the blankets. The store she went to had a policy that 6 blankets were allowed per customer. She had no problem with that but did explain to management what they were for but they didn’t seem to care. She told them she would just ask customers in the parking lot if they would buy the blankets for her. Management said they would not sell to them because they knew they would be going to her project. She,my neice, went ahead anyway and asked people to help her out. The people she asked had no problem doing this and she had about 60 blankets purchased this way when the manager told the clerks to shut down the tills and then kicked my neice out of the store.
According to my neice the clerks were understanding,it was management that had the heartburn.
I understand that most stores at times will have policy on the number of items that can be purchased because it’s on sale or for other reasons, but this seems to be overboard on the stores part to me.

Smoking police
SB 2070 to be introduced in the upcoming ND legislative session will ban smoking in any vehicle which has anyone under the age of 16, regardless if this vehicle sits on private property. It names cigs, pipes, etc but also references any combustable material. Will this mean that the candle in your winter survival kit is included in the area of combustable material?
I believe this will not be the last bill to ban smoking. Smoking in your back yard will be banned in the future.
If the legislature had any testicular fortitude it would just outright ban tobacco products instead of chipping away people’s rights as this bill would do.
