Here We Go Again: Rostenkowski, Health Care and the Original Town-Hall Protest,

Back in 1989, the Democrat House, led by Ways and Means Chairman Dan Rostenkowski, passed the ‘Catastrophic Health Care Act.’ The Act promised to expand coverage and benefits, financed by a surcharge on senior’s existing Medicare benefits. Passage of the Act sparked on outcry from seniors. CBSNews goes back into the archives to find footage of one of the protests.



The report forgets to mention that Congress quickly repealed the Catastrophic Act in response to the voter backlash. Something current Members of Congress might want to keep in mind.

Pelosi Breaks Pledge to Put Final Health Care Bill Online for 72 Hours Before Vote

On September 24, Speaker Nancy Pelosi told THE WEEKLY STANDARD that she was “absolutely” committed to putting the text of the final House bill online for 72 hours before the House votes:

  TWS: Madam Speaker, do you support the measure to put the final House bill online for 72 hours before it’s voted on at the very end?

  PELOSI: Absolutely. Without question.

But tonight, when asked if Speaker Pelosi will leave the bill online for 72 hours after we see what’s in the rule, Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly replied in an email: “No; [the] pledge was to have manager’s amendment online for 72 hours, and we will do that.”

Apparently Pelosi’s agreement to leave the “final” bill online “at the very end” of the process wasn’t such a straightforward pledge.

Her words rarely mean what she says!

Another 12.9 million remain on voter registration lists in an area where they no longer live.

“Deadwood on voters rolls complicates the electoral process and can cause problems like fraud and vote miscounts,” Phillips said. “It always creates a perception of low voter turnout. It gets down to this: by depressing turnout, dead voters make the rest of us look bad.”

CIT files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection
CIT Group seeks prepackaged reorganization in New York bankruptcy court,

WASHINGTON (AP)—After struggling for months to avert bankruptcy, lender CIT Group has filed for Chapter 11 protection in an attempt to restructure its debt while trying to keep badly needed loans flowing to thousands of mid-sized and small businesses.


The Nikkei opened down 3% today, I am sure our markets will react similar.


CIT is the financier for about 2,000 vendors that supply merchandise to more than 300,000 stores, many of which are gearing up for the critical holiday shopping season. They rely on the lender to cover costs ranging from paying for orders to making payroll. Any disruption caused by bankruptcy could wreak havoc on their operations, Joe Alouf, a partner with Eaglepoint Advisors, a crisis management company that is partly owned by Kurt Salmon Associates.

“CIT is the 600-pound gorilla in the industry,” Alouf said.

Thank God the recession is over and the “O"bummer administration has the economy on the right track. The Dow hit 10,000 again recently you know, it may not make it back there this year after the rest of the dominoes start falling. And more dominoes are going to fall. Turbo tax “Timmy” has more problems then he is telling.
