The A-10 is what flying is all about - CLOSE SUPPORT. Flying low, taking hits, dropping ‘palm, and making another pass! (if we still used napalm… *pouting*)
I never got to operate with A-10s in Iraq, but I did get to see them fly during one of our tank gunneries in Korea. I also learned that 1 out of 9 female A-10 pilots are good looking (From a sampling of… 9 female A-10 pilots). That’s the type of research that you do when you are a lieutenant.
Are you feeling down in the dumps? Well your depression is over… Watching this video of our country’s finest land-based piece of killing machinery is good for what ails ya!
It’s hard not to get excited when you see these 70 ton death dealers shooting and moving.
And if armor doesn’t do it for ya, you may still want to watch the video if you like funk music.
(Yes, I know that there are at least a couple of M1A1's in there.)
If you don’t know who the Sabres are, then maybe now is your time to get acquainted with them. The Sabres are currently the top team in the NHL with a record of 44-16-5 (where the 5 is overtime losses) for a total of 93 points. They also have 251 goals (more than any other team) in the 65 games they’ve played this season. The only other team in the NHL with that many points right now is Nashville (in the Western Conference) who has played two more games than Buffalo and tallied 231 goals.
22 February was an emotional day for Sabres fans. They were playing Ottawa, who is also in the North East Division, and Chris Neil, #25, cheap shots Buffalo’s captain, Chris Drury, #23. This cheap shot led to fights and more than 100 penalty minutes assessed. I didn’t get to see the game (because I live in a part of Ohio where no one has heard of hockey and I was at work anyway), and it hurts me that I’ve only seen one Sabres game this year.
If you want to see some highlights from the exciting game, click here (I don’t know how long that link will be active).
Why am I writing about this now? Because someone sent me this Adam Sandler Song/YouTube video.
You may notice that Adam mentions that it’s Buffalo’s injured squad on the ice. That was (and is) correct. Buffalo has been playing with a lot of members from their AHL team, the Rochester Americans.
TORONTO (AP)—The Buffalo Sabres are first overall in the NHL despite missing eight regulars to injury.
Toni Lydman, Drew Stafford and Nathan Paetsch scored to lead the injury-riddled Sabres to a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
Buffalo, using a number of call-ups from the AHL affiliate in Rochester, has lost only once in regulation in its past 11 games (9-1-1).
And Rochester, even with all of the call-ups, still has more wins this year than any other team in their division.
The Sabres are an exciting organization. If you haven’t been checking them out, or you have never been interested in hockey, this may be your year, and Buffalo may be your team.
This Half Hour News Hour thing is hilarious! A female Vice President… Children’s books… ACLU commercials… Che t-shirts… Obama… and Six Degrees of Global Warming.

I’m a five jump chump, and I am not ashamed to admit it. Jumping out of a C-130 with a T-10 Charlie is one of the more stupid things that I have done in my life. It was stupid not because the jump was bad, (I actually couldn’t wait to get out of that stale aired coffin) but because one must land after the jump. If I had a choice to do it again, I wouldn’t. One of my legs is shorter than the other, and I wouldn’t be surprised if my three week experience at FT Benning was the cause of it.
I was number 13 in my chalk (there was a 1LT in my chalk, and because he outranked me, I didn’t get to jump first). Despite having to wait for 12 other people to jump before me, I think I may have hit the ground first (145 pound kids floating in the breeze…). I watched as I sped toward the ground at a faster rate than anyone else. Landing hurts! Even when you do it correctly! This ain’t no civilian skydive where you can land standing up. (Maybe one of you ‘real’ airborne people can quote the speed at which you hit the ground with a T10C… 15 to 20 mph sticks out in my mind…)
I hated the feeling of fear when I approached the ground… the feeling that your legs could snap in all kinds of locations if something went wrong. The fear that the wind would ever so slightly shift after you committed to landing a certain way, causing you to go heels, ass, head (like my final jump).
Anyway… This is kinda-sorta what it looks like to do an Army jump. It’s a fun video. And to this guy’s credit, looking at his other YouTube video, he’s a mortarman - which means that he probably carries a lot of extra weight on some jumps (base plate, tube, extra shells…).
I received a link to this story in my e-mail today. It’s about a father’s love for his son. I had heard of this father/son team before, but I hadn’t heard the full story.
I don’t have any children. If and when I do, I hope that I can love them as much as this man loves his son.
Children are a blessing.
(The story from the link can be read in the ‘more’ section.)
I read an excellent article at Dime Brothers today on the five conspiracies of Ground Hog Day.
Groundhog Day is a fun little adventure that kind of sneaks up on us every year. And I’m beginning to see why. Everything about Punxsutawney Phil reeks of a conspiracy, from the spelling of the town’s name to the celebration to the permeation of lies into our shared scientific heritage. I’m sick of these lies—sick of ‘em! I better share this insider information with you before “the man” puts me in my place.
[...]
The writer then goes to explain the five conspiracies… It’s a fun read! So if you want to take a break from the harsh political battles here at SA, then head on over to Dime Brothers and get a good chuckle.
HILLARY: I said that we should not go to war unless we have allies. So he took the authority that I and others gave him and he misused it, and I regret that deeply. And if we had known then what we know now, there never would have been a vote and I never would have voted to give this president that authority.
Emphasis added.
Is that a fact?
What about when you were speaking to Code Pink in 2003?

I had to work through the NHL All Star Game, and I was truly saddened by this. So, I came home from work, and checked Yahoo! Sports. The West had beaten the East 12-9 (Buffalo’s Daniel Briere won the MVP).
The next Cindy Sheehan has surfaced out of Fort Lewis, Washington.
Conscientious Rejector?
First Lieutenant Ehren Watada still refuses Iraq deployment orders, calling the war illegal. A six-year prison term could result. Preliminary hearings are set for Thursday.
The fact that this “officer” is refusing to go to Iraq sickens me. Throughout the entire article this disgusting excuse for a Lieutenant talks about the legality of the war without citing any laws that the war violates. And what’s worse is that he thinks that he can dictate what’s lawful and what is not. Military personnel do not dictate the foreign policy of the United States.
NEW YORK - New York on Tuesday became the first city in the nation to ban artery-clogging trans fats at restaurants, leading the charge to limit consumption of an ingredient linked to heart disease and used in everything from french fries to pizza dough to pancake mix.
In a city where eating out is a major form of activity — either for fun or out of hectic necessity — many New Yorkers were all for the ban, saying that health concerns were more important than fears of Big Brother supervising their stomachs.
I grew up in New York State, yet have only been to “The City” one time, for one day. I really didn’t care for it. If this new law is the mindset that controls the population of NYC, then you can count on me staying away at all costs.
We can have logical debates over the validity of a public smoking ban, blood alcohol content while driving, and illegal drug use. All of those can very directly affect people other than the user. However, the few effects of trans fats on people other than the consumer are limited to things such as seeing people in outfits that are less than appealing on a large frame, less room in elevators and public transportation, and the like.
Toni Lewis, catching a quick dinner at McDonalds before her child’s piano lesson on the eve of the vote, acknowledged that yes, it might be going too far for the city to tell people what they can and can’t put into their stomachs. But, she added: “I welcome the intrusion.”
“This is New York,” she said. “People eat out a lot. We don’t have a choice. We need someone to make it a healthier proposition.”
Hello, Moron! You did have a choice (and I find it funny that you chose McDonalds - what you say you are against). Now, you don’t. If you are so worried about “health,” then why go to a fast food restaurant? If I wanted to eat a high quality piece of beef, I would go to a steak house, not McD’s.

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Saddam Hussein, the iron-fisted dictator who ruled Iraq for nearly a quarter of a century, was found guilty of crimes against humanity Sunday and sentenced to death by hanging.
[...]
Saddam’s half brother and former intelligence chief Barzan Ibrahim, and Awad Hamed al-Bandar, head of the former Revolutionary Court, were sentenced to join Saddam on the gallows for the Dujail killings after an unsuccessful assassination attempt during a Saddam visit to the city 35 miles north of Baghdad.
I’m sure that I am not alone when I say that I am glad to see that verdict pass. And I also know that there are those in the country who will be mourning his death. I feel sorry for those who call good ‘evil,’ and evil ‘good.’
I started getting interested in hockey in late Autumn 2002 after moving to Colorado. I got interested in it because the local college team was pretty darned good, and the seats were cheap.
If you haven’t had a reason to give hockey a look, tonight is the night to change that. At 7:00 pm EST, the Buffalo Sabres play against the Atlanta Thrashers for the opportunity to break an NHL record.
With their 3-0 win against the New York Islanders Thursday night, the Buffalo Sabres jumped to 10-0 and tied the NHL record set by the 1993-94 Toronto Maple Leafs for the most consecutive victories to start an NHL season. The Sabres will try to break the record against the Thrashers at home on Saturday night. There are many reasons to think that this year’s club is for real. Here are 10 things we love about the 2006-07 Sabres:…
If you have access to the game, give it a watch. It should be pretty good as Atlanta is second in the Eastern Conference. Buffalo will have to work to break this record.
