This year our mayor in Seattle chose to show us how terrible our addiction to hydrocarbon-burning private vehicles is, by “banning” cars from an area of the city for 1 day.
I know what you’re thinking: Junior-High-level Idealism.
“It’s all an experiment,” said Karin Zaugg Black, spokeswoman for the mayor. “The idea is to celebrate and enjoy life without your car.”
Yes, life is just an experiment. Let’s go ahead and try that - with other people’s money and time.
The Seattle Times, in retrospect, dares to question the mayor’s judgment.
While some restaurant owners said they didn’t notice a difference in business, others said the street closure hurt — a lot.
