Who is generous and who isn’t

There was a thread here last week about how much more generous conservatives are than liberals, the assertion based on a book (Who Really Cares) written a few years ago. I and other liberals maintain that the discrepancy isn’t that large between the groups of religious and on the secular side, the liberals are much more generous than conservatives. An analysis of the book’s findings indicate the same.

Religious giving also factors in as conservatives make up a larger percentage of the religious and give regularly to their churches, something that may not count as much, being largely self-serving.

As it turns out, a new book is causing a lot of hand-wringing over the “stingy” nature of American Christians, making the assumption of religious giving among conservatives suspect by seeming to contradict the conclusions of the earlier book, Who Really Cares.

The point here may be that you can’t make assumptions about who gives and why someone gives to charity despite propaganda published to make the right look better.

From a review of the more recent book on a Christian website:

What did Bush know and when did he know it?

We’ve all read about the pardon given by Bush that was subsequently reversed when he found out that the guy’s father gave a tidy sum of money to the republican party ($28,500). The Bush people claim they didn’t know about the contributions or the extent of the pardoned man’s crimes until they read about them in news reports.

!!!!!!

This begs a WHOLE BUNCH of questions that I think we need to have answered.

1. Did the White House have any contact with the man’s father prior to getting the donation? The donation was made just before the petition for the pardon was submitted. Looks suspicious.

2. Was there quid pro quo? Would this pardon have been reversed had the press not picked up on it?

3. As for the claims of not knowing the full extent of the man’s crimes: Is Bush pardoning people without full knowledge of their crimes? How is that not incompetence?

I could formulate even more questions as I’m sure the press could also. But really, who cares? I don’t. I’m sure no one else does either. The only reason to pursue such questions would be to embarass or tarnish Bush (not a big deal since his legacy is circling the bowl anyway thanks to the never-ending war and economic crisis he presided over) and keep him busy answering stupid questions that have no purpose except to annoy and score political points.

This is the sort of thing conservatives use like a noisemaker to annoy and interfere for no real purpose other than for political mileage. Like the so-called Blago scandal.

Notice that the liberals don’t do that. Even the so-called liberal media isn’t making a big deal out of it.

Conservatives need to grow up.

CNN - Hawaii’s always been a great spot for honeymoons — and Barack Obama, who’s spending the holiday season there on the beach at Kailua, is unquestionably having one of the best in modern presidential history.

In the words of Michael Dukakis, “A fish rots from the head first.”

Looks like the fish is fighting back valiantly. Won’t matter. This guy’s legacy is toast.

A legacy going down for the third time

I have always maintained that the crisis was caused by the conservative leadership telling people they could have it all on credit.

“Get out there and shop! The only life worth living is the one full of junk you picked up at the mall. If you don’t have a 5 bedroom McMansion with granite counter tops and a media room, two jet skis in the garage and a Harvard education for each kid, you’re a LOSER!”

Conservatives ask: “How can we blame the UAW for this?”

Toyota projects first loss since 1941

So what’s the deal? I thought the American car companies’ downfall was due to the impossible demands of the UAW and that the foreign companies were fine due to non-union labor?

Will the southern republican Senators now demand that their state’s autoworkers take pay and benefit cuts?

One by one, the conservative theories are proven to be myths and get thrown on the trash heap.

Something conservatives would turn into an 8-year investigation

Bush Insider Who Planned To Tell All Killed In Plane Crash: Non-Profit Demands Full Federal Investigation

If they weren’t so pleased that the crash happened, they’d appoint Ken Starr and spend $50 million investigating. It would be the new Vince Foster fable.

But since the guy who perished was going to spill the beans on the bush administration’s crimes, oh well!

“This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq.”

One brave man’s defiance.

Contrary to most media coverage, the 28-year-old TV reporter Muntadhar al-Zaidi made history not by merely throwing a pair of shoes, the highest expression of insult in Iraqi culture, at the US president, but by what he said while doing so and as he was smothered by US and Iraqi security men.

More proof of the wrong-headed conservative dogma about the CRA

Amazing link to a wealth of information about the CRA and why conservatives are wrong to be blaming the CRA.

The CRA, Fannie, Freddie and faulty conservative dogma

Arguing with some brainstem on here and I came across something I wanted to share with the other brainstems to help them see the error in their ways of placing blame for the financial crisis we find ourselves in.

These are remarks made by the CEO of Bank of America to the Executive’s Club of Chicago (which I’m sure makes them immediately suspect among the con-stems reading this since Obama is from there).
