Invitation to Islam Must Precede an Attack

The invitation to convert to Islam was the heart, and the most revealing aspect, of bin Laden’s entire statement in his video.

The chief reason for this, of course, is because in traditional Islamic law, the invitation to Islam must precede an attack on non-Muslims.

The Islamic prophet Muhammad makes this clear, directing Muslims to issue this invitation first, and if the unbelievers refuse, to invite them to enter the Islamic social order as second-class dhimmis, and if they refuse both, to go to war with them:

Fight in the name of Allah and in the way of Allah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war, do not embezzle the spoils; do not break your pledge; and do not mutilate (the dead) bodies; do not kill the children. When you meet your enemies who are polytheists, invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them….If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya [the poll tax on non-Muslims]. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them. (Sahih Muslim 4294)

Is, then, a major attack imminent?

What Is Faith?

Although many things can be said in criticism of religious faith, there is no discounting its power.

Millions among us, even now, are quite willing to die for our unjustified beliefs, and millions more, it seems, are willing to kill for them.

What is faith then? Is it something other than belief? The Hebrew term “emuna” is alternately translated as “to have faith” “to believe” or “to trust.”

The Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, retains the same meaning in the term pisteuein, and this Greek equivalent is adopted in the New Testament.

Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
Read in the right way, this passage seems to render faith entirely self-justifying: perhaps the very fact that one believes in something which has not yet come to pass (“things hoped for) or for which one has no evidence (“things not seen”) constitutes evidence for it’s actuality (“assurance”).

Let’s see how this works: I feel a certain, rather thrilling “conviction” that Nicole Kidman is in love with me. As we have never met, my feeling is my only evidence of her infatuation.

I reason thus: my feelings suggest that Nicole and I must have a special, even metaphysical, connection-otherwise, how could I have this feeling in the first place?
I decide to set up camp outside her house to make the necessary introductions…..clearly; this sort of faith is a tricky business.

Enough is Enough:Ban the Koran

The Koran is a facist book which incites violence. That is why this book, just like Mein Kampf, must be banned.

A moderate Islam does not exist. It does not exist because there is no difference between Good Islam and Bad Islam.

There is Islam and that is the end of it. Islam is the Koran, and nothing other than the Koran.

And the Koran is the Mein Kampf of a religion that desires to eliminate others- non –Muslims-who are called infidel dogs, and inferior creatures.

Read the Koran, that Mein Kampf, yet again. In whatever version and you will see that the evil which the sons of Allah have perpetrated against us comes from that book.

Allah finds that the death penalty is warranted for apostasy.

Enough is enough. Let’s stop with the politically correct spin and hype.

The source of the problem facing the world is Islam, the sick ideology of Allah and Mohammed as it is set out in the Islamic Mein Kampf: the Koran.

The texts in the Koran leave little to the imagination.

In various Sura’s Muslims are called upon to oppress, persecute, or kill Jews, Christians and others, believers and non –believers and to beat women and to rape and to use violence to implement a worldwide Islamist state.

Numerous other Sura’s are used by Muslims to incite to death and destruction.

Ban that wretched book like Mein Kampf is banned!

In doing so send a signal to our attackers and other Islamist that the Koran never ever can be allowed to be used as an inspiration for violence.

I am ashamed of pundits and politicians. Their naïve and pathological striving for a utopian moderate Islam which will only bring our country hell and damnation.

I am ashamed of the people inside and outside the Politics who refuse to stop the Islamic invasion of Europe and North america.

I am ashamed for American politicians who day in and day out accept the over representation of foreigners in illegality and criminality and have no answer for it.

Our Congress is full of cowardly members. Fearful people who are born cowards and will die as cowards.

Those who talk to the representatives of the terrorist group Hamas.

Those who see the extremists of the Muslim Brotherhood as partners for discussion.

Those who couldn’t care less about the interests of American citizens and are working to transform the USA into Ameicarabia as a province of the super state of the Caliphate.

I have had enough of Islam period: Not one more Muslim immigrant should be let in.

I have had enough of the reverence for Allah and Mohammed in the Media: There should not be even one more mosque.

I have had enough of the Koran in our universities and schools. Ban that wretched book.

Enough is enough.

Undercover in Little Morocco

“Undercover in Little Morocco” is the name of a book written by the young Flemish journalist Hind Fraihi. She spent two months researching undercover among radical Muslims in Brussels. Among her shocking findings was the revelation that younger Muslims in particular are increasingly prone to violence, and not just in the cities.

It has shocked Belgium to the core!!!!

Allah is a Monster

The US-based psychiatrist Dr.Wafa Sultan—who has two fatwas (religious rulings) issued against her to be killed—warned that Muslims would continue to exploit freedom of speech in the West to spread their “hate” and attack their adopted countries, until the Western mind grasped the magnitude of the Islamic threat.

“That’s why the West has to monitor the majority of Muslims because you don’t know when they’re ready to be activated. Because they share the same basic belief, that’s the problem,” “

Muslims have been hostages of their own belief systems for 1400 years. There is no way we can keep the Koran

Dr Sultan, who was raised on Alawite Islamic beliefs before she renounced her religion, began to question Islam after she witnessed her university teacher get gunned down by Muslim hardliners in Syria in 1979.

She is completing her first book, The Escaped Prisoner: When Allah is a Monster.

Islamic Jurisprudence

....the constitution of the new, post-Taliban Afghani regime stipulates that “no law can be contrary to the beliefs and provisions of the sacred religion of Islam.”

Abdul Rahman’s case showed that Islam’s traditional classification of apostasy as a capital crime would be included in this.

The prophet Muhammad regarded apostasy from Islam as a supreme evil, and one of the main reasons the punishment is so severe is because apostates were once Muslims but “turn renegade.”

Muhammad decreed that no Muslim could be put to death except for murder, unlawful sexual intercourse, and apostasy.

He said flatly: “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.”

This is still the position of all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence

Cape Wind

Excerpt from Peter Schweizer’s Do As I say, Not As I do

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Ted Kennedy is one of the great liberal lions of the U.S. Senate. For the past forty years, no one in that body has roared louder for liberal causes.

Name the issue and Kennedy has been there: soak the rich with higher taxes; abortion on demand; protect the planet from ecological damage; take on the wealthy and polluting oil companies; universal health care for all Americans; ban guns; amnesty for illegal aliens.

He clearly sees income redistribution as a moral imperative. If there is a battle to be waged, Kennedy is usually in the middle of it. And unlike many of his Senate colleagues, Kennedy is not one to back down.

No doubt much of the liberal love for Kennedy comes from his air of moral certitude. With fine senatorial bombast he skewers his opponents, frequently calling their motives into question.

But do his actions match his words? Does Kennedy actually live by the principles he so loudly and vigorously proclaims?

A closer look at his conduct in private life reveals that this champion of liberal causes is really the king of liberal hypocrites.

All of the Kennedys have been longtime cheerleaders for alternative sources of energy. Senator Kennedy has introduced dozens of pieces of legislation over the years to encourage the development of solar, hydrogen and wind as alternatives to oil and coal.

As far back as 1980, when he ran for president, he was calling for greater use of alternative energy to become a central part of our energy policy.

He was cosponsor of the 2005 Clean Power Act, which would require a reduction in power plat emissions, which he said”caused deaths and contribute to global warming.”

Joe and Patrick have backed the same sort of legislation in the house. Robert Kennedy has crisscrossed the country, decrying our “addiction” to oil and calling for a new era of “clean energy.”

During a recent speech to the National Press Club, Senator Kennedy said that we need to “start demanding immediate action to reduce global warming and prevent catastrophic climate change that may be on our horizon now.”

Part of the answer was to shift to alternative sources” “We should replace our dependence on foreign oil, not by drilling in the priceless Arctic national Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, but by investing in clean energy.”

All of this must have been very encouraging to Jim Gordon when he decided to develop and build a “clean energy” project in Massachusetts.

With their commitment to clean energy, the search for alternatives to coal and oil, and an ethic that says individuals can make a difference; Gordon must have assumed that the Kennedys would support him. But he soon discovered that the Kennedy’s have “clean energy” for other people-not themselves.

In 2003, after several years of research and study, Gordon and his fellow investors launched the Cape Wind Project in an effort to provide clean energy for thousands of homes on Cape Cod.

Their hope was to replace the coal fired plants that were providing much of the area’s power and were believed to be causing health problems.

The Cape Wind Project was expected to provide three-quarters of the electrical power needed by the Cape and other islands without producing pollution or greenhouse gases.

This was not a radical or untried plan. Both Sweden and Denmark (two countries that Kennedy often praises as paragons of enlightened social policy) use similar wind-powered power systems near their coasts.

But from the moment the Kennedy family got wind of these plans (so to speak), they came out in strong opposition. Their complaint: The wind turbines would be built in Nantucket Sound, about six miles off the coast from the Kennedy compound in Hyannis. The problem was not aesthetic; the Kennedys wouldn’t be able to actually see the turbines from their home.

Instead Robert Kennedy Jr., who had been beating the drums for alternative sources of energy for more than a decade, complained that the project would be built in one of the family’s favorite sailing and yachting areas.

The Kennedys were quickly joined by other affluent “environmentalists” with homes in the area.

When the U.S. army Corps of Engineers was assigned to conduct a comprehensive review of the proposal, Cape Wind was optimistic that the results would sway the plan’s opponents.

“I believe when he [Kennedy] sees the results of this comprehensive environmental review, he will see the compelling public interest benefits: lower electrical costs, a cleaner healthier environment, and energy independence and minimal environmental impact” said Jim Gordon.

Kennedy made a judicious pronouncement to the effect that the idea needed further study. “We have an obligation to preserve the Cape for future generations, which requires us to know the impact of our decisions on the landscape, seascape and environment,” he said in publicly. Privately he worked diligently to get the study canceled.

Environmentalist groups lined up behind the project.  Antinuclear activist Helen Caldecott wrote to Kennedy personally in an attempt to persuade him to embrace the project. But Kennedy wouldn’t budge.

Days after the report was issued, Kennedy called for greater federal regulation of wind farms and got his longtime friend Sen. John Warner, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, to offer an amendment to the defense budget to stop the project.

Other members of the Senate took notice and the amendment was withdrawn.

As of this writing, Kennedy remains completely opposed to the “clean energy” Cape Wind Project.

“Muslims Speak Out”

From Campus Watch

Yesterday, it was announced via press release that the joint Washington Post and Newsweek blog On Faith will be hosting an “online dialogue” from July 22-27 during which Muslim clerics, thinkers, and related figures will discuss “religion, terrorism and human rights.”

Titled “Muslims Speak Out,” the event is being held in conjunction with Georgetown University and perhaps not coincidentally, religion, international affairs, and Islamic studies professor John Esposito will be one of the panelists.

Esposito, along with being a regular contributor to the On Faith blog, is the founding director of Georgetown’s Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding.

It is so named after its Saudi patron, Prince Alwaleed bin Talel, who is not known for his moderate views. Neither, by the way, is Esposito who has consistently taken an apologetic stance towards Islamism, not to mention demonstrating a marked hostility towards the efforts of the United States and Israel to combat such forces.

Esposito’s commentary to this effect has garnered him several entries in the Campus Watch “Quote of the Month” feature, including the following gems:

Esposito explained that one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter; and that terrorism, as seen in the case of Israel’s or the Tel Aviv regime’s treatment of Palestinians, can and has been used to legitimate wanton violence and continued acts of oppression.

Esposito speaking at the Conference for Civilisational Dialogue at Malaya University, September 1997. (link to source)

“While stories on global terrorism and domestic threats are important to us all, at the same time how many stories have gone one step further and focused on the thousands of Muslims indiscriminately arrested, detained, monitored and interviewed and not found guilt or released for lack of evidence; the number of Islamic charities shut down but despite the passage of years not successfully prosecuted; the continued detention of Muslims like Prof. Sami al-Arian…”

Esposito blogging on March 28, 2007 at On Faith about Sami al-Arian, the former University of South Flordia professor imprisoned for aiding the terrorist organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

“I have the world’s greatest job because I’ve been saying the same thing for 30 years. Can anybody else make that claim?”

Esposito speaking about “Understanding Islam” at the University of Missouri, April, 2005.

Esposito has indeed been saying the same thing for some time and his words offer no more illumination to students of Middle East studies today than they did 30 years ago.

His inclusion in “Muslims Speak Out” hardly bodes well for a well-rounded and objective look at a crucial topic. But considering some of the unsavory characters on the panel, Esposito will be in good company.

The entire event is emblematic of the continuing blindness in this country as to who constitutes true allies among the Muslim community, as well experts in Middle East studies on related issues.

The fact that Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Karen Hughes, who’s in charge of “building bridges” between America and the Muslim world, is a devoted acolyte of Esposito’s work says it all.

Therefore, “moderate Islam,” is no Islam at all.

American Thinker

By Amil Imani

Many people have asked me why I have put my life in harm’s way by tangling with Islam and why I do what I do.

Born in a Muslim family and having witnessed first-hand the horrors and indignity that Islamofascism visits on people it subjugates, I have taken it upon myself to do my part in defeating this ideology of oppression, hate and violence.

Islam is wrapped in deception as a spiritual dogma or religion and is more dangerous than Nazism, Communism and Fascism.

My writings aim to help people decide if they want to rank with the Islamists or if they want to truly live as free men.

The truth shall set you free, it is said, but first it will shatter the cozy, sweet world you live in.

Nowadays we hear from the non-Muslim world about the moderate version of Islam and moderate Muslims.

In my view, being a Muslim and not being radical is simply not possible. Freedom lets a person make choices and be up-front about it.

And that’s where I part with those who would prefer to be sheep and have sheepdogs hem them in.

Many non-Muslims are obviously very well-meaning with regard to Islam, but they are also extremely naïve and ignorant of the facts.

They seem to think that Islam is just another religion of love and peace and Muslims should be given full freedom to practice their religion.

Do they also believe that thieves, misogynists, rapists, child-molesters and any and all manner of practicing evils should be given complete carte blanche to carry on with what they value and believe?

These well-meaning poeple are just as deluded as the fanatic jihadists by refusing to acknowledge the fact that one cannot be a Muslim and not abide by the dictates of the Quran.

There is no such thing as moderate Islam. There is no such thing as secular Islam or a secular Muslim. It’s the nature of the faith to deny any separation of religion and the state or religion and society.

There are numerous sects within Islam. One and all are extremes and not in the least amenable to change.

Keep in mind that Islam claims that it is the perfect eternal faith for mankind. Splits have occurred and will continue to occur in Islam. Yet, reformation has not happened in nearly 1400 years and is not going to happen.

Islam is carved in granite, just the way it is. No change. Allah’s book is sealed.

There are indeed some Muslims who are moderate in the way they practice their religion. These people, for the most part, are culturally Muslims.

They don’t practice Islam the way it is mandated. They pick and choose. Therefore, “moderate Islam,” is no Islam at all. It is not possible.

The Islamists have created fear not only in a non-Islamic world, but in the hearts and minds of those who consider themselves to be Muslims.

The Islamists wage their war under the name of Islam. They receive immense direct and indirect support from the rank-and-file of ordinary Muslims.

It is this passive support of so-called moderate Muslims that keeps the Islamists alive. And it is the Islamists who are intent on showing no mercy to any and all who do not share their ideology, be they Muslims or not.

Millions of Iranians who were born into a faith they did not choose, a faith that was inflicted upon them by invaders of a foreign culture, a faith that forbids them to leave or revert to their pre-Islamic heritage and other Iraian religions, they remain Muslims in name only.

In conclusion, our best hope for humanity and civilization to survive is to firmly resist Islamofascism in all its forms.

As an Iranian-American, I have experienced first-hand the Islamic tyranny as well as the blessings of liberty. I find it my solemn duty to do all I can to battle Islamofascism, the most dehumanizing active threat of our time.

Manufacturing Victimhood

What happens when you need a story that portrays visa applicants to America from academics in the Middle East as victims of U.S. immigration policies and the Patriot Act, but don’t have the data to back it up? If you’re Middle East Studies Association (MESA) executive director Amy W. Newhall of the University of Arizona, you go on a fishing expedition via the email reproduced below
Campus Watch

Dear MESA members,

Many of us are concerned that our colleagues from outside the US, particularly our Middle Eastern colleagues, encounter unusual difficulties when trying to obtain visas to enter the US for the purposes of attending scholarly meetings or giving invited talks.

We believe this to be true but to what extent is this perception based on reality? Aside from the well known Tariq Ramadan case, MESA has received few reports of visa denials.

Our Committee on Academic Freedom (CAF) would like to know more. Background information of this kind will help the committee when it composes letters objecting to US immigration policies and the Patriot Act.

While I am not asking you to name names, as much detail as possible will help me separate rumor from fact.

Please email your responses directly to me:

Send e-mail

I will collate the raw information for the committee but I will respect any request for confidentiality.

I would be very grateful if you could answer the brief questions below.

1. Are scholars or students denied US visas on the basis of their viewpoints or the topics they study (ideological exclusion)?

If you answered yes, could you explain why you believe this to be true.

2. If you know scholars who were not able to attend a meeting or give a presentation in the US, was it because they were OFFICIALLY DENIED a visa, or was it because the visa did not arrive in time?

If the visa did not arrive in time was it applied for in a timely fashion (in this new world that means 6-8 months ahead) ?

3. Have you ever heard of scholars withdrawing their own visa application upon advice from a consulate or embassy?

4. Have you ever heard of scholars being asked politically charged questions during the interview required of visa applicants?

5. Are foreign scholars and foreign scholars resident in the US now self-censoring to avoid jeopardizing future visas or immigration status?

If you answered yes, could you explain why you believe this to be true.

6. Are foreign scholars giving up on efforts to come to the US? Why?

With thanks for your help,

Giving aid and comfort to the enemy for no purpose other than to give aid and comfort to the enemy.

What would be the best way to convert lots of Americans to Islam?

Forget print, go to film. Put together a handsome documentary with an original musical score that presents Islam’s prophet Muhammad in the most glowing manner, indeed, as a model of perfection.

Round up Muslim and non-Muslim enthusiasts to endorse the nobility and truth of his message.

Splice in vignettes of winsome American Muslims testifying to the justice and beauty of their Islamic faith. Then get the U.S. taxpayer to help pay for it.

In a documentary The Washington Post calls “absorbing, . . . enjoyable and informative,” exotic images of the desert and medieval miniatures mix with scenes of New York City and the American flag.

Born- and convert-American Muslims speak affectingly about their personal bond to their prophet.

Show it at prime time on the most high-minded TV network. Oh, and screen it at least once during the holidays, when anyone out of sync with Christmas might be especially susceptible to another religion’s appeal.
This is precisely what the producers of “Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet” have done.

Reason In Exile

“Religious moderates are themselves the bearers of a terrible dogma:they imagine that the path tp peace will be paved once each of us has learned to respect the unjustified beliefs of others.

The very ideal of religious tolerance-born of the notion that every human being should be free to believe whatever he wants about GOD-is one of the principal forces driving us toward the abyss.

Many religious moderates have taken the apparent high road of pluralism, asserting the equal validity of all faiths, but in doing so they neglect to notice the irredeemably sectarian truth claims of each.

As long as a Christian believes that only his baptized brethren will be saved on the Day of Judgment, he cannot possibly “respect” the beliefs of others, for he knows that the flames of hell have been stoked by these very ideas and await their adherents even now.”

The Fairness Doctrine is Anything But Fair

A.K.A-We can’t compete with them in the forum of ideas, so let’s shut em down.
Legislation currently is before Congress that would reinstate a federal communications policy known as the “fairness doctrine.”

It would codify a 1949 Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulation that once required broadcasters to ”afford reasonable opportunity for the discussion of conflicting views of public importance.”

The fairness doctrine was overturned by the FCC in 1987. The FCC discarded the rule because, contrary to its purpose, it failed to encourage the discussion of more controversial issues.

There were also concerns that it was in violation of First Amendment free speech principles. The legislation now before Congress would enshrine the fairness doctrine into law.

Faulty Premise #1: “Fairness” or “fair access” is best determined by FCC authorities.

Reality: FCC bureaucrats can neither determine what is “fair” nor enforce it.

Faulty Premise #2: The fairness doctrine guarantees that more opinions will be aired.

Reality: Arbitrary enforcement of the fairness doctrine will diminish vigorous debate.

Off With Their Heads!

Some American commentators say that Islamist decapitations are intended as psychological warfare and devoid of any true Islamic content.

Imam Muhammad Adam al-Sheikh, head of the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Falls Church, Virginia, for example, claimed incorrectly that “beheadings are not mentioned in the Koran at all.”

Asma Afsaruddin, an associate professor of Arabic and Islamic studies at the University of Notre Dame, also misrepresented Islamic theology and history when she told a reporter, “There is absolutely no religious imperative for this.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as well as the American Anti-Arab Discrimination Committee (ADC) have both signed on to a statement that such killings “did not represent the tenets of Islam.”

Sam Hamod, former director of the Islamic Center in Washington, D.C., claimed that the Qur’anic passage on beheading unbelievers did not actually mean that people should be killed.

Such fulminations have had an effect: the Western news media has, perhaps as a result of political correctness or its own bias, twisted the reality of Islamic history and propagated such revisionism.

With such apologetics, Western academics either display basic ignorance of their fields or purposely mislead.

The intelligentsia’s denial of any religious roots to the recent spate of decapitation has parallels in the logical back flips and kid-glove treatments in which many professors engaged in order to deny a religious basis for violent jihad.

Afsaruddin and Hamod aside, Islamists justify murder and decapitation with both theological citations and historical precedent.

Groups such as Abu Mus‘ab al-Zarqawi’s Al-Tawhid wa al-Jihad (Unity and Jihad) and Abu ‘Abd Allah al-Hasan bin Mahmud’s Ansar al-Sunna (Defenders of [Prophetic] Tradition)[10] justify the decapitation of prisoners with Qur’anic scripture.

Sura (chapter) 47 contains the ayah (verse): “When you encounter the unbelievers on the battlefield, strike off their heads until you have crushed them completely; then bind the prisoners tightly.”

The practice of beheading non-Muslim captives extends back to the Prophet himself. Ibn Ishaq (d. 768 C.E.), the earliest biographer of Muhammad, is recorded as saying that the Prophet ordered the execution by decapitation of 700 men of the Jewish Banu Qurayza tribe in Medina for allegedly plotting against him. Islamic leaders from Muhammad’s time until today have followed his model. Examples of decapitation, of both the living and the dead, in Islamic history are myriad. Yusuf b. Tashfin (d. 1106) led the Al-Murabit (Almoravid) Empire to conquer from western Sahara to central Spain. After the battle of Zallaqa in 1086, he had 24,000 corpses of the defeated Castilians beheaded “and piled them up to make a sort of minaret for the muezzins who, standing on the piles of headless cadavers, sang the praises of Allah.” He then had the detached heads sent to all the major cities of North Africa and Spain as an example of Christian impotence. The Al-Murabits were conquered the following century by the Al-Muwahhids (Almohads), under whose rule Castilian Christian enemies were beheaded after any lost battles. The Ottoman Empire was the decapitation state par excellence. Upon the Ottoman victory over Christian Serbs at the battle of Kosovo in 1389, the Muslim army beheaded the Serbian king and scores of Christian prisoners. At the battle of Varna in 1444, the Ottomans beheaded King Ladislaus of Hungary and “put his head at the tip of a long pike … and brandished it toward the Poles and Hungarians.” Upon the fall of Constantinople, the Ottomans sent the head of the dead Byzantine emperor on tour to major cities in the sultan’s domains. The Ottomans even beheaded at least one Eastern Orthodox patriarch. In 1456, the sultan allowed the grand mufti of the empire to personally decapitate King Stephen of Bosnia and his sons—even though they had surrendered and, seven decades later, the sultan ordered 2,000 Hungarian prisoners beheaded. In the early nineteenth century, even the British fell victim to the Ottoman scimitar. An 1807 British expedition to Egypt resulted in “a few hundred spiked British heads left rotting in the sun outside Rosetta.” Decapitation has also been quite common among Muslims whenever orthodoxy confronts Mahdist movements. According to Islamic tradition, the Mahdi, or “rightly-guided one” will come before the end of time to usher in a worldwide, perfect Islamic state. Every few generations, a charismatic leader emerges claiming to be the Mahdi. Since the Mahdi is the harbinger of just government, then any leader he challenges is by nature corrupt. The fervor of such claims often leads both the orthodoxy and the Mahdists to label the other unbelievers, allowing them to invoke Qur’anic verse 47:3 and behead captives.,?font>

Islamic civilization is not a historical anomaly in its sanction of decapitation.

The Roman Empire beheaded citizens (such as the Christian Saint Paul) while they crucified non-citizens (such as Jesus Christ).

French revolutionaries employed the guillotine to decapitate opponents.

Nevertheless, Islam is the only major world religion today that is cited by both state and non-state actors to legitimize beheadings.

And two major aspects of decapitation in an Islamic context should be noted: first, the practice has both Qur’anic and historical sanction.

It is not the product of a fabricated tradition.

Second, in contradiction to the assertions of apologists, both Muslim and non-Muslim, these beheadings are not simply a brutal method of drawing attention to the Islamist political agenda and weakening opponents’ will to fight.

Zarqawi and other Islamists who practice decapitation believe that God has ordained them to obliterate their enemies in this manner.

Islam is, for this determined group of Muslims, anything but a “religion of peace.” It is, rather, a religion of the sword with the blade forever at the throat of the unbeliever.

The hardest thing for Westerners to understand is not that a war with militant Islam is underway but rather the nature of the enemy’s ultimate goal.

That goal is to apply the Islamic law (the Shari‘a) globally. In U.S. terms, it intends to replace the Constitution with the Qur’an.

This aspiration is so remote and far-fetched to many non-Muslims, it elicits more guffaws than apprehension.

Of course, that used to be the same reaction in Europe, and now it’s become widely accepted that, in Bernard Lewis’ words, “Europe will be Islamic by the end of the century.”

The Muslim population in this country is not like any other group, for it includes within it a substantial body of people—many times more numerous than the agents of Osama bin Ladin—who share with the suicide hijackers a hatred of the United States and the desire, ultimately, to transform it into a nation living under the strictures of militant Islam
