I’m Dreaming of a White ...

HALLOWEEN????
Free Image Hosting at allyoucanupload.com

Ok, Ok, so it’s not a shock to have snow at my house on Halloween, or Easter for that matter. Of halloween pasts weve had many frost bit fingers and nose tips, snow covered pumpkins, snowball massacres with loss of candy, and many, many costume clad kiddy casualties on frozen sidewalks. But hey, on the good side ... I bet we’re the only ones who can safely hand out popsicles to trick-or-treaters!

Gum Balls of Terror?

Sheesh.. and to think cavities used to be the only association between gum ball machines and kids
rolleyes
DOVER, N.J. (Oct. 11) - Frank Poolas, a burly ex-marine who has been an alderman here for eight years, simply did what many of his fellow politicians have done since Sept. 11: He raised the specter of terrorism.

When Bizarre Is Down Right Fugly

I have now lived long enough to realize the word “bizarre” has more definitions then I care to learn about. The term Scarification falls right up there on the list of bizarre things in life. I have also lived long enough to realize it’s pointless to question why people find a need to do the things they do.
For those of you unfamiliar to the concept of scarification, I must warn you scarification is quite graphic and if you consider yourself squeamish ... just take my word for it, it’s just ugly and gross.
Let’s start with a short definition of scarification: THESE ARE NOT MY WORDS, TERMS, THOUGHTS, OR ANYTHING CLOSE TO BEING “KOSHER” IN MY VIEW
“Scarification is the creative and artistic application of scars in a controlled manner to achieve an aesthetically or spiritually pleasing result. Scarification is considered to be different than Self-Harm, in the body modification community because it is mainly for cosmetic purposes rather than a way to cope with undue stress.
Many people that do these forms of body modification are doing it to mark a rite of passage in their lives. Even though many people hold that scarification is no more painful than tattooing, it is somehow more “intense” to most people. It has very symbolic meaning to them and often their peers or partners.
Typically the goal of scarification is to get raised scarring, preferably keloid scarring, but most people usually heal  to hypertrophic scarring. Because scarification has a three dimensional aspect, many people enjoy the feeling of healed scars (like the ad says, “Chicks dig scars.”). As a rule of thumb, darker skin tones usually have better scarring than lighter skin tones.”
In other words: These people, purposely cut themselves to produce scaring on their body and claim it as “art”. It is not only dangerously stupid ... it’s downright fugly.
WARNING: the following images are extremely graphic!!!! (But by far, not the most graphic available)

Strange Facts You Maybe Didn’t Know Maybe Don’t Want To Know But Now Know

Tradition of “Mooning The Amtrak”
Free Image Hosting at allyoucanupload.com

Patrons keep alive the cheeky tradition and the Mugs Away Saloon’s ritual attracts thousands of bare bums to Southern California every second Saturday in July. On the day of the annual “Mooning of the Amtrak” you’ll find crowds of cars, campers, trailers, trucks, motor homes and motor cycles all over the area. People of ALL sizes, shapes, gender, and adult ages imaginable attend the gathering.

It all started in 1979, at The Mugs Away Saloon, K.T.Smith told his buddies he’d buy a drink for anyone who would “moon” the next train, which many did. The mooning tradition has prevailed, but there is no longer a volunteer to buy free drinks  for thousands of “Mooners.” The train rides for that particular Saturday are booked a year in advance.

WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE MOONING? No one. No one organizes or is responsible for this annual event.  It just happens!

Useless knowledge is fun, huh?

Pro Bono or Pro Bank-o?

If attorneys get paid for pro bono work, is it still pro bono? Absolutely NOT!

Free Image Hosting at allyoucanupload.com

Lawyers at Davis Wright Tremaine didn’t charge a parent group for seven years of work on a U.S. Supreme Court case against Seattle Public Schools: They took the case pro bono.
But now that the firm is trying to collect $1.8 million in legal fees from the school district, several national legal experts say the term — technically, “pro bono publico,” meaning “for the public good” — may no longer apply. Seattle Times

Already financially burdened school districts shouldn’t have to fork over millions of dollars to line the pockets of law firms.
Let’s turn the lil’ law book around and look at it a different way. Let’s say, the kind public concerning law firm, Davis Wright Tremaine, was representing the school district in this case(pro bono of course), and won. In other words, the parents of these students lost. Case closed and we all go back to our daily lives. WRONG! These fine lawyers from Davis Wright Tremaine need to go collect the $1.8 million it costs then for defending their clients, (defending their clients pro bono of course). Right?
(Side note: in researching Davis Wright Tremaine, I became aware of our former governor Gary Locke’s partnership in this firm. eww.. do I smell a DimoRAT in the firm or what)

The Carrie Nation Drinking Fountain Monument
This drinking fountain dedicated to that hatchet wielding prohibitionist, Carry A. Nation, sits in a park at the corner of Douglas and St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas

Normally, at 6 foot tall, 180lb, Mrs Carrie Nation could attract the attention of most who saw her. Even more so, while wielding a hatchet, she was downright skeery. In 1900, Mrs. Nation’s vengeance was the consumption of alcoholic liquors. Mrs. Nation, felt it was her duty to tempestuously promote total abstinence from alcohol. Her short elucidative marriage to an alcoholic, heighten Mrs. Nation’s hatred for alcohol. Kiowa, Kansas was the lucky recipient of Mrs. Nation’s first “calling of destruction in the name of temperance in 1900. Between 1900 and 1910 she was arrested over 30 times for leading a band of followers in the destruction of one water hole after another as she shouted “Smash, ladies, smash!” Even the prize-fighter John L. Sullivan was said to have run and hid when Mrs. Nation burst into his New York City saloon. Self-righteous and formidable, Mrs.Nation mocked her opponents as “rum-soaked, whiskey-swilled, saturn-faced rummies.”
Ironically,  the fountain was originally in front of Union Station, but it was moved after being knocked over by a beer truck.
Useless knowledge is fun, huh?

Convicted Terrorist Lawyer To Teach Legal Ethics

Terrorist lawyer Lynne Stewart will teach Legal Ethics at Hofstra Law School while on a medical stay from prison.
Hmm… seems to me if shes well enough to teach, she could probably do a lil’ of her sentenced time too?
Stewart is sentenced to 28 months in prison… the maximum was 30years but she got away with a lot less. She is convicted on five counts of providing material aid to terrorism and lying to the government. She is guilty of conspiring with an imprisoned terrorist client, Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, she aided this terrorist in communicating with his militant Islamic followers in Egypt.
Mind you this wasn’t just a slip up of any sort. She took the messages from the convicted terrorist, Rahman and delivered them to Egypt for him.
And she will be teaching Legal ETHICS?????
HAH… according to the school website  this disbarred lawyer, the conference will feature “dynamic speakers who will weigh in on controversial issues such as prosecutorial abuse, the challenges of representing prisoners at Guantanamo, and attacks on lawyers who represent unpopular clients and causes.”
Apparently, teaching is considered part of her grueling cancer therapy. Although, her lawyers deny that she is seeking any special treatment from the court. “We’re not asking for anything out of the ordinary, beyond what is reasonable for the therapy she is undergoing for her cancer,” LOL, is that so .... pff!
