A bit of light morning reading.

This should scare the hell out of people.

Here are a couple of choice quotes, “Slowly but surely authorities around the world are turning their attention to online games and virtual worlds and the tax-exempt status of the economic activity taking place within them.” and “Some wish them well, some wish them ill, but many are just pondering how to go about taxing goods and services that are by their nature immaterial.”

Taxes on transactions of real money through online activities already exist and are being collected. Some of these nimrods are pushing taxes on nonexistent items and currency.

Go check out Professor Seto’s take on the whole subject. And consider how people who want to increase tax revenue see this.

This ranks right up there with carbon taxes, and it could very possibly net billions of “dollars” that don’t actually exist, further distorting the economies of every country that does it. Much like artificially raising property values.

Have these idiots not learned from the “.com bubble” fiasco at all?

Funny, why is this not being screeched at full force caterwaul?

This is the first I have seen of this. Why all the silence from the leftards, hmmm? I am shocked, shocked I say, that Arnie would even mention economic status in vetoing this. The immediate response to such is usually a wavery cry of “Thats why it is so important!!”. And yet, merely a whimper is heard. My, my.

For your perusal, This very artfully written article.

"Solar wind blows at 50-year low”

Interesting headline, to say the least. It gets better,"They expect the reduced output to have effects right across the Solar System.”. Although he makes the obligatory, backhanded pass at how much effect the Sun has on Earth’s climate,"Some researchers have attempted to link the intensity of cosmic rays at Earth to cloudiness and climate change.”, the piece steers well clear of environmental implication.

Artful, indeed.

A question for Veterans at Sayanything.

Gentlemen, Lady, I want to hear your thoughts on this, ”Marine Denied Medal of Honor”.

A little helping of misleading, anyone?

The headline,"D.C. Legislation Would Remove More Gun Limits” seems simple enough. Then you actually read what the DC Council is actually purposing.

“The council proposal does not give residents blanket approval to own semiautomatic pistols, which have become the most popular kinds of handguns. It would ban magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds. It also would repeal a regulation barring a gun owner from registering more than one pistol. In addition, the legislation would do away with the requirement that handgun registrants submit their weapons to D.C. police for ballistics testing.”

The trimming off of a bit of window dressing, and little more.

Lets go back to what AG Nickles had to say in June,"Peter J. Nickles, the city’s acting attorney general, echoed other D.C. officials in June in saying that the District would continue to have tough firearms laws. “We are going to strictly regulate the registration of handguns,” he said at the time. “And there will be no authorization of automatics or semiautomatics.”. It would appear that the Attorney General’s office is in “duck&dodge” mode and will work in secret to keep as many restrictions on the Constitutional Rights of the residents of the District of Columbia as they can.

By all means, please read the whole article, and go back to June and see what the panjandrums of DC had to say about citizens and their rights.

Paul Krugman; Democrats are not elitist snobs.

A lovely bit of comedy for your Friday morning.

This nugget"the Republican Party, now more than ever, is firmly in the hands of the angry right, which has always been much bigger, much more influential and much angrier than its counterpart on the other side.” had me rolling on the floor laughing first thing this morning. Not as much as this"What struck me as I watched the convention speeches, however, is how much of the anger on the right is based not on the claim that Democrats have done bad things, but on the perception — generally based on no evidence whatsoever — that Democrats look down their noses at regular people.” too funny. Paul should be writing for Leno or SNL.

Be sure to read the whole thing. His Nixon spiel is equally hilarious.

Russia observes truce by facilitating looting and destruction of civilian homes and businesses.

According to WaPo. And NYT clarifies the failure of this truce from its 02:00 start. And Russian Officers herald the phoenix like rise of Mother Russia. And then, there is this rather misleading headline a BBC,” Russians begin Georgia handover”. Yet, in reading the article we see that no such thing is happening.

And then we have an AParticle at Fox, detailing Russian moves into Zugdidi, and the port city of Poti.

Wow, this truce certainly has all the appearance of an invasion. (more...)

What the hell was this editor thinking!

"Crisis Eclipses Mugabe’s Comeback”

The article , which must have been cobbled together from pieces written by several people(at least one of which is a complete idiot) is not that bad. It only smears a thin coat of paint over the murdering thug Mugabe. That headline, on the other hand, is simply appalling.

Dan Eggen is the only person whose name is listed on this piece of journalistic crap, so I guess it is at his feet the blame for the attempt to whitewash the terrorism, torture, and murder of the last 3 months. The headline is breath taking in its stupidity and willful ignorance. The opening pair of paragraphs are just gravy over the top.

“HARARE, Zimbabwe, July 28—President Robert Mugabe has emerged from the most tumultuous election in Zimbabwe’s history with his grip on power restored but his nation’s daunting problems—including hyperinflation, international isolation and an exodus of skilled workers—dramatically worsened.

Between March 29, when he lost a first-round vote to a surging opposition, and Friday, when Mugabe presumably romped to victory unopposed in a runoff election, sparsely stocked store shelves here emptied, long bread lines grew longer, and inflation soared from several hundred thousand percent to millions.”

Read the whole thing, see if you can separate which sections were written by different people. They kinda stood out to me, but perhaps I am just to critical.

And no, I ain’t gonna hattip this one. Whoever put this on the front page of WaPo don’t need credited, they need their pay docked for this atrocity.

Another entry for the Oops File!

"Hamas set off massive Gaza blast”

The headline is a bit misleading, as if they intended to blowedup their own operational base. Lets us check the details!

“Members of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades were trying to prepare for a Jihad operation,” the Hamas movement’s armed wing said in a statement.” Can you say incompetence? I knew you could!

Just a little different from their initial statement,"Hamas had initially blamed the explosion on an Israeli air strike and responded with rocket fire, but Israel denied any involvement.”. Kinda hard to take back a statement made with Katusha and Al Qassam rockets, wouldn’t you say.

But,,but,,,I thought only Mormons did this!

A bit of “inconvenient truth” about Islam and some of its adherents.

His initial defense,"Muhummed, whose birth name was Richard Boddie, told authorities that his Muslim faith gave him the right to take multiple wives.” kind of falls by the wayside at the end,"On the stand, in sometimes tearful testimony he denied the charges and blamed one of his wives for the alleged abuse.”.

The question I would like answered is, where are all the moderate Muslims condemning this piece of crap?

And 9 years?!?!? You have got to be kidding me!"Doctors said the children were extremely malnourished. A 19-year-old daughter was 4-foot-1 and weighed 56 pounds.”. Exactly how did he get away with this for that long? Was it incompetence or political correctness that allowed this to be dragged out for so long, not to mention the fact that the abuse had been going for years before he was arrested.

Perhaps an anonymous phone call, informing the authorities that he was a Mormon would have got swifter action.

Iran fesses up.

” Top security official: Iran ready to restore peace, stability in Iraq”

This statement from one of the architects terrorism in Iraq is not getting much play. Wonder why?

What leftards will latch on to and screech about is this sentence,"The Iraqi prime minister, in return, expressed his gratitude to Iran’s assistance to his country and said that Iraq was ready to make use of Iran’s “valuable experiences in the areas of politics, economy, culture and defense.”, and completely ignore the minor fact that Iran is training, financing, and supplying terrorists who have murdered thousands of innocent Iraqis children, women, and men. Not to mention Coalition and Iraqi soldiers and police. That point will be entirely ignored.

Uniform Clarification/Vindication for Ssgt Minor.

From our connection to DeptState, Consul at arms, a follow up on the story of 3 time combat volunteer Staff Sargent Jeremiah Minor.

“General: GIs can wear combat patch of choice
By Nancy Montgomery, Stars and Stripes
Mideast edition, Sunday, June 01, 2008”

“By regulation, Soldiers who have been on multiple deployments with different units have the option of wearing their unit combat patch of their choice based on war-time service,” Maj. Gen. Mark Hertling, the commander of the 1st Armored Division and Task Force Iron in northern Iraq, wrote in an e-mailed memo Monday. “I encourage leaders at all levels to inform soldiers on the provisions of AR 670-1 ... and ensure they know they can adorn their uniform with the authorized combat patch of their preference,” the memo said.”

Now, we can only hope that the Officers and senior NCOs of 1st CAB will not bring any reprisals against SSG Minor, a decorated troop who has volunteered far above and beyond anything expected of him.

Be sure to make a sweep through CAA’s AO and to spread the word. Troops need support, in many forms. Lets let SSG Minor and other soldiers in similar situations know we are backstopping them!

h/t to Stars and Stripes and Consul At Arms.

Well, well.

Here is one realitydenyingboob missed! Wonder why?

“Filings Detail Currie Items
Agents Seized Tax, Bank Records From Senator’s House”

That is Maryland Democrat Ulysses Currie. Just to be clear.

A bit to whet the appetite,"The documents show they also found marijuana and “drug packaging materials” in a bag on a dresser and in various other bags on the floor of one room at the District Heights home of the Prince George’s Democrat. It is not clear in which room the drugs were found.”

Oops. How’d that get there?

Hey, boob? I thought only Republicans were corrupt.

Report: NASA Distorted Global-Warming Studies!

Looks bad, doesn’t it? Yet, that is not what the report says at all. It clearly states that the research, you know, the “studies” were not interfered with at all. Lets check!

“ NASA’s inspector general office called it “inappropriate political interference” by political appointees in the press office.” That is the second line in the Fox article. But hey, Fox lies, so lets us check further.

“An investigation by the NASA inspector general found that political appointees in the space agency’s public affairs office worked to control and distort public accounts of its researchers’ findings about climate change for at least two years, the inspector general’s office said yesterday.” The opening paragraph of Juliet Eilperin’s article. At least WaPo has a less misleading headline,"Climate Findings Were Distorted, Probe Finds”.

And then, way down in the piece, we see that the research was not distorted or hampered."The political interference did not extend to the research itself or its dissemination through scientific journals and conferences, the investigators said. “We found no evidence indicating NASA blocked or interfered with the actual research activities of its climate scientists,” the report said, but as a result of the actions of the political appointees, “trust was lost, at least temporarily, between the agency and some of its key employees and perhaps the public it serves.”, although the claim that trust was lost is made.

The best part? NASA research data is what has torpedoed the whole “Global Warming” fear mongering ship. Hence the rapid shift to “Global Climactic Change”, cause as we all know the “climate” never changed before. It has always been sunny, pleasant, idyllic throughout the entire existence of the planet.

And now NASA data claims that Global Climactic Change is happening on Jupiter! Is there no end to the evil machinations of the human race?!?!?!?
