I love www.fark.com - oops, I just gave away my favorite news source. They beat Drudge in the no-slanted free-for-all postings, and like Drudge they link the original posters of the story instead of taking the words, running them through a thesaurus, and claiming them as their own like oh so many news organizations.

Ninety-nine percent of the horror stories that came from Katrina Superdome evacuees were pure-dee bullsh*t - what a slug! And a quote from the story too:

Orleans Parish District Attorney Eddie Jordan said authorities had confirmed only four murders in New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina - making it a typical week in a city that anticipated more than 200 homicides this year. Jordan expressed outrage at reports from many national media outlets that suffering flood victims had turned into mobs of unchecked savages.

"I had the impression that at least 40 or 50 murders had occurred at the two sites," he said. "It's unfortunate we saw these kinds of stories saying crime had taken place on a massive scale when that wasn't the case. And they (national media outlets) have done nothing to follow up on any of these cases, they just accepted what people (on the street) told them. ... It's not consistent with the highest standards of journalism."

Point is - if it weren't for "The Blogosphere", the MSM could have (and still might) get away with the representation that it was complete mayhem down there. No doubt it was hell. But there sure wasn't any cannibalism as reported - in fact, I can't even find the link to that jokester who reported it, it was disputed so quickly.
