Back in April John Kerry was accusing George W. Bush of using his oil business connections to lower gas prices and boost America's economy before the election.

New York Times - Today, Senator John Kerry quickly seized on Mr. Woodward's assertion on Sunday that the Saudi ambassador to the United States had agreed that his country would make sure that oil prices did not get too out of hand and would lower them to boost the American economy prior to the election -- a decision that would presumably help Mr. Bush politically.

"That is outrageous and unacceptable to the American people," Mr. Kerry, the presumed Democratic presidential nominee, declared during a campaign stop in Florida, where the price of gas is a serious issue given the state's reliance on the automobile and fuel costs' effect on tourism.

Now, just under a month away from the election, Kerry is accusing Bush of keeping gas prices high in order to benefit his oil industry connections.

SANTA FE, N.M. - Tapping into unhappiness about higher prices at the gasoline pump, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said Monday that President Bush has done more to help energy companies boost their profits than to help consumers with soaring energy costs.

"When it comes to developing a real energy policy, George Bush has run out of gas," Kerry said. "The money that you're paying at the pump is going directly from your wallets straight into the hands of the oil companies and the oil producers."

Well, which is it? Is Bush conspiring with Saudi oil connections to keep gas prices low or is he conspiring with the oil industry to keep prices high for maximum profits?

Neither, if you ask me. This is just two different versions of Kerry's campaign rhetoric. One is meant for use when gas prices are going down and the other is meant for when they're going up.
