Republican Senator Says U.S. Needs Iraq Exit Strategy Now - Los Angeles Times
WASHINGTON — As President Bush prepared to hit the road this week to bolster public support for his policies in Iraq, a senior Republican senator said Sunday that the United States needed to craft an exit strategy because its continued presence had created a potential Vietnam.

"We should start figuring out how we get out of there," Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska said on ABC's "This Week." "I think our involvement there has destabilized the Middle East. And the longer we stay there, I think the further destabilization will occur."

I have a question that has been bothering me for quite some time. Isn't "stay until Iraq is ready for self governance" a plan? Are people who are demanding a plan really looking for a "back-up" or "contingency" plan?

Personally, I see the President as having a plan. "We're not done until they're self reliant," is a plan. Any other plans would be contingencies for failure.

The fact that he hasn't announced a contingency plan just tells me that he's not interested in broadcasting our conditions of failure.

I don't carry the Presidents water on MANY domestic issues, but with Iraq and the war on terror, I think he's been damn good.
