Well, a coalition of folks are ticked including the Sierra Club, the Navajos (who claim the land is sacred), and another Arizona tribe that runs a competing resort on their own sacred mountain. Now all of these groups have different interests, but they all want the same thing: the resort closed.
Now that doesn't bother me. To each their own, I guess. What does bother me is this:
Using reclaimed wastewater on the San Francisco Peaks' Snowbowl amounts to desecration of a sacred Holy site of the Navajos, said Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. By allowing this desecration "the United States of America will commit genocide."
Or this:
Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. told a U.S. District Court on Wednesday that proposed development of the sacred Dook'o'sliid would be like having a child witness the brutal violation of its mother, leaving it emotionally and psychologically scared forever.
According to Communications Director George Hardeen, the President testified, "It's like someone coming in and violating and raping our mother. It hurts me. She's already got scars."
A ski resort = genocide and rape and torture.
I am going to put things in perspective for the Sierra Club. They filed and are funding the lawsuits to stop this "travesty" of a ski resort from occurring. If they want to be involved with lawsuits making these sorts of accusations, let's bring in Amnesty International to investigate the US Government for committing rape and genocide by allowing skiing. Start a UN Investigation too, for good measure.
The Sierra Club is spending their money on this, while their lefty cohorts are against a war to get rid of a guy that was actually raping mothers and committing genocide and filling mass graves.
But let's leave WMD's and all that out of this, because while Saddam may have either destroyed, moved or hidden the WMD's, he did not hide the rape rooms and mass graves. These people equate skiing to genocide and rape, but what Saddam was doing was not a threat to anyone? They need to speak out and stop a ski resort from expanding because of religious and cultural issues, but they don't think the same US Government should stop a man from exterminating the Kurds in northern Iraq?
See, that is Genocide. If you gamble at Indian Casinos run by the competing White Mountain Apache tribe or any of the other tribes that are funding this attack and this rhetoric, you need to carefully consider this. They are using your gambled away money to fund attacks on our nation and demean the real atrocities that have occured to both their forefathers and to the Kurds as well as the folks in Darfur.
We are now a nation that puts more value on whether or not UND can call themselves the "Fighting Sioux" and whether a sacred mountain being skied on is more genocidal and evil than Saddam.
These people would probably be against military intervention in Darfur, but they should don't mind stopping me from committing genocide with my skis.
