And before any liberals go about screeching about how Obama was right all along (let’s remember that the messiah would have pulled the troops out of Iraq and abandoned the Iraqi government to face the terrorists on their own long ago) let’s remember that this is a “goal” for troop withdrawal that is contingent upon conditions on the ground.  Not a set-in-stone timetable of the sort Obama and supports that would have our troops out of Iraq no matter what happens.

BAGHDAD - Iraq and the U.S. are near an agreement on all American combat troops leaving Iraq by October 2010, with the last soldiers out three years after that, two Iraqi officials told The Associated Press on Thursday. U.S. officials, however, insisted no dates had been agreed.

The left and the media (I repeat myself) will want to focus on the nuances between a Obama’s “timetable” and the Bush administrations “goal,” but the real story that will be ignored is that we are now talking about leaving Iraq.  On our terms.  With the terrorists defeated and the Iraqis prospering under a representative government.

After years of comparisons to Vietnam, and attempts to impeach President Bush for war crimes, isn’t that fantastic news?  And an indicator for just how horribly wrong the liberal left (including Obama) has been on Iraq since day #1 of the war?
