Update:
Philadelphia Eagles suspend Terrell Owens indefinitely for "conduct detrimental to the team."

Terrell Owens, in a recent ESPN interview, throws his quarterback, Donovan McNabb, under the proverbial bus.

"If Donovan wasn't hurt our record would probably be better," Owens said Thursday night.

ESPN analyst Michael Irvin recently said the Eagles would be undefeated if [Brett] Favre were the starting quarterback.

Asked for his thoughts on Irvin's comment, Owens said: "That's a good assessment, I would agree with that, just with what [Favre] brings to the table.

"A number of commentators will say he's a warrior, he's played with injuries. I feel like him being knowledgeable about the quarterback position, I feel like we'd probably be in a better situation."

Translation:

* Donovan McNabb is not tough.
* Donovan McNabb is not knowledgeable about the QB position.

What a fabulous teammate Terrell Owens is.

First, McNabb has played in every Eagles game this season despite being injured since the preseason with a hernia. As the regular season has progressed, McNabb has sustained additional injuries (soreness/stiffness resulting from bruised ribs), but so far, has continued to play through them. As of late Friday, it looks like he'll suit up for this weekend's matchup against the 'Skins as well.

This begs the question: How has the injured, non-gamer, not-knowledgeable McNabb performed in the Eagles seven games (Record: 4-3) so far?

Well, he's averaging 290 passing yards per game (2nd overall) and has thrown 15 touchdowns (again, 2nd overall).

Not bad.

He's also second (by a paltry 3 yards) in total yards passing. In fact, put it all together, and you find that the Eagles, led by McNabb, are the #1 passing team in the NFL.

Factor in the fact that they rank dead-last (32nd) in rushing, and you begin to realize just how big McNabb has come up for this team. They can't run the ball effectively. He has to throw. He can't move well due to his injuries, so he has to hang in the pocket and take a beating (15 sacks through 7 games, plus innumerable other hits). He still puts up the numbers.

Without McNabb, the Eagles are toast.

But T.O. still pines for Brett Favre. Because you, know, Favre's tough and Donovan isn't. What a crock.

T.O. even had the gall to complain that the Eagles showed him no respect by failing to recognize his 100th career TD catch during the Eagles home game against the Chargers back on 10/23.

"That right there just shows you the type of class and integrity that they claim not to be," said Owens, who became the sixth receiver in NFL history to reach the milestone. "They claim to be first class and the best organization. It's an embarrassment. It just shows a lack of class they have. My publicist talked to the head PR guy, and they made an excuse they didn't recognize that was coming up. But that was a blatant lie. Had it been somebody else, they probably would have popped fireworks around the stadium."

Terrell Owens accusing someone else of lacking class is akin to Saddam Hussein lecturing another country about their human rights violations. It's preposterous.

Is it classy to publicly whine that you want a new contract one year into a 7-year, $49 million dollar deal that you yourself signed? I didn't think so. At the time he began lobbying for a renegotiation of his current contract, Owens was even quoted as saying, "This isn't about me being greedy or selfish." Whatever you say, buddy.

As you may well imagine, the Eagles organization has about had it with Terrell's remarks. Facing a possible suspension (Andy Reid, the Eagles' head coach, has kept his options open), Owens apologized for what he said about the Eagles and Donovan McNabb.

"I've had an opportunity to talk with the Eagles organization and I have learned that the team does not recognize individual achievements," Owens said in a prepared statement. "It has been brought to my attention that I have offended the organization and my teammates. Therefore, I would like to apologize for any derogatory comments toward them."

A few words of advice to Owens: Shut up and play football. Be glad you have a player of McNabb's caliber to get the ball into you hands.
