The WMD Thing: I’m Underwhelmed

Having had a day to think about the big WMD's story from yesterday I've got to say...I'm underwhelmed, and puzzled as to why Santorum and Republicans think this was a good political move.

As I pointed out yesterday, the existence of chemical weapons is nothing new. Our troops have been running across weapons containing sarin gas for the last couple of years. None of those discoveries convinced the anti-war types on the WMD's issue back then, why would anyone think that 500 more of these weapons is going change anyone's mind now?

I think it's great that this information was made public, but the way Santorum and others have made a big deal about it I think all they've done is leave themselves open for ridicule. A typical response to this is exemplified by Grand Forks radio host Dakota Huseby:

Finding toxic garbage is validation?

Well, it does prove that Saddam did not get rid of all of his chemical weapons as he was ordered to do by UN resolution...but as I've pointed out before we've known that. And it still hasn't convinced critics of the war.

Releasing this information was good, but hyping it the way it has been was just plain dumb.
