Gwyneth Paltrow, honoring an agreement with Apple Computers, has named her recently-born child after the computer company.

Well, not really.

From The Scotsman:

HOLLYWOOD star Gwyneth Paltrow has given birth to her first child - a baby girl - at a London hospital, it emerged yesterday.

The actress gave birth to her daughter after a "long labour". She and her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, have named her Apple Blythe Alison Martin.

The baby weighed 9 pounds 11 ounces when she was born on Friday and both mother and baby were said to be doing fine.

Celebrities name their children the strangest things. Not that I care, I guess, but sometimes I feel sorry for the kids who have to go through life with some goofy name.

On a related note, what's with weird name spellings these days? I've noticed this trend among female friends who have had babies. They pick normal names but choose to spell them in a non-traditional fashion. Like "Shayne" instead of "Shane" or "Maree" instead of "Marie. Has anybody else noticed that or am I just being to picky? Why are these parents dooming their children to a life of having to explain how their names are spelled?
