Anyone remember that Mark Foley guy?

(AP) Six months after resigning from Congress, former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley remains under criminal investigation for sexually explicit Internet communications with underage boys but has not been charged, authorities said Wednesday.

“I can’t really give any more detail other than to say we’re still in the preliminary investigative stance and we are working with state authorities,” said Debra Weierman, spokeswoman for the FBI’s Washington field office.

EM Zanotti opines:

Could it be that he didn’t do anything that was against the law, and that his scandal was mostly manufactured as a clever pre-election stunt?

I never doubted that it was a pre-election stunt aimed at destroying Republicans, nor have I ever questioned that it was appropriate for Foley to step down from his House seat for his inappropriate behavior, but whether or not he actually broke any laws has never exactly been clear to my mind.

The fact that he hasn’t been charged with a thing after six months sort of settles the question, I guess.
