TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran may win Arab friends by pledging $50 million to the cash-strapped Palestinian Authority, but at home the Islamic Republic's largesse received a mixed response on Monday.
‘I wish they had thought of the likes of me before they went lavishing Iranian money on others,’ said Farideh, as she sought donations in a south Tehran street to buy her dead son a gravestone.”
The story does not elaborate as to why the woman had no money and was begging on the streets, or the cause of her son’s death, but I couldn’t help but think that at least she is making the effort on his behalf. Which is a good deal more than Cindy Sheehan’s done for her son Casey.
Our government offers a gravestone for all servicemen and women killed in combat... for those next of kin who can find the time to accept the offer.
