To the folks that I know
Tell them I won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singing this song"
"We'll meet again,
Don't know where,
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day"
We'll Meet Again
By Johnny Cash, the last song on his last album: "American IV: The Man Comes Around"
On this date, at 1:00am EDT, the Man in Black took his last breath in this world. Mr. Johnny Cash died from respitory failure brought on by complications from diabetes. Learning the news this morning sparked a great sadness in me, but I knew this day was coming soon. Earlier this year Johnny's wife, June Carter-Cash, died leaving him without his soulmate. Johnny has been in poor health for some time now and with the loss of his wife I think all his fans new that it was just a matter of time.

Johnny Cash transcended musical boundaries for me. His recordings taught me that great music can be appreciated by anybody. He proved his point right up until his last album, on which he recorded the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt." His soulful voice brought new meaning to a song that I hadn't really noticed before, despite being a fan of Nine Inch Nails. He was influential to Bob Dylan, though his simple songs have inspired, and continue to inspire, entire generations of musicians.
If any of you who are reading this haven't heard Johnny Cash, I would recommend you give him a try. Forget about anything you think you know about country music and give him an honest listen. I don't think you'll be dissappointed. And if you happen to be drinking a beer, pour a little out for Johnny.
He would have wanted it that way.
