From one of the left’s more influential bloggers:

Josh Marshall posted this interesting quote, showing that Bush’s comments today (and a gazillion times before)are not exactly original:

If we quit Vietnam,” President Lyndon Johnson warned, “tomorrow we’ll be fighting in Hawaii, and next week we’ll have to fight in San Francisco.”

That’s just as crackled as Bush’s nonsensical statement that the “oceans don’t protect us anymore” and that kind of dumbass reasoning is why Johnson was booted out.

Except, in reality, the ocean’s have already failed to protect us.  Anyone remember 9/11?  The trade center coming down?  The Pentagon smoldering?  How about the 1993 bombing of the trade center?

The enemy has already attacked us on our own soil.  The whole point of going to the middle east was to fight them on their turf instead of ours and to ultimately change the economic and social conditions that breed terrorism.  And that’s exactly what is happening.  Bin Laden himself has called the war in Iraq a “war of destiny,” indicating that it is the central front in the war on terror.

If our enemy feels that Iraq is the central battlefield how foolish are we not to take them at their word?  How dumb does one have to be in order to consider it a good idea to pull our troops back within our borders and wait for the terrorists to hit us here at home again?
