Ed Morrissey has what is perhaps the most important political point from last night’s elections:
Obama will still be president for another three years, but the mystique is gone. New Jersey just taught Democrats in Congress a big lesson — Obama can’t get them re-elected.
Liberals, of course, are going to focus on Hoffman as a failure for conservatism. But I don’t think that’s quite accurate.
Even though Hoffman lost, the GOP was sent a message. And that message, as James Pethokoukis pointed out yesterday, is that trying to cram liberal Republican candidates down the throats of the base is a non-starter.
It’s not going to work.
That in and of itself is a victory.
