The latest rocket and bomb attacks in Baghdad are only the most recent in a series of setbacks for the Bush administration that threaten to turn Iraq into a politicalliability just as the 2004 election cycle is beginning.
Only last week, the administration suffered a defeat in Congress when the Senate voted to turn part of an $87-billion supplemental spending bill for Iraq into loans rather than outright grants over strong objections from President George W. Bush.
From ABC News:
President Bush on Monday blamed rising violence in Iraq on U.S. progress being made there, saying coalition successes are making insurgents more desperate.
Bush spoke only hours after bombings in postwar Baghdad killed dozens of people and after conferring at the White House with the top U.S. general and civilian official in Iraq.
"The more progress we make on the ground, the more free the Iraqis become, the more electricity that's available, the more jobs are available, the more kids that are going to school, the more desperate these killers become," Bush told reporters.
How can voters hold President Bush responsible for the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq? Our President is doing everything he can to help the citizens in Iraq. He would have given them billions of dollars with no strings attached to let them rebuild their country if not for Democrats in congress who decided to change it into a loan. He has troops there trying to stabilize the area while he continues to ask the rest of the world for help. What more can he possibly do to help get this country on its feet?
Yet everytime these Muslim extremists decide to murder some people the President is held responsible. Shouldn't be terrorists doing the killing be held responsible? We are the good guys in this situation. We are the ones trying to liberate the people of Iraq and give them new liberties and freedoms. The terrorists are resisting these efforts to assist them in rebuilding their own country.
The spin being put on these attacks by Bush's opponents is that the situation in Iraq is out of control. I can tell you that many issues in Iraq could be dealt with a lot quicker without constant interference from the Democratic party.
