Al Sharpton, transparent charlatan and hypocritical race baiter emeritus, was arrested today in New York after leading protests over the acquittal of the three New York officers in the shooting of Sean Bell:
NEW YORK (CBS) ― The Rev. Al Sharpton and nearly 200 others were arrested Wednesday amid a series of protests throughout the city, part of a response to the acquittals of three New York City undercover detectives in the 50-shot killing of Sean Bell.
Hundreds took to the streets in Manhattan and Brooklyn as part of the citywide “slowdown” effort led by Sharpton and his National Action Network. Police have arrested those who took part in acts of civil disobedience by blocking the streets to rally, along with entrances to the Triborough, Manhattan, and Brooklyn bridges.
Sharpton was arrested without incident at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge, along with Bell’s fiancé, Nicole Paultre Bell, and the two shooting victims who survived, Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman.
Bell’s parents were also arrested.
But it isn’t just about Sean Bell. It’s about grabbing their fifteen minutes of fame, as this statement shows:
“We have to stand up for something or we’ll fall for anything. It’s not just about Sean Bell, it’s about every man that’s been injustly killed in America,” he said. “The point to make to the people is to get their attention. It could be their son tomorrow or their daughter tomorrow.”
The three officers were acquitted in open court. And, yeah, it’s easy to sit back and second guess what those officers saw or thought they saw on a dark street, and it’s easy to say that the man was unarmed. If those officers had known that, they wouldn’t have fired. There wasn’t a murder committed here. There was a tragic mistake made in a split second on a dark street.
But the acquittal in court isn’t enough for Sharpton and his ilk. They want to destroy those officers. The fact that they may have shot an unarmed man already has impacted their lives and their families, and their careers. They’re not killer robots. They’re human beings.
I have to wonder though.....if those three officers had all been black, and Sean Bell had been white, just what Al Sharpton’s take on it would be if mobs of mostly white protesters blocked streets and demanded that they be punished even after a court acquitted them.
He’d still be in the street protesting. Only then he would be calling the persecution of three black officers by a white mob a “lynching”.
It’s not justice he’s after. It’s job security.
