Its not often that a movie can be funny, endearing and entertaining all at the same time. Second Hand Lions pulls it off.
Michael Caine and Robert Duvall play a pair of very eccentric and very rich uncles to Haley Joel Osment. Osment is dumped in rural Texas to live with Duvall and Caine in a dilapadated old house. The plot is predictable. Duvall and Caine are grumpy old men with hearts of gold underneath the gruff exterior. They come to Osments side in his moment of tribulation and help him grow to be a good man.
What's unique about this movie are the main characters. The stories behind Hub and Garth McCaan (Duvall and Caine) are outrageous and propell this movie beyond the schtick acting from the bit players (Osment's mother, the traveling salesmen, etc.) The obvious chemistry between Osment, Duvall and Caine jumps right out of the screen and when combined with the very original story line you can't help but be entertained.
I would recommend this movie to anybody looking for a good date movie or a good movie to bring the familiy too.
