What is perhaps most frustrating about Schumer's aspersions cast toward gun owners is the fact that, as violent crime has declined steeply in this country, the number of guns present in our society has increased. And the right to carry firearms has seen expansion to nearly every single state in the United States.

Is this increase in gun ownership a reason for the decline in violent crime in America? I'm not sure I can draw that conclusion (though a couple of studies - one by the Centers for Disease Control - found no correlation between violent crime and gun ownership), but certainly we can conclude that accusing gun owners of "terrorizing" communities is a bit foolish.
