By Iraqi security forces to boot.  He’s a big fish, too.  He was a key player in the chemical weapons attacks on Kurdish villagers, and following Saddam’s execution was named as the leader of the Baath party in Iraq.

A former top Hussein official, once the country’s vice president, has been captured in Iraq.

Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri was captured by Iraqi security forces and handed over to the US Army.

Al-Douri has been a fugitive since the downfall of the Hussein regime.

How a red-headed Baathist managed to hide out in Iraq for so long is beyond me, but good to know this particular monster is in custody.  That, on top of the success the Iraqi forces have had in Basra, points to a good deal of progress by the Iraqi government in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, in America, Democrats continue to insist that Iraq is nothing but a failure and that the citizens of the country would have been better off under Saddam Hussein.
