Last night my girl and I went to The Da Vinci Code over at the local theater.
My reaction? Not too bad.
One big problem with the film is that, if you haven't already read the book, you're going to have a hard time following what is going on. The movie skipped a lot of parts of the book that, to me at least, seem fairly necessary for plot advancement. If you're really interested in this story take the time to read the book before you see the movie. If you just see the movie you're going to end up sort of confused.
As for the movie itself, it was entertaining but forgettable. Nothing all that special. Were it not for all the religious types protesting and attempting to "debunk" the film it probably wouldn't be doing nearly as well at the box office as it is.
I still don't understand a lot of the anger about the movie. Sure the book publishers and movie producers assure us that the history in the story is all real, but these are the same type of folks who assured us that The Exorcist and The Amityville Horror were based on real events too. I think it is fair to say that novelists and movie screenwriters tend to take a lot of dramatic license with events they portray. If you're looking to a fiction novel or movie for your history you're going to be badly misled.
I think most people who have read this book or seen this movie get that.
