Is resurrecting one of the most memorable policies of the Jimmy Carter administration really something Democrats want to do as Barack “Windfall Profits Tax” Obama runs for Jimmy’s third term?
Record-high gas prices have triggered talk that it may be time to lower the speed limit on federal highways to 55 or 60 mph.
“I think that’s a great way to save fuel,” said U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler, D-Waynesville, N.C. “I think it would be the right thing to do.”
If anything this just demonstrates once again how liberals fail to grasp how markets work. American drivers don’t need a federally-mandated to help them conserve fuel. High gas prices trigger conservation without the need for government rule-making.
Don’t believe me? Consider that all over the country states are complaining about gas tax revenue lost because people are driving less. Higher prices lower demand.
It’s economics 101, though it’s not surprising that a liberal Democrat would fail to grasp this concept.
