I see the North Dakota Democrats are all fired up to get our state legislature to impose a massive price fix for labor on the state’s businesses, something that will no doubt result in more unemployment and increased prices for goods and services in the state. But what’s interesting is that while Democrats in North Dakota, and no doubt across the nation, are telling us all what a wonderful idea the minimum wage is the Democrats in the House of Representatives in Washington D.C. just voted for a minimum wage hike that effects everyone in the nation...except for some of Nancy Pelosi’s friends in the tuna industry in American Samoa.
ND Rep. Earl Pomeroy, obviously one of the foremost members of the ND Democrat Party, voted in favor of H.R. 4 which selectively raised the minimum wage in this country. I wonder if we could get Democrats in the ND state legislature to follow Pomeroy’s lead and support a minimum wage hike that exempts businesses who cozy up to certain key members of their party?
I wonder, for instance, if the state’s grocery stores could get an exemption from the minimum wage if they made a few key donations to ND House Minority Leader Merle Boucher?
Probably not, but the lesson from the actions of the national Democrats is clear. Businesses don’t like the minimum wage because it causes them to hire fewer employees or even take their business out of the country where there aren’t such draconian labor laws, and the Democrats are in agreement with that given their willingness to exempt businesses friendly to them from the minimum wage.
Given the actions of the national Democrats they know full well that the minimum wage is bad for business in America, and that it causes unemployment and overseas outsourcing, but they push for it anyway.
